APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 5, 2005 (MJD 53649) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: John Barentine Night: Dan Long Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Supernova science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We imaged 82 N (run 5702) for 163 frames from lambda +106.5 to +129.7 (including ramps). Twilight occurred at frame 51, lambda +113 and the seeing went above 2" around frame 150, lambda +127.8 so at least 100 frames of this run are good. logTool is having trouble reporting some information. See the main log for details. Clouds, high wind, high humidity, fog, lightning. We took a set of 15 dithered spectro flats with the "specFlats 15" command. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- Ran a test bias for Eric (Run 5699) so he could check why the last frame of last night's final imaging run dropped some header information. No other issues during checkout. Night ----- We mounted the imager before sunset and did an on-telescope bias in a darkened enclosure. Run 5701: On-telescope bias. i5 looks bad but everything else is okay. We opened the building after the bias completed and got ready for 82 N. 01:35Z Run 5702: 82 N, start lambda +106.5. Everything good from the beginning. Twilight ended around frame 51, lambda +113. The seeing was 1.5 - 1.7" for most of the run but it went above 2" around frame 150, lambda +127.8. This corresponded to the arrival of a weather front which brought an increase in clouds and a sharp increase in both wind and humidity. We stopped the run at frame 163, lambda +129.7 and closed up (03:15Z). logTool is not recording some information. There was no frame information in the spectro summary for the first 7 frames (thru 34128). Runs 5700 and 5701 were missing in the imaging summary. There was a 4.5 hour gap in the weather info and no software version info after that for the TCC. The spectro frame and imaging run info were obtained by using s4l and i4l. The software version info was entered by hand. The weather info is missing. Note that Mike did not have any problems with logTool after he took it over from John. Maybe there is a problem with the way John's account is set up? We took a set of 15 dithered spectro flats with the "specFlats 15" command. The flats are frames 34130 - 34144. The 2 arcs that follow the dithered flats are frames 34145 - 34146. endNight rejoiced. Supernova data appeared to spool successfully. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5699 19:28Z 19:35Z 100 O 15.85 17.64 26 ignore Test bias for Eric 5700 21:40Z 22:37Z 100 O 48.96 63.09 42 bias ignore - doghouse 5701 00:49Z 01:11Z 100 O 96.35 101.76 49 bias on-telescope 5702 01:37Z 03:11Z 82 N 106.44 130.04 171 science good ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- See the main log for details. ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5702 19 4 35 -2.100 0.117 -5.200 0.103 0.00213 183 57 5702 32 4 18 -2.100 0.134 -5.100 0.080 0.00124 183 57 5702 70 4 95 -6.100 0.143 -4.100 0.131 0.00037 183 57 5702 159 4 124 -14.500 0.181 -3.100 0.172 -0.00272 183 57 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5702 29 1 57 357 62 -3.131 0.260 -0.485 0.237 0.00163 5702 29 1 57 357 63 -3.105 0.152 -0.146 0.200 0.00049 5702 29 1 57 357 65 -2.970 0.176 -0.064 0.320 0.00022 5702 29 1 57 357 77 -3.036 0.247 0.127 0.193 -0.00043 5702 29 1 57 357 65 -3.289 0.172 0.203 0.245 -0.00068 5702 46 1 57 357 66 -3.565 0.142 0.495 0.303 -0.00167 5702 46 1 57 357 54 -3.586 0.238 0.404 0.186 -0.00136 5702 46 1 57 357 65 -3.727 0.157 0.792 0.232 -0.00266 5702 46 1 57 357 70 -3.838 0.269 1.030 0.320 -0.00346 5702 46 1 57 357 69 -3.991 0.338 1.204 0.228 -0.00405 5702 82 1 57 357 57 -4.368 0.182 0.481 0.253 -0.00162 5702 82 1 57 357 63 -4.421 0.219 0.634 0.188 -0.00213 5702 82 1 57 357 66 -4.407 0.177 0.770 0.246 -0.00259 5702 82 1 57 357 71 -4.416 0.164 0.907 0.242 -0.00305 5702 82 1 57 357 60 -4.385 0.291 0.934 0.298 -0.00314 5702 98 1 57 357 69 -3.224 0.135 1.194 0.308 -0.00402 5702 98 1 57 357 67 -3.227 0.225 1.297 0.451 -0.00436 5702 98 1 57 357 72 -3.092 0.274 1.507 0.412 -0.00507 5702 98 1 57 357 82 -3.106 0.241 1.553 0.274 -0.00522 5702 98 1 57 357 68 -3.497 0.218 1.785 0.449 -0.00600 5702 152 1 57 357 7 -2.275 0.489 -0.399 0.279 0.00134 5702 152 1 57 357 19 -2.325 0.812 0.117 0.552 -0.00040 5702 152 1 57 357 15 -2.967 0.388 0.924 0.273 -0.00311 5702 152 1 57 357 11 -3.067 0.346 0.438 0.385 -0.00147 5702 152 1 57 357 12 -3.285 0.234 0.844 0.145 -0.00284 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): NO UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 34122, plate -9999 ------- 21:39Z 34122 0.0 bias 21:43Z 34123 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34124, plate 2258 ------- 23:05Z 34124 10.0 flat 23:07Z 34125 2.0 arc 23:11Z 34126 2.1 arc 23:14Z 34127 2.1 arc ----- sequence 34128, plate -9999 ------- 01:05Z 34128 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34129, plate -9999 ------- 05:53 34129 0.0 bias ----- sequence 34130, plate 2258 ------- (cartridge 4) 09:21 34130 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:25 34131 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:29 34132 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:33 34133 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:36 34134 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:40 34135 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:44 34136 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:48 34137 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:52 34138 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:55 34139 10.0 flat dithered flats 09:59 34140 10.0 flat dithered flats 10:03 34141 10.0 flat dithered flats 10:07 34142 10.0 flat dithered flats 10:11 34143 10.0 flat dithered flats 10:15 34144 10.0 flat dithered flats 10:18 34145 2.0 arc 10:21 34146 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Failed to get a reading before we closed.
