Two plates finished with one exposure on a third. The grade 2 N2 is down to 600 on the gauge, and will need swapping soon. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- During the checkout, Howard saw atypical numbers with respect to m2 (it was reading zero for M2 Trans D actuator). French had to re-program the mitutoyo guage on "Trans D." So, there are two sets of mirror numbers in this log, i.e., before and after the fix. Night: ------------------- We started with the imager mounted for the Sagittarius scan. There were a few problems getting started....Setting the rotator angle and keeping the boresight offset require additions to the tcc track command as stated in the proceedure. Here is a comparison of the command as per the proceedure, and the one we actually used (the az & alt reflect the values from the LST for this scan). If Jim agrees that this is the right thing to do, we should modify the proceedure. 01:33Z - We start a Sagittarius scan with run 4326. Focus loop converged at frame 25. At first it looked like the seeing was trending down, but then it got worse again. We stopped the drift after 100 frames. It was labeled "ignore". We also tried running David Schlegel's generic skippy, but it failed. The output is in the problems section. ----- 02:32Z - It's Apache Wheel time, starting with a rim scan, followed by spoke 30, then a hub, then spoke 75. 02:36Z Run 4327: 02:38Z - Frame 9 RA=327 deg, start of rim. We noticed faint structure in the IR camera, but the sigma was around 6, so technically, it was photometric. 03:56Z Frame 62 RA=93 deg, Alt=28.5 deg, we move to spoke 30. 04:00Z Frame 65, RA=30, dec=-25.0 deg. Start of spoke 30. 05:02Z Frame 108, RA=30, Dec 79.3 deg, move to hub. 05:05Z Frame 110, RA= 1.5 deg, dec 45.8 deg, start of hub. 06:07Z Frame 152 RA= 140 (approx) Dec= 30 (approx) Move to spoke 75 06:12Z Frame 156 RA= 75, Dec= -26, start of spoke 75 07:26Z Frame 207 Ra=75, Dec=82.5, end of spoke 75, past the pole. ----- 07:28Z Switch to spectroscopy as the Moon rises. 07:59Z Cartridge 4, plate 1592 - Stars on goToField. Note that the autoguider tried to centroid on a hot pixel on fiber 11. We did not try to generate a new guider dark frame to see if that fixed the problem, but rather just turned off the fiber, in the interest of time. Connie, if you want to look at the dark subtraction, a sample image is at /usrdevel/snedden/gimg0020.fits on 'host. On a subsequent exposure, the autoguider started guiding on a hot pixel in fiber 7. At that point, we went back to the old guider. It appears that the hot pixel problem occurs when the seeing is poor...not too surprising. This plate was declared done with a total exposure of 5700 s. 10:24Z Cartridge 2, plate 1429. GSOGTF. Finished the plate with a total exposure time of 2840 s. 12:00Z Cartridge 1, plate 1304. No GSOGTF. We had an "azimuth too large to correct" error that was probably the cause. An FK5 star was found with spiralPattern, without much trouble.
