APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday May 11, 2004 (MJD 53137) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Mike Harvanek Night: John Barentine Pete Newman Visitors: Liz Manqual, Bob Kanegis (Storytellers and friends of French) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Two spectro plates finished (1620, 1726) plus imaging on strip 23S mostly in good seeing from lambda = -20 to lambda = +31. The gangs tapes from endNight are still in the drives for the day crew to deal with, please. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation adjusted while rotator at 45 degrees mount. See problems section for details. Night: ------ Some thin high clouds around at sunset, so we start with spectroscopy. Observing sequence: Guide stars found on gotoField unless noted. 02:33Z Plate 1620, cartridge 3. Main survey. Done in 3 exposures, 2400s. 04:07Z Seeing good and clouds absent, so we switch to imaging. See imaging details log below for details. 08:54Z Moonrise, so we switch back to spectroscopy. 09:24Z Plate 1726, cartridge 7. Main survey. Done in 3 exposures, 2700s, when combined with data from MJD 53135. Guide stars just on the edge of the fibers with cleared offsets, but far from focus on acquisition. Finsihed after 18deg twilight. endNight is running as this log is being sent. We have dealt with the imager tapes, but would the day crew please deal with the gangs tapes that are still being written. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4621 23:46Z 00:01Z 100 O -64.26 -60.35 40 ignore 4622 04:18Z 04:35Z 100 O 4.03 8.19 42 bias 4623 04:37Z 08:55Z 23 S -24.95 39.62 444 science 4624 08:56Z 09:06Z 23 S 40.00 42.55 30 engineering Donuts ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- Run 4622, on-telescope bias, t-bars unlatched. ============================================================ Run 4623, 23 S, -20.4 <= lambda <= +31.9 Seeing quality as reported by seeingRun.
