APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday April 13, 2004 (MJD 53109) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Steph Snedden Scot Kleinman Visitors: Atsuko Nitta Jurek Krzesinski Craig Loomis E. Bunny ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We wheeled and dealed all night long. Aces low, 5 card hold'em. Steph won with a full house: two rims, three spokes, hub high. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing: While I was doing an "initNight -tapeRelabel," Watcher indicated that two tape drives needed to be cleaned, vis., id4-1 and 1d6-2. I cleaned the drives and replaced the tapes, but they were still not being read properly. So, I rebooted photo 2, which solved the problem. FYI, I did clean all the drives at the start of the dark-run. Spectro focus was checked and found to be within spec. I put the coll_motor numbers in the problem section. -------- Night: During setup: 1) we noticed the offset pointer bug on the MCP laptop was with us again (this is when the action point is actually OFF the visible pointer) and 2) twice we had to do two axis inits to get the telescope viable again after a stop button. The altitude was the problem each time. (This repeated at the end of the night. Every time Scot axis inited after a stop button, he needed 2 axis inits; Steph got away with only one at least once.) While trying a pre-twilight imager bias, we got DA error messages on the IOP command line: Waiting for command response from id4 (crate 2, ICC 0), data server (client 1). Sigh. See problems. 03:05Z: Twilight, but we go ahead and continue our bias- it's almost done - late start due to the DA problems. 03:07Z: We started a drift at 24N, lambda=-68 (science goal is lambda=-63) After Steph's first scanStripe, she noticed she did not get the offset borseight command sent. In her IOP window, she noticed she did NOT get the usual echoing of the tccPut track command. Above that also was a tccClose and restart, so the TCC definitely did timeout again. The second scanStripe behaved. 03:17Z We are in focus from the start. Skippy ran and reported an initial nuErr of -0.2! :> 03:39Z: some structure visible on the cloud camera, although reading is <7 and going down. SoK says seeing bad starting ~ Frame 60 Longitude -59.6. We stuck it out a while, but things never quite stabilized, so we decided to kick it up with the 'Wheel. 04:22Z: We give up on this run (will save it, but not much useful) and off to apacheWheel - starting with the rim, of course. We start with a track command: track 111,0.0 fk5 /scanvelocity=(0.0275,0). 04:36Z: goDrift started, track command repeated: done by frame: 9. Run number 4556. 05:29Z: streaks in the monitors at RA=198., approximately frame 44. We re-slewed back to ra=180. The telescope halted due to an az position of 390; we apparently do need an azwrap, at least occasionally for the rims scans, too. Slew done by frame 48, RA=182. Oops- got the azwrap wrong- did it again with negative azwrap and started again by frame=52, ra=181. 06:12Z: frame 74 end of rim and on to spoke 180: track 180,-25 fk5 /azWrap=positive /scanvelocity=(0,0.0275) Second track ended frame 77. We'll make this a short spoke. ~06:35Z - slight blip in the cloud camera- looks like it briefly went up to 8, maybe. 07:14Z, Frame 117 short spoke complete and start slew to spoke 195. 07:17Z, frame 119 - start of long spoke 195. 08:28Z Frame 167 - last of long spoke 195 before hub slew, starting RA=170. first full good frame of hub is 170 09:16Z frame 200 - last frame of hub - off to spoke 225 09:20Z slews complete for spoke 225- first full good frame is 203 10:18Z frame 242 end of short spoke - onto rim scan at RA=198.5. 10:25Z frame 248 first good full frame of rim. 11:16Z frame 283 - twilight a minute or so ago, but we forge on in hopes of finishing the full rim; RA~285. 11:32Z frame 294 - we stopped the run due to increasing sunlight: ra~313. We used the new increment runNumber prescription and upped the run number by 7 then started a binned bias while we went to close up shop. (The run number incrementing worked.) Once the telescope was put to bed, we turned off the lights and took a binned bias. Binned bias and endNight running as this is sent out. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4553 23:23Z 23:38Z 100 O -97.58 -93.71 40 ignore 4554 02:52Z 03:06Z 100 O -45.13 -41.53 38 bias 4555 03:13Z 04:27Z 24 N -67.43 -49.01 130 science 4556 04:35Z 11:35Z 100 O -19.34 85.88 302 calibration ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4555 10 4 162 -12.900 0.606 -0.200 0.256 -0.00279 243 55 4555 10 4 162 -12.900 0.606 -0.200 0.256 -0.00279 243 55 4555 24 4 131 -13.800 0.109 0.300 0.160 -0.00236 244 56 4555 76 4 82 -13.500 0.118 1.000 0.112 -0.00170 251 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4555 33 1 56 293 63 -0.519 0.135 0.849 0.197 -0.00285 4555 33 1 56 293 59 -0.719 0.148 0.863 0.128 -0.00290 4555 33 1 56 293 73 -0.751 0.166 0.914 0.193 -0.00307 4555 33 1 56 293 54 -0.821 0.126 1.091 0.159 -0.00367 4555 33 1 56 293 56 -1.050 0.116 0.878 0.224 -0.00295 4555 52 1 57 291 44 -0.649 0.095 1.177 0.119 -0.00396 4555 52 1 57 291 37 -0.793 0.153 1.313 0.130 -0.00441 4555 52 1 57 291 47 -0.764 0.167 1.292 0.143 -0.00434 4555 52 1 57 291 48 -0.909 0.141 1.386 0.142 -0.00466 4555 52 1 57 291 48 -0.989 0.157 1.262 0.154 -0.00424 4555 86 1 58 286 25 0.254 0.164 1.078 0.149 -0.00363 4555 86 1 58 286 23 0.164 0.128 1.033 0.182 -0.00347 4555 86 1 58 286 23 0.172 0.185 1.129 0.192 -0.00380 4555 86 1 58 286 21 -0.012 0.228 1.117 0.196 -0.00376 4555 86 1 58 286 27 0.041 0.210 1.190 0.272 -0.00400 4555 105 1 58 284 27 -0.998 0.216 1.339 0.224 -0.00450 4555 105 1 58 284 23 -1.144 0.251 1.340 0.255 -0.00451 4555 105 1 58 284 27 -1.004 0.273 1.149 0.228 -0.00386 4555 105 1 58 284 25 -1.167 0.247 0.999 0.119 -0.00336 4555 105 1 58 284 23 -1.102 0.243 1.259 0.362 -0.00423 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): n UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 26048, plate -9999 ------- 22:53 26048 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26049, plate 1601 ------- 23:30 26049 10.0 flat 23:33 26050 2.0 arc ----- sequence 26051, plate -9999 ------- 23:44 26051 0.0 bias ----- sequence 26052, plate 1601 ------- 23:49 26052 2.1 arc 23:52 26053 2.1 arc ----- sequence 26054, plate -9999 ------- 01:20 26054 0.0 bias 01:30 26055 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:04Z imager 286.12 0.0000 57.75 0.0000 1.12 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 23:46Z 3 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 29.9 9.0 17 211 04:05Z imager 1.00000 0 -165 -58 286 57.8 3.9 14 188 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:28Z 45 28 11 225 (SW) 508 - 23:00Z 49 30 12 187 (S) 550 - 23:32Z 46 26 10 239 (WSW) 604 - 00:04Z 47 28 11 225 (SW) 585 - 00:37Z 45 23 9 183 (S) 622 - 01:05Z 42 23 8 193 (SSW) 615 - 01:37Z 40 21 11 205 (SSW) 614 - 02:10Z 39 23 13 185 (S) 645 - 02:42Z 39 24 15 181 (S) 624 - 03:14Z 39 25 17 182 (S) 627 - 03:47Z 39 27 16 176 (S) 640 - 04:19Z 39 25 15 170 (S) 710 - 04:51Z 39 23 19 181 (S) 676 - 05:23Z 38 23 16 179 (S) 680 - 06:04Z 38 21 16 180 (S) 663 - 06:36Z 38 21 13 177 (S) 630 - 07:08Z 38 23 11 184 (S) 660 - 07:41Z 38 23 11 180 (S) 658 - 08:17Z 38 23 12 180 (S) 607 - 08:49Z 37 24 16 179 (S) 607 - 09:21Z 37 23 11 181 (S) 612 - 09:54Z 37 23 12 180 (S) 621 - 10:26Z 39 15 12 200 (SSW) 545 - 10:58Z 39 13 10 205 (SSW) 582 - 11:30Z 38 11 10 195 (SSW) 567 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:23Z doors cracked, louvers opened, fans on.
