APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 17, 2004 (MJD 53357) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Atsuko Nitta John Barentine ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Finished one SEGUE faint plate (1903) and four survey plates (2081, 1934, 1954 and 1749), and accumulated additional signal on Tremonti plate 1181. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Checkout went smoothly. Spectrographs did not need refocusing. Night: ------ Clear skies, low humidity and light winds at sunset when we opened. Conditions were photometric until around 04:00Z when clouds started moving in from the north. The sky was photometric on-and-off until we closed for the night, but not long enough for us to switch to imaging, so we did plates. 00:50Z Loaded Cart 2, Plate 1903 (seguefaint98). Should only need one more exposure to finish this plate. Stars on gotoField. The first exposure of 900 s gave very low (S/N)^2, so we did two more 1500 s exposures to finish the plate. 02:40Z Loaded Cart 7, Plate 1181 (tremonti55). Stars on gotoField. We aborted the first exposure about 100 s in thinking that we did not have the setup for the field correct, then started a new exposure when we were happy with the pointing. Clouds started moving in around 04:00Z. We paused during the cycle of integrations on this plate at 04:15Z in hopes efficiency would come up. The exposure at pointing 3 was 1800 s because of clouds. Finished pointings number 2, 3 and 4 on this plate with two exposures on the fourth pointing as the plate expired for the night. We also did the postCalib recommended by SoS. 06:45Z Loaded Cart 6, Plate 2081 (tile 1395, chunk99). No stars on gotoField but we found an FK5 star. Finished the plate in three exposures of 900 s, 900 s and 600 s, respectively. 08:00Z Loaded Cart 4, Plate 1934 (tile 1384, chunk99). Stars on gotoField. Finished the plate with three exposures of 700 s, 900 s and 900 s, respectively. 09:10Z Loaded Cart 1, Plate 1954 (tile 1392, chunk99). Stars on gotoField. Finished the plate in three exposures of 900 s, 900 s, 600 s. 10:15Z Loaded Cart 5, Plate 1749 (tile 1254, chunk90). This plate already has a (S/N)^2 of 8.1 on it before we begin. Stars on gotoField. Finished the plate in three exposures of 1200 s each. As we have run out of plates and the sky is decidedly non-photometric we finished early and closed up at 11:35Z. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): yes QA Procedures Done (y/n): yes UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 29906, plate -9999 ------- 23:40 29906 0.0 bias 00:13 29907 0.0 bias ----- sequence 29908, plate 1903 ------- 6.1 4.9 7.3 6.7 DONE (with 01:06 29908 10.0 flat earlier signal) 01:08 29909 2.0 arc 01:29 29910 900.1 target 01:58 29911 1500.1 target 02:25 29912 1500.1 target 02:29 29913 10.0 flat 02:31 29914 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29915, plate 1181 ------- 02:51 29915 10.0 flat 02:54 29916 2.0 arc 03:25 29917 1200.1 target 03:49 29918 1200.1 target 04:11 29919 1200.1 target 04:53 29920 1800.1 target 05:16 29921 1200.1 target 05:39 29922 1200.1 target 06:09 29923 1200.1 target 06:31 29924 1200.1 target 06:34 29925 10.0 flat 06:37 29926 2.0 arc ----- sequence 29927, plate 2081 ------- 17.5 20.0 21.2 19.7 DONE 06:54 29927 10.0 flat 06:57 29928 2.0 arc 07:18 29929 900.1 target 07:37 29930 900.1 target 07:49 29931 600.1 target ----- sequence 29932, plate 1934 ------- 18.3 16.0 20.4 22.3 DONE 08:04 29932 10.0 flat 08:07 29933 2.0 arc 08:24 29934 700.1 target 08:42 29935 900.1 target 09:00 29936 900.1 target ----- sequence 29937, plate 1954 ------- 18.6 16.9 22.0 22.1 DONE 09:15 29937 10.0 flat 09:17 29938 2.0 arc 09:36 29939 900.1 target 09:54 29940 900.1 target 10:07 29941 600.1 target ----- sequence 29942, plate 1749 ------- 21.3 22.2 21.0 19.9 DONE 10:18 29942 10.0 flat 10:21 29943 2.0 arc 10:46 29944 1200.1 target 11:09 29945 1200.1 target 11:32 29946 1200.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:19Z 2 1903 -9.10 -0.0004 56.91 -0.0003 172.27 0.0197 0.999950 07:04Z 6 2081 71.30 0.0013 55.59 0.0036 236.35 -0.0091 1.000180 08:13Z 4 1934 88.65 0.0007 63.74 0.0030 252.92 0.0095 1.000150 09:33Z 1 1954 105.23 0.0032 65.63 0.0022 -91.64 0.0029 1.000170 10:41Z 5 1749 48.49 0.0000 63.71 0.0027 220.32 0.0036 1.000170 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8208 Stays: JL8209 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:19Z unknown 0.99995 494 1719 150 -9 56.9 -1.3 10 18 -- 2.0 07:04Z 6 2081 1.00018 -1778 -157 150 71 55.6 -0.6 14 46 -- 2.0 08:26Z 4 1934 1.00011 -1086 289 50 87 66.5 0.8 11 80 -- 1.4 09:33Z 1 1954 1.00017 -1679 -200 50 105 65.7 0.8 13 84 -- 1.3 10:41Z 5 1749 1.00017 -1679 -196 50 48 63.8 -0.1 19 63 -- 2.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:10Z 28 16 0 337 (NNW) 153 - Clear 23:43Z 27 17 0 311 (NW) 213 - Clear 00:15Z 28 16 9 40 (NE) 232 - Clear 00:19Z 29 15 10 39 (NE) 288 - Clear 00:53Z 27 15 11 42 (NE) 265 - Clear 01:24Z 29 6 15 26 (NNE) 148 - Clear 01:55Z 28 3 10 9 (N) 135 - Clear 02:28Z 29 0 5 348 (NNW) 98 - Clear 03:01Z 29 0 11 40 (NE) 227 - Clear 03:31Z 29 -2 7 10 (N) 142 - Clear 04:01Z 31 -10 13 23 (NNE) 46 - PtlyCldy 04:34Z 30 -20 16 21 (NNE) 46 - PtlyCldy 05:06Z 30 -24 13 24 (NNE) 88 - PtlyCldy 05:38Z 30 -24 17 17 (NNE) 269 - PtlyCldy 06:10Z 31 -23 5 36 (NE) 243 - PtlyCldy 06:43Z 31 -25 17 32 (NNE) 136 - PtlyCldy 07:14Z 32 -23 16 37 (NE) 124 - PtlyCldy 07:47Z 32 -23 10 44 (NE) 84 - PtlyCldy 08:19Z 33 -24 10 80 (E) 67 - PtlyCldy 08:52Z 32 -24 10 83 (E) 82 - PtlyCldy 09:23Z 33 -24 12 80 (E) 102 - PtlyCldy 09:56Z 32 -23 16 75 (ENE) 95 - PtlyCldy 10:29Z 32 -19 23 71 (ENE) 96 - MstlyCldy 11:03Z 31 -17 16 75 (ENE) 96 - MstlyCldy 11:36Z 31 -18 13 76 (ENE) 96 - MstlyCldy 12:09Z 31 -20 10 81 (E) 96 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 23:05Z Doors Open, Fans On 00:05Z Enclosure Off 11:45Z Enclosure On, Fans Off, Doors Closed Telescope parked at 121,30 with Cartridge 7 (Plate 1181) mounted Counterweights at 160 Spectro autofill reconnected No interlocks bypassed.
