APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday March 22, 2005 (MJD 53452) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Howard Brewington Night: Steph Snedden Around-the-clock: French Leger The ET Team: Jian Ge (UF) Julian Van Eyken (UF) Bo Zhao (UF) Other Support: Jon Brinkmann Norm Blythe Jean Yarger John Barentine ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Engineering ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Spent a lot of time beating the iodine cell into submission and looking into why we aren't getting light from the bright reference stars down the fibers. Also got a little sky time. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- The iodine cell arrrived this afternoon. A large part of the night was spent installing it and readjusting focus & tilt. 05:27Z Cartridge 5, ET plate 8005 Guide stars with offsets cleared. After exposing a short while, a vibration problem was apparent. It was tracked down to the iodine cell heater. It also took quite a while to properly align the iodine cell, afterward. Also, for three plates out of three now, the reference star has been missing...no light down its fiber. Either it is a problem with fiber 25 or a problem with drilling. Are all of these bright reference stars high enough proper motion that the problem lies in a proper motion miscalculation (they would all three have to have huge proper motions, so maybe not, but...)? A fiber-swapping test is planned for tomorrow to see if it is a fiber problem. 12:08Z Cartridge 4, plate ET 8004 Needed an FK5 and a lucky guess offset to find the guide stars. One exposure taken (with iodine cell) for 25 min. endNight -doTpm finished on cloudy night tapes. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):N/A QA Procedures Done (y/n):N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 31496, plate 8005 ------- 01:22 31496 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:54Z 5 8005 273.83 0.0000 64.00 0.0000 108.85 0.0000 1.000150 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL N/A Stays: JL N/A ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 05:54Z 5 8005 1.00015 -1481 66 150 274 64.0 2.4 12 237 - 1.4" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:43Z 39 8 11 279 (W) 236 - pcl 00:15Z 39 8 11 323 (NW) 205 - " 00:47Z 37 5 8 309 (NW) 125 - " 01:19Z 34 7 4 265 (W) 171 - " 01:51Z 34 7 6 206 (SSW) 136 - " 02:24Z 35 5 6 183 (S) 187 - " 02:56Z 34 7 11 189 (S) 285 - " 03:28Z 34 7 11 187 (S) 440 - " 04:01Z 34 6 10 185 (S) 388 - " 04:33Z 34 5 13 203 (SSW) 420 - " 05:05Z 34 6 9 196 (SSW) 416 - " 05:37Z 34 8 7 215 (SW) 393 - " 06:08Z 37 4 12 249 (WSW) 368 - " 06:38Z 36 6 10 237 (WSW) 384 - " 07:09Z 36 9 9 224 (SW) 364 - " 07:41Z 35 10 12 225 (SW) 349 - " 08:14Z 35 10 13 216 (SW) 366 - " 08:46Z 34 10 12 197 (SSW) 382 - " 09:18Z 33 12 16 210 (SSW) 503 - " 09:50Z 34 8 12 187 (S) 447 - " 10:23Z 34 9 20 215 (SW) 515 - " 10:55Z 35 11 21 215 (SW) 673 - " 11:28Z 35 11 17 211 (SSW) 531 - " 12:00Z 34 8 19 205 (SSW) 549 - " 12:32Z 34 8 10 211 (SSW) 597 - mcl 13:04Z 34 9 19 211 (SSW) 544 - " ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:15Z Doors opened, cone fans & ventilation on for approx. 15 min, then back off. 12:55Z Telescope stowed at 30 deg alt with cartridge 4 mounted.
