APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday August 28, 2005 (MJD 53611) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Steph Snedden Howard Brewington Kaike Pan ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Closed for most of the night because of clouds, wind, and/or high humidity. Completed one good exposure on plate 2257. Did new guiderDarks. Performed Jim's Spectro Saturation Tests for flats. SOP indicated that the RotOffset value was -0.1285 We were unable to run endNight; see log for error message. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- We had a problem with id5 last night, so today the chassis was power cycled and the crates rebooted, which fixed the problem. The nfs problem from last night was corrected by Fritz. Night: ------------- We had unsettled weather conditions to the west as twilight ended, so we waited. In the mean time, we adjusted the top/bottom balance of the 2.5-meter. Although the CW were set at 270lbs, we discovered that the scope was happier with a 240lb setting. As the sky cleared and we prepared to do spectro, we needed to switched the software and rebooted all the crates. After wards, the spectro server failed. We tried a start_servers -s (to start the spectro server), which caused the spectro server to appear for a moment, but it quickly disappeared. Yet, a start_servers -K command fix the server problem. We moved the donuts of the imager collimation tests on 53609 from devel1 to phoenix:/data/photo/optics/53609 04:27Z Cart 04, plate 2257 (seguefaint122). Guide stars on goToField. For some reason, SOS labeled this plate as plate-zero. It's also plate-zero in the header. We will need to do some new guiderDarks in the near future on devel1 since sop could not find any. We completed two science exposures on plate 2257 (15 and 25-minutes). The first one was good, but the second one was not because the seeing continued to deteriorate as a result of increasing winds. During the setup on this plate, however, we discovered that the rotOffset value was -0.1285 as contained in the offset section of this log. We got the following guider error during the previous plate; see below. expected floating-point number but got "" expected floating-point number but got "" while executing "format " %12.6f" $guiderData($expNum,AltMount) " invoked from within "puts $outFile [format " %12.6f" $guiderData($expNum,AltMount) ]..." This gave us the opportunity to do the guiderDarks, i.e., guiderDarks 30 10 as described in Folklore. Next, we performed Spectro Saturation Tests for Jim. We took these test spectro flats for Jim per his request. Exp. Number Exp. time Max.
