Lost some time in first half to clouds, but finished four plates and got useable signal on a fifth. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon Checkout: ------------------ Spectro focus checked but not adjusted. No problems noted during checkout, except the recurrence of the guider "LTA11" error. It did not affect our ability to guide. The test doghouse bias was mistakenly labelled "bias" instead of "ignore". Night: ------ We opened to partly cloudy skies at sunset for spectroscopy. 01:15Z Cartridge 1, plate 1543 - lowz Used an FK5 in bright twilight to find the field. The clouds started to thicken as soon as twilight ended. One 25 minute exposure was taken that did not break (S/N)**2 >2. We waited for the wweather to improve. When the clouds thinned a bit, we took another two exposures. Only one was good, adding another 3.2 to the (S/N)**2, but the plate remains NOT DONE. 03:05Z Cartridge 8, plate 2067 seguefaint Needed an FK5 to find the field. The clouds thickened again. We waited again. We squeaked in two exposures during two sucker holes, but the sucker holes didn't last long enough to get useful signal. Plate is not done. 05:17Z Cartridge 9, plate 2075 - seguefaint Needed an FK5 to find the field. The clouds cleared out, but the seeing stayed up around 2 asec. We stayed on this field until a survey plate was available, and managed to get enough S/N to declare the plate done, with a total exposure time of 9600 s. 08:52Z Cartridge 5, plate 2298 - Legacy Guide stars on gotoField. Completed this plate with a total exposure time of 3000 sec. 10:00Z Cartridge 3, plate 2004 - Legacy Two guide stars on fiber edges. This plate already had previous signal and only needed one more exposure, but since we had some time to spare, we added one extra exposure. The plate is done with a total exposure time tonight of 1800 s. 11:01Z Cartridge 4, plate 2364 - Legacy Guide stars on gotoField. The seeing improved to 1 asec and better, but too late for imaging. We finished this plate and took an extra exposure because we had the time.
