APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday April 20, 2004 (MJD 53116) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Steph Snedden Jurek Krzesinski Visitors: Dover Sherborn Regional High School students and teacher (Josh Bridger), Abaetern Academy Virtual School director (Ivy Merriot). ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spectroscopy night: Scattered light warnings on cart 8 (plt 1618). 6 plates done: 1618, 1449, 1457, 1696, 1383,1386. We've got a problem with grabInst (we think) 10 minut observing time lost due to the problem (see the log). sp1 (Wsigma on plates 1457, 1696 b1) went yellow while temperature change was only ~1 C, than it went back in spec on plate 1386 at the end of the night. We don't think bad sp1 behaviour is temperature related (sp1 blue was recollimatedi at the beginning of the night). PR 5887 was edited and resent. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing ------- Spectro focus was checked and adjusted; see prolbems section for details. Per the request in last night's log, M2 was homed during the afternoon checkout; however, the procedure had to be done twice. The PROCESS ENABLE COLLIMATE command did not work the first time for some reason. The spectro files were not being transfered to SoS because the cron job had died. It was restarted, and the files transfered to SoS. Night ------- 01:46Z At the beginning of the night we started with cart 8 plt 1618. Soon we've got a sop session problem. Something failed (maybe grabInst) without an error message. So Steph issued another grabInst and got the follwing error: IOP running as Backup Relay Server requestListen: listening 1 2004-04-21 02:47:08Z 9 sp2 camcheck 2004-04-21 02:47:08Z 9 sp2 SHOWREADVOLTS sp2: list element in quotes followed by ":" instead of space invoked from within "camHandler" invoked from within "if {([exposureRemaining -quiet] == 0 && [statusGet daqBusy] ==0)} { # echo "Idle camHandler" camHandler return }" (procedure "camHandler_maybe" line 12) invoked from within "camHandler_maybe 60" ("eval" body line 1) invoked from within "eval $procname $args" camHandler_maybe is scheduled, further errors sent to murmur 2004-04-21 02:47:14Z: registered (addr8) listener sdsshost:observer:1805 SOPGUI: grabInstruments -handlers 600 That sop session got frozen. Steph had to restart it (10 minutes lost). 03:00Z sop session restored. Doing precalib. Fk5 used to find the guide stars. On the second exposure SDB (Stupid Dummy Bag) clouds arrived and Steph had to increase integration time. Plate done. 05:56Z cart 1 plt 1457 mounted. Looks like it's been photometric since 7:30, but we've seen some thin clouds crossing through cloud camera images around 8:45. There is still some cloudy stuff north of us. So we decided to stay with spectroscopy. Indeed 09:15Z more thin clouds appeard. sdR-r1-00026234.fit: WARNING: Max sky-residual chi2 = 96.1703 at 8887.22 Ang (ignoring 5577) Nothing obvious at aposkyplot.
