APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday November 11, 2004 (MJD 53321) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Nitta Howard Brewington Mike Harvanek (swing) SN day shift: Douglas Tucker (FNAL) Visitor: Matt, Helen, Sakura, Kiki, Nicki Schlegel ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- o Plate 1913 was called done. The S/N^2.48.6 achived before the plate expired. Jen --- is this ok? o 1962, 1910, 1927 (SDSS) done. o Goodsignal on 1551, no data on 2046, 1925. o Three weather pies today! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectro collimation was adjusted. See the Problems section for details. Windscreen touches during checkout and opening: altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2004-11-11 23:23:57Z sdssmcp): 2004-11-11 23:24:04Z) and altitude (Windscreen touched in altitude: UP (2004-11-12 00:09:47Z sdssmcp): 2004-11-12 00:09:51Z) Nothing else to report. Night: ------ High cirrus. We start with spectro. Cart 8 Plate 1962 (SEGUE faint) ==================== Stars on gotoField! Yeahh! We used last night's offset. Seeing is good showing soe fibers with 0.98" FWHM. Started our science exposure 15min before twilight is over. With two exposures combined with previous exposures we finished this plate. Fiber 11 disabled because it was guigin on a hot pixel. The postCalib recommendation came in too late. Cart 7 Plate 1910 (SEGUE) ============================ guideStarsOngotoField. Fiber 1, 5 disbabled. These also seemed to be guiding on hot pixels. Fiber 8 as no guide stars (as expected). Many whopping fibers reported on this plate. Cart 2 Plate 1913 (SEGUE faint) ================================= Atsuko lost her mind. She put cart 1 on instead of cart2! She had to run back and get cart2. We lost 9min for this extra cartridge change. :( Guide stars on gotoField. THis plate is SEGUE faint. 1.3"seeing. Combined with the previous exposures, we got total of >48.6 before the plate expired. We are going to call this done. postCalib done. While going to instChange, we got too large to correct fiducial crossings in alt and rot but both were followed by reasonable corrections. Cart 5 Plate 1551 (lowz) ======================= Guide stars on gotoField. Seeing is slightly worse (2.1") now and more clouds are coming in too. Max accl error on rotator came up while we were taking the first science exposure. The exact watcher error message is in the PROBLEM section. During the 4th science exposure, the clouds started thicken and efficiency started to drop. :( We were not able to finish this plate. We did a postCalib as recommended by SoS. Cart 9 Plate 2046 ===================== We got too large to correct rotator error while gotofield, but it was followed by a valid correction so no problem. We used fk5 star which was in fiber 10. Thhe clouds are thickening which we think is why we did not see the guide stars on gotoField. 08:17Z Clouds thickened enough that we cann no longer see guide stars. 08:24Z Resuming science. This exposure did not make the s/n^2 of 2. :( The second exposure takein clouds also did not make the required min. s/n.Both of these exposures are declared bad. The plate expired, so we put a new plate on. cart 3 Plate 1927 (SDSS) =================== We had to fk5. Again we think this was due to clouds. The seeing is now about 2.5". With worse seeing and clouds, our efficiency is not very good either (~30%). 1st exposure (1500s) did make the min. s/n. :) Yeah! This plate was already half way done by previous exposures. So additional 2x1800s exposures finished it. cart 4 Plate 1925 (SDSS) ================== guideStarsOngotoField. The efficiency was less than 20%. We wait until it improves. We are fighting clouds. Rotator max accl. error occurred again while tracking. The error message is in the PROBLEM section. 30 min before twilight, we started a 30min exposure. The efficiency is around 30%. We have nothing to loose in trying... The s/2^2 <2. Oh well. exposure 29375 was makred bad on SoS after endNight started but before it finished. I do not know if the information made it to the copy of the file that is copied over to FNAL. 12:15Z Closed. 12:40Z endNight rejoinced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4950 23:02Z 23:29Z 100 O 106.09 112.96 60 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29325, plate -9999 ------- 22:53 29325 0.0 bias 23:20 29326 0.0 bias 23:23 29327 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29327, plate 1927 ------- 23:31 29328 10.0 flat collimation 23:34 29329 2.0 arc collimation 23:39 29330 2.1 arc collimation 23:41 29331 2.1 arc collimation 23:50 29332 2.1 arc collimation 23:53 29333 2.1 arc collimation ----- sequence 29334, plate -9999 ------- 00:01 29334 0.0 bias 00:34 29335 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29336, plate 1962 ------- 01:01 29336 10.0 flat 01:04 29337 2.0 arc 01:35 29338 1200.1 target 01:57 29339 1200.1 target ----- sequence 29340, plate 1910 ------- 02:16 29340 10.0 flat 02:18 29341 2.0 arc 02:34 29342 720.1 target 03:01 29343 1440.1 target 03:23 29344 1100.1 target ----- sequence 29345, plate 1913 ------- 03:45 29345 10.0 flat 03:47 29346 2.0 arc 04:11 29347 1200.1 target 04:34 29348 1200.1 target 04:57 29349 1200.1 target 05:19 29350 1200.1 target 05:22 29351 10.0 flat 05:25 29352 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29353, plate 1551 ------- 05:36 29353 10.0 flat 05:39 29354 2.0 arc 06:03 29355 1200.1 target 06:26 29356 1200.1 target 06:49 29357 1200.1 target 07:12 29358 1200.1 target 07:39 29359 1500.1 target 07:42 29360 10.0 flat 07:45 29361 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29362, plate 2046 ------- 08:04 29362 10.0 flat 08:06 29363 2.0 arc 08:35 29364 1061.4 target BAD 08:57 29365 1200.1 target BAD ----- sequence 29366, plate 1927 ------- 09:19 29366 10.0 flat 09:22 29367 2.0 arc 09:53 29368 1500.1 target 10:30 29369 1800.1 target 11:04 29370 1800.1 target 11:07 29371 10.0 flat 11:10 29372 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29373, plate 1925 ------- 11:28 29373 10.0 flat 11:30 29374 2.0 arc 12:07 29375 1800.1 target BAD ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:29Z 8 1962 -14.07 0.0005 68.00 -0.0226 167.85 0.0062 1.000140 02:22Z 7 1910 4.97 -0.0025 47.73 -0.0229 184.12 -0.0105 1.000030 04:59Z 2 1913 -20.79 -0.0013 44.99 -0.0232 162.28 0.0046 0.999910 05:54Z 5 1551 -22.93 -0.0019 55.10 -0.0242 160.76 -0.0238 0.999910 08:10Z 9 2046 278.39 0.0019 56.47 -0.0224 115.68 0.0045 1.000240 09:28Z 3 1927 80.91 -0.0009 54.57 -0.0216 242.98 0.0047 1.000240 11:32Z 4 1925 17.32 -0.0064 76.86 -0.0225 195.41 0.0423 1.000070 11:34Z 4 1925 15.92 -0.0064 76.94 -0.0225 194.16 0.0423 1.000070 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8112 Stays: JL8113 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:29Z 8 1962 1.00014 -1383 115 125 -14 68.0 2.3 7 310 gdr 1.2 02:22Z 7 1910 1.00003 -296 1068 125 5 47.7 2.1 2 260 gdr 1.3 04:59Z 2 1913 0.99991 889 2033 100 -21 45.0 1.7 11 181 gdr 1.3 05:55Z 5 1551 0.99991 889 2026 125 -23 55.1 0.1 10 178 gdr 2.1 08:10Z 9 2046 1.00024 -2369 -675 125 278 56.5 0.7 13 176 gdr 1.6 09:28Z 3 1927 1.00024 -2369 -720 75 81 54.6 0.5 19 139 gdr 2.5 11:33Z 4 1925 1.00007 -691 599 50 17 76.9 0.6 16 145 gdr 2.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:44Z 45 28 4 264 (W) 286 -
