We finished two plates (1842 and 1732) and obtained ~2.5 h of good imaging on Stripes 18 S and 17 N. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with the afternoon check. Spectrograph focus checked and adjusted for a warmer temperature. It is in best focus for a temperature of about 12 C. Focus details in the problems section. Night: ------ Open shortly after 02:00Z. Sky was clear and photometric but we had moon for about an hour, so we began with spectro. 02:34Z Cart 1 Plate 1842 (tile 1364, chunk95). GSOGTF. Seeing calmed down during this plate and cemented our decision to switch to imaging upon completion. Finished the plate in three exposures of 1000, 1200 and 1200 s, respectively. We switched to imaging at 04:30Z. 04:39Z Run 5317 (Stripe 18 S, startLambda=+37 deg). In focus and skippy happy by frame 12 (seeing was very good and our initial focus guess reasonable). Mike's skippy would not run AGAIN, because of the same permissions issue on skippy.log from last night, so he added "group write" to the file's permissions and everything worked fine. Seeing was pretty good throughout this run. Ended at frame 188, Lambda=+64.5 deg. 06:35Z Run 5318 (Stripe 17 N, startLambda=+16 deg). In focus from the get-go; skippy happy by frame 10 (nuErr=7.4", but small enough not to correct). Seeing started to trend out of spec almost immediately as the wind became more southerly than westerly. seeingRun declared the whole run to date "acceptable" about frame 34. Dust counts crept up during this run; given the winds, we felt sure the dust source was gypsum rather than pollen, and humidity remained low so we carried on. We will ask the day crew to C02 clean the mirrors tomorrow. Seeing trended worse, and seeingRun declared the run BAD starting at frame 119, Lambda=33 deg. Seeing never improved. We ended the drift at 08:27Z, Frame 194, Lambda= 44.4 deg. The good chunk of this run, including the ramps, is Frames 9-119, Lambda +16.6 deg to +33.1 deg. 08:31Z Run 5319 (on-telescope bias for 35 frames). We opt to wait out the seeing while we did a bias on the telescope, then decided to switch to spectro. During this time we saw structure in the sky in cloudCam images which suggested we were riding the edge of photometricity. Seeing also did not significantly improve while we waited. 09:04Z Cart 8 Plate 1732 (tile 1234, chunk88). No GSOGTF. fk5InFiber number 10 found the star. Disabled guide fiber 7 as there was no guide star in it. We determined during this plate that we would not have enough time to get even one science exposure on another plate, given instChange and setup time, so we got bonus signal on this plate. Finished with more than enough signal to spare.
