APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday November 27, 2005 (MJD 53702) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Jurek Krzesinski Kaike Pan Mike Harvanek (swing) Jon Brinkman (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Supernova and SEGUE science. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- imaged SN 82 N from lambda 115 to 172 under bad seeing (2.2" to 3.0") and outside temperature as low as -12.6 C degree. We had to close the telescope due to sp2 and ccd 33 problems, but seeing was getting worse than 3" anyway. Problem: --- 2.5m temporary halted during slewing to stripe 82 N. --- power supply for CCD 02 went wrong. --- u 3 misbehaved. see problem section for details. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- We got the NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header warning for the bias, flat and arc today: 2005-11-27 22:03:48Z: NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header 2005-11-27 22:16:04Z: NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header 2005-11-27 22:18:23Z: NaN value for IPARATE in spectro fits header The spectro collimation was adjusted to approximately -3 degrees C: sp1> mechPiston -5000 sp2> mechPiston -5000 The postCal following the adjustment showed all x/wsigma values to be in the black. High dust counts delayed early ventilation. Night: ------ ==== supernova imaging ==== 23:20Z imager mounted. 00:10Z Run 5908: on-telescope bias. 01:04Z Run 5909: (SN Stripe 82 N, startLambda=+110). We tried to start at lambda 113, but focus was so bad (mirrors way out of equilibrium with abient temperature ~ -9C) that our preliminary guess of the telescope focus was too far off for the foucsLoop to catch up. Then skippy reported nuErr ~21", so we had to correct the pointing. Pointing adjustment is made at frame 37, focusLoop still not able to move the secondary (possibly because of the bad seeing). "setfocus" was issued from IOP on frame 52. Finaly we can say that the ramp starts at frame 38, lambda 115.1, science at frame 50, lambda 117. Seeing is about 2.5". Because of the bad seeing, focus Loop is still struggling but we are more or less in focus. At frame 107, watcher issued two MCP:TPM messages (see problem section). Since then errors kept comming back when we cleared them. At frame 175, 02:45Z, We noticed that ambient temperature droped down to -12.1 C (below the closing limit, -12.0 C). But since we are imaging, and telescope is near parking position, Jurek said we should be okay even if the temperature dropps 1-2 degree below closing conditions. Seeing get worse, >=3.0", at frame 285, 03:50Z. At frame 395, SkyL of CCD 33 droped to 0 from about 20. Stop at frame 422 (lamba 172), due to a critical error message on SP2 reporteed by watcher and the misbehavior of CCD 33 (see problems for details). 12:00Z endNight rejoyced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5907 22:04Z 22:21Z 100 O 107.04 111.54 44 ignore 5908 00:09Z 00:26Z 100 O 138.58 142.68 42 bias 5909 01:04Z 05:10Z 82 N 110.57 172.35 426 science 5910 06:54Z 07:26Z 100 O -119.93 -112.04 67 ignore 5911 10:20Z 10:34Z 100 O -68.25 -64.94 36 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5909 10 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 5909 12 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 5909 16 4 3 -7.200 0.040 21.300 0.116 -0.00808 239 39 5909 19 4 4 -32.000 0.020 34.400 0.078 0.24629 239 39 5909 27 4 77 -7.900 0.141 21.000 0.156 -0.00675 239 39 5909 39 4 59 -0.300 0.155 -0.500 0.168 -0.00251 239 39 5909 66 4 153 -0.200 0.146 -1.000 0.189 -0.00248 239 39 5909 97 4 132 -0.100 0.123 -1.500 0.185 -0.00249 239 39 5909 149 4 114 0.300 0.155 -2.300 0.140 -0.00194 239 39 5909 201 4 60 1.200 0.143 -3.200 0.194 -0.00153 239 39 5909 253 4 36 1.900 0.183 -3.600 0.273 -0.00194 239 39 5909 305 4 11 2.400 0.101 -4.700 0.119 -0.00208 239 39 5909 318 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 5909 375 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5909 90 1 39 301 22 -2.416 0.505 -2.549 0.488 0.00857 5909 90 1 39 301 39 -2.763 0.410 -3.113 0.343 0.01047 5909 90 1 39 301 34 -2.738 0.369 -2.817 0.572 0.00947 5909 90 1 39 301 31 -2.892 0.286 -2.753 0.326 0.00926 5909 90 1 39 301 30 -2.926 0.202 -2.796 0.456 0.00940 5909 108 1 39 301 28 -2.581 0.269 -3.441 0.321 0.01157 5909 108 1 39 301 40 -2.654 0.368 -2.869 0.296 0.00965 5909 108 1 39 301 31 -2.358 0.373 -2.591 0.277 0.00871 5909 108 1 39 301 32 -2.227 0.480 -2.327 0.419 0.00782 5909 108 1 39 301 20 -2.265 0.425 -2.034 0.376 0.00684 5909 126 1 39 301 35 -1.986 0.656 -2.127 0.395 0.00715 5909 126 1 39 301 35 -2.467 0.637 -2.398 0.429 0.00806 5909 126 1 39 301 28 -2.444 0.464 -2.274 0.303 0.00764 5909 126 1 39 301 33 -2.531 0.519 -1.864 0.389 0.00627 5909 126 1 39 301 16 -2.461 0.497 -2.023 0.512 0.00680 5909 160 1 39 301 28 -0.889 0.439 -2.559 0.376 0.00860 5909 160 1 39 301 35 -0.880 0.352 -2.685 0.324 0.00903 5909 160 1 39 301 22 -0.960 0.255 -2.251 0.414 0.00757 5909 160 1 39 301 21 -0.956 0.283 -2.106 0.216 0.00708 5909 160 1 39 301 26 -1.006 0.450 -2.067 0.430 0.00695 5909 160 1 39 301 28 -0.889 0.439 -2.559 0.376 0.00860 5909 160 1 39 301 35 -0.880 0.352 -2.685 0.324 0.00903 5909 160 1 39 301 22 -0.960 0.255 -2.251 0.414 0.00757 5909 160 1 39 301 21 -0.956 0.283 -2.106 0.216 0.00708 5909 160 1 39 301 26 -1.006 0.450 -2.067 0.430 0.00695 5909 176 1 39 301 21 -1.445 0.339 -2.681 0.457 0.00901 5909 176 1 39 301 29 -1.671 0.297 -2.824 0.545 0.00950 5909 176 1 39 301 33 -1.589 0.339 -2.584 0.507 0.00869 5909 176 1 39 301 18 -1.750 0.179 -2.380 0.203 0.00800 5909 176 1 39 301 16 -1.524 0.253 -2.395 0.342 0.00805 5909 228 1 39 301 7 -0.312 0.247 -2.113 0.497 0.00711 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 35049, plate -9999 ------- 22:04 35049 0.0 bias ----- sequence 35050, plate 1905 ------- 22:16 35050 10.0 flat 22:19 35051 2.0 arc 22:30 35052 10.0 flat 22:32 35053 2.0 arc 22:44 35054 0.0 bias ----- sequence 35055, plate -9999 ------- 23:38 35055 0.0 bias ----- sequence 35056, plate -9999 ------- 00:27 35056 0.0 bias 09:58 35057 0.0 bias 10:01 35058 0.0 bias 10:04 35059 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:00Z imager -58.73 0.0074 39.07 -0.0025 43.69 0.0000 1.000000 02:43Z imager -58.73 0.0074 39.08 -0.0025 43.69 0.0000 1.000000 04:12Z imager -58.73 0.0074 39.09 -0.0025 43.70 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:00Z imager 1.00000 0 278 324 -59 39.1 -11.3 7 344 23 2.4 02:42Z imager 1.00000 0 178 223 -59 39.1 -12.2 15 8 23 2.2 04:13Z imager 1.00000 0 47 92 -59 39.1 -12.7 9 26 23 3.0 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:48Z 19 -4 27 270 (W) 12672 - Four hours after (at 10:15Z), Jurek takes another set of doghouse bias, luckly, bias level of CCD 33 does come back to normal (1206). It is not clear if the misbehavior of u 3 is temperature related or not.
