APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday September 1, 2005 (MJD 53615) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Night: Mike Harvanek Dan Long Kaike Pan Swing: Jurek Krzesinksi Support: Steph Snedden Fritz Stauffer Gourmands: John Barentine Bill Ketzeback Richard Kessler Brigitte Kessler ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- SN Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather kept us closed all night. TCC positional info IS in imaging headers. SoS IS working. The SN script makeAllFieldLinks was tested and appears to work. The nfs problem is still with us. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- TCC positional info in the imaging headers was verified. The guider Mac has trouble with the nfs mount of /data/spectro/guider. SoS is up, running and reducing spectro frames. Spectro cals (bias, flat, arc) were obtained. Spectro collimation was adjusted. The interlocks panel opened from watcher running on host2 was working this afternoon but is not working this evening. Night: ------ Ventilation and opening were prevented by humidity and threatening clouds. While waiting for the weather, we shared a meal with this month's gourmands. Goumet night menu: Roasted Tomatillo Salsa Pico de Gallo & Tortilla Chips Mixed Greens Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing Chicken & Wild Rice Soup Black Bean Chili Black Eyed Peas with Onions, Tomatoes & Ham Sausage & Bell Pepper Pizza Crispy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Fruit Salad with Pina Colada Dressing & Mint Plain & Honey Roasted Macadamia Nuts Everything was delicious, as usual. Thank you to all the chefs. New nominal mig values were obtained due to yesterday's battery change. If the collimation needs tweaking, we'll get another new set at that time. Fritz fixed the guider Mac problem with the nfs mount of /data/spectro/guider. Testing inside the enclosure (i.e., a couple of gcams) shows the guider to be working again. We did a test "drift" with the imager (run 5560) at the request of the SN folk. The shutters were open but the imager was covered and in the dog house. We also tested the script makeAllFieldLinks on this drift and it appeared to succeed. Eric agreed that the script had worked. We did some test exposures with the PT for Eric. All exposures were taken with the dome closed. See the PT log for details. endNight complained about missing gang files from run 5559. This turned out to be the nfs problem. The normal workaround (ls in proper directory on files1) fixed the problem. After this, endNight was successful. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5558 01:59Z 02:10Z 100 O 80.37 83.17 33 ignore 5559 02:12Z 04:59Z 100 O 83.47 125.40 294 ignore long test bias 5560 05:09Z 06:16Z 82 S 130.60 147.42 125 ignore SN test drift ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 33733, plate -9999 ------- 20:58Z 33733 0.0 bias {{}} Missing frame - crate reboot? 21:02Z 33735 0.0 bias {{}} 21:12Z 33736 0.0 bias {{}} 21:16Z 33737 0.0 bias {{}} 21:29Z 33738 0.0 bias {{}} 23:24Z 33739 0.0 bias {{}} Missing frame - crate reboot? ----- sequence 33741, plate 2260 ------- 23:38Z 33741 0.0 bias {{}} 23:46Z 33742 10.0 flat post-flat 23:48Z 33743 2.0 arc post-arc 00:02Z 33744 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 00:05Z 33745 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} 00:25Z 33746 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann l}} 00:28Z 33747 2.1 arc {{focus, hartmann r}} 00:44Z 33748 10.0 flat post-flat 00:46Z 33749 2.0 arc post-arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 02:03Z 56 51 13 85 (E) -9999 - clouds, lightning 02:35Z 56 50 0 116 (ESE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 03:07Z 50 49 17 29 (NNE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 03:38Z 50 46 24 19 (NNE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 04:08Z 48 47 12 37 (NE) -9999 - rain, lightning 04:40Z 49 46 5 112 (ESE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 05:12Z 50 47 6 95 (E) -9999 - clouds, lightning 05:43Z 52 49 10 128 (SE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 06:15Z 53 48 23 147 (SSE) -9999 - clouds, lightning 06:48Z 52 47 23 150 (SSE) -9999 - clouds 07:20Z 50 49 14 94 (E) -9999 - clouds 07:53Z 48 49 21 71 (ENE) -9999 - clouds 08:25Z 48 49 16 87 (E) -9999 - clouds 08:57Z 48 49 15 81 (E) -9999 - clouds 09:29Z 48 49 17 80 (E) -9999 - clouds 10:01Z 47 48 15 83 (E) -9999 - clouds 10:34Z 48 48 12 89 (E) -9999 - clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Never opened (weather).
