APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday November 8, 2004 (MJD 53318) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington John Barentine Mike Harvanek (swing) Visitor: Douglas Tucker (FNAL) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Wd declared one plate done (1868) and got some signal on another (1962). We had problems with DIMM; see log. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation adjusted. Details in the Problems section. Windscreen touch during checkout: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2004-11-08 23:06:38Z sdssmcp): 2004-11-08 23:06:54Z) No other problems to report. Night: ------ 01:04Z cart 08, plate 1962 (seguefaint102). Guide stars on go_to_Field. While doing cals, we got the following message: Error: GMAKEHIST: Flat exposure is too faint. Counts in fibers must be > 500 /p/astroda/v14_47/bin/dscRun[429]: 35781 Bus error(coredump) And, we could not get the guider to work. We talked with Craig and discovered that the Guider Mac was unplugged. We recovered with Craig's help, i.e., plugged in the Guider Mac, restarted the software, set inst, and so on. We completed a couple of exposures before clouds became a problem at 02:35Z. So we waited for awhile, did a postCal, and closed at 03:22Z. DIMM had problems early in the night. On Monx3, we were unable to open a VNC session because it wanted a pass-phrase. We had never seen that request before, and we could not locate the pass-phrase on the white board. And at the telescope's VNC session, the program had terminated. 09:33Z Enclosure off. 09:43Z Cart 01, plate 1868 (chunk93). We had a "correction for altitude -1176 is too large" when going to field. After forcing a fiducial, we had to use an Fk5 to find the field. For some reason, John's Watcher did not complain about the correction too large, so we lost several minutes of science time doing a spiralPattern. We completed two exposures on this plate before clouds became a problem. At 11:35Z, the sky began to clear again, so we started another exposure. This plate was declared done after four exposures. We had a whopping fiber on the last exposure. See Problems Section for misc Watcher messages. endNight finished and was happy. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4945 22:42Z 23:17Z 100 O 98.20 107.06 72 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29256, plate -9999 ------- 22:36 29256 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29257, plate 1962 ------- 23:13 29257 10.0 flat collimation 23:15 29258 2.0 arc collimation 23:18 29259 2.1 arc collimation 23:21 29260 2.1 arc collimation 23:32 29261 2.1 arc collimation 23:34 29262 2.1 arc collimation ----- sequence 29263, plate -9999 ------- 00:00 29263 0.0 bias 01:26 29264 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29265, plate 1962 ------- 01:41 29265 10.0 flat 01:43 29266 2.0 arc 02:03 29267 900.1 target 02:26 29268 1200.1 target 02:48 29269 553.7 target 03:07 29270 10.0 flat 03:10 29271 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29272, plate 1868 ------- 10:21 29272 10.0 flat 10:23 29273 2.0 arc 10:42 29274 900.1 target 11:12 29275 1091.9 target 11:54 29276 1200.1 target 12:22 29277 1500.1 target 12:25 29278 10.0 flat 12:28 29279 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:37Z 8 1962 -11.97 -0.0012 68.18 0.0017 169.64 0.0112 1.000180 10:32Z 1 1868 149.31 0.0003 69.81 0.0037 -41.16 -0.0031 1.000350 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL 8093 Stays: JL 8094 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:38Z 8 1962 1.00018 -1776 -267 70 -12 68.2 9.1 22 135 gdr 1.6 10:32Z 1 1868 1.00035 -3455 -1679 50 149 69.8 6.7 21 192 gdr 1.4 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:19Z 52 18 1 248 (WSW) 689 - 22:49Z 50 18 16 162 (SSE) 859 - 23:20Z 50 19 19 127 (SE) 644 - partly cloudy 23:53Z 49 18 19 125 (SE) 466 - partly cloudy 00:26Z 49 17 22 128 (SE) 453 - 00:53Z 49 16 19 141 (SE) 424 - 01:25Z 48 14 22 144 (SE) 428 - cloudy 01:56Z 48 11 22 128 (SE) 380 - 02:26Z 47 11 23 125 (SE) 368 - 02:58Z 47 13 24 137 (SE) 415 - cloudy 03:30Z 47 21 24 126 (SE) 448 - 04:02Z 47 23 22 131 (SE) 494 - 04:35Z 47 21 20 147 (SSE) 478 - 05:07Z 46 21 22 143 (SE) 497 - cloudy 05:39Z 46 21 20 149 (SSE) 471 - 06:12Z 45 23 21 144 (SE) 534 - 06:44Z 46 22 20 155 (SSE) 589 - cloudy 07:16Z 46 23 19 156 (SSE) 593 - 07:48Z 46 24 18 151 (SSE) 643 - 08:20Z 45 26 20 145 (SE) 695 - cloudy 08:53Z 46 25 21 180 (S) 839 - 09:25Z 46 26 21 191 (S) 770 - 09:57Z 44 25 19 180 (S) 819 - clear 10:28Z 44 26 24 195 (SSW) 869 - 11:01Z 42 26 19 200 (SSW) 832 - 11:33Z 43 26 15 204 (SSW) 934 - partly cloudy 12:06Z 43 29 15 211 (SSW) 806 - 12:39Z 42 30 14 201 (SSW) 773 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:45Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 00:30Z Enclosure off. 03:22Z Enclosure on. 09:32Z Enclosure off 12:45Z Enclosure on.
