APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday September 25, 2003 (MJD 52908) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Mike Harvanek Night: Atsuko Nitta, Pete Newman ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather delayed opening, then finished plate 1473, then imaging: oblique scan #4 completed in good conditions, and 82N (162 <= lambda <= -126), though some frames lost to intermittent clouds (see imaging details section). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: The secondary needed to be homed so that the mirror numbers could be obtained. No spectro collimation adjustments were necessary today. Night: Humidity and clouds kept us closed past twilight until 03:00Z when it quickly cleared. We decided to start with spectroscopy as there were still a few very small orographic clouds passing over. Guide stars on gotoField unless specified. Pete thinks the number of fiber apertures lost off chip r2 is more than before - see spectro section below for QA comments. Although during imaging we cannot claim to have watched every frame go past on the monitors, seeingRun showed all frames to have good images, so we think there were no instances of M2 oscillations tonight. Observing sequence: 03:11Z Plate 1473, cartridge 9. Done in one 900s exposure (plus an extra ~600 sec exposure when combined with data from MJD 52907. As the seeing was good and the clouds finally dissipated, we switched to imaging for the rest of the night. See imaging sections below for details. We ran out of things to do just before morning twilight. endNight is running as this log is being finalised - we plan on leaving it running, so day staff: please deal with gangs tapes!
