APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday April 7, 2004 (MJD 53103) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Dan Long Atsuko Nitta Kleinman John Barentine Support:Russel Owen Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- All off-sky tasks were completed. Weather prevented accomplishing any on-sky tasks. A new engCam instrument block (correct, this time...) was obtained. No new iop version this run...? Maybe the first and last time ever! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: The afternoon checkout was mostly uneventful, but I did need to replace the FF lamp in the PT. The spectro focus was not checked because the engCam was mounted. Night: TPM v2_41_0 ------------------ The new TPM archiver is running on and therefore commish now has www page identical the the host one to access archived data. Since we currently have data from 53000 until 53096 still on host, these needs to be transferred to commish so that we can use the www interface on commish to get all the data we have spinning on site. We will start transferring the data from host to commish before we go to bed (we don't want to load the network during the night). We have used the stripTool from commish. It uses time in relative-time. The new archiver seems to be running fine. We also tried the new stripTool on commish. It gives you error messages as below, but works ok. We sent email to Peregrine about couple changes we would like: (1) It will be nice to add a documentation on how to start a stripTool there. (2) The commish stripTool only give me the time in relative time from current time even though the same configuration file gives me local time on host's stripTool. Is there way to choose the x-axis ? Or we stuck with relative time on commish? Unfortunately, I did not succeed in plotting anything. I could get ascii spreadsheet data but no plots. The error I get when I try plotting is: Archive Error : ../GNUPlotExporter.cpp (134): Write Error (/local/ups/prd/tpm/tpm_v2_41_0/ChanArch/tpmwww/Tests/cgi/tmp/0408121019_192.41. 211.58) And this had a link from "data that was suppose to be plotted". But when I clicked, though, it took me to a "Forbidden" page: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /tpm/Tests/cgi/tmp/0408115415_192.41.211.58 on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. It looks like something is not set right for plotting. Please fix all this so that we can plot the variable of interest which is what I have used the archiver www interface for in the past. PR 5778 (Plate Database) ------------------------ Worked as advertised. The PR has been closed. Pointing Model ------------------ There are some thick clouds around us, but not over our head. We keep our eye on the clouds and water as we start on the pointing model data taking. Dan noted while checking the centering of the engCam that bore site offset is issued when track command is issued with pterr while it is not when it is a simple track command. This bore site offset is about 7.8" in x-direction which nearly translates to and RA offset. We did not understand why this bore site offset was issued and since we did not think we want any boresite offfst when we are collecting the pointing model data, we made a call to Russel Owen to ensure that this is expected and correct behavior. Russel pointed out that the above indicate a problem in the instBlock. Since we did not have a working software on the mountain to calculate the correct instBlock, it seems that the modifications made to incorporate the 180deg shift in rotator was not done right. We retook the data to create a new instBlock. 03:15Z Lots of clouds started to move in. CLoomis installed IGOR on the guiderMac so that we can run the program to generate the numbers needed for the instBlock. But then we had difficulty getting the guiderMac to see the file Dan created for the instBlock. We put the file on /data/spectro/guider on host since we know that the guiderMac knows of this directory, but this did not work. After a call to Craig, we found out that we can transfer the file from dandru (a mac) to the guiderMac. So we did so. But when we tried to have IGOR read the transferred files, it could not open it. So Dan ended up typing the numbers again in guiderMac. 04:30Z Stopped gathering data with the PT. Clouds. The result of feeding the instrument block data to Igor and updating the instrument block according was an even larger boresight offset when issuing a track /pterr. At that point Dan called Russell for help. Russell went through the inst data fit procedure from home and found that one of the rot_inst_xy values from IGOR differed from the new block by a factor of 10. It was a typo entering the data into the block. Thanks to Russell for his help and apologies for disturbing him for a simple typo. With the typo fixed, track/pterr gave no boresight offset so the instrument block is now correct. 05:15Z Hauled the enclosure over the 2.5m due to threatening clouds and returns on radar within a few miles. The E and W garage doors were left fully open to help ventilation. Around 05:10Z, altitude slipped while the telescope was commanded to stow position. However, we don't see evidence for the slip in Watcher. 06:15Z The rain sensor triggered. We rolled the garage doors down far enough to protect the telescope and shut down the PT. The rain was very brief. The next several hours saw alternating clear spells with fairly thick waves of clouds. 10:55Z Called it a night, with too little usable time left. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4538 22:01Z 22:16Z 100 O -124.02 -120.20 39 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 26002, plate -9999 ------- 22:03 26002 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26003, plate -9999 ------- 22:29 26003 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26004, plate -9999 ------- 01:07 26004 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:54Z 44 30 0 315 (NW) 255 - 22:26Z 47 34 9 293 (WNW) 261 - 22:58Z 51 34 6 273 (W) 240 - 23:31Z 48 29 3 292 (WNW) 214 - 00:03Z 48 29 10 290 (WNW) 215 - 00:39Z 47 31 6 266 (W) 272 - 01:11Z 45 29 6 270 (W) 252 - 01:44Z 41 30 5 268 (W) 318 - 01:48Z 40 30 5 263 (W) 269 - 02:20Z 42 27 5 258 (WSW) 313 - 02:52Z 42 28 7 235 (SW) 341 - 03:24Z 41 28 12 183 (S) 310 - 03:56Z 41 30 8 205 (SSW) 403 - 04:29Z 41 30 9 187 (S) 399 - 05:05Z 41 29 9 192 (SSW) 443 - 05:37Z 41 29 11 205 (SSW) 431 - 06:09Z 40 29 11 224 (SW) 475 - 06:42Z 40 30 7 188 (S) 531 - 07:14Z 40 29 9 216 (SW) 527 - 07:46Z 41 27 7 221 (SW) 490 - 08:18Z 40 28 3 235 (SW) 519 - 08:50Z 40 29 7 209 (SSW) 611 - 09:27Z 39 28 6 208 (SSW) 546 - 09:59Z 40 29 7 217 (SW) 556 - 10:31Z 38 30 9 191 (S) 569 - 11:04Z 38 30 12 187 (S) 623 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:25Z Doors cracked, louvers opened, fans on. 01:35Z Enclosure off 05:15Z Enclosure on, both garage doors left fully open Telescope parked at 121, 30, 00 LN2 connected and turned on Spectro 95lbs 23 psi Imager 147lbs 21psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_135_0 Watcher: v2_29_0 MCP: v5_25_0 TPM: tpm_v2_41_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: TCC 2.7.2 November 11 2003 sdssProcedures: v1_89 SoS: v4_10_7 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.5440 0.5420 Axial B 0.6490 0.6480 Axial C 1.0920 1.0940 Trans D -8.4390 -8.4380 Lateral E 10.8839 10.8966 Lateral F 10.8458 10.8585 GALILS Commanded: 4600. -2850. 850. -9250. 18400. 17850.
