APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday February 19, 2006 (MJD 53786) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing and night: Stephanie Snedden, Elena Malanushenko, Viktor Malanushenko ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The weather was bad in the evening. No twilight observations. We opened late at 4:00Z, but after that time the weather conditions are improved and we finished five plates: 2107, 2211, 2351, 2356, 1850. Some minor technical problems are occured, you can see description in log and problem sections. S (and maybe N) elephant trunk(s) is / are cracked near the collar. :-( ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon checkout: ------------------- It is cloudy, high humidity, some metal parts around the telescop are wet. We did not open and ventilate, but performed all other steps of afternoon checkout. When we run "goDrift", the "id1" display did not work, and id1 archive did not been created. The rebooting of Crate-1 fixed the problem. No other problems to report. Night: ------ Cloudy, wait for the weather improving. 2:15 Z - started ventialtion and opened the doors. 4:00 Z opened telescope. The weather conditions are still around of close/open limit. Plate 2403, cartridge 4, seguefaint. Found Stars on GoTo Field after clearing of offsets. T=0.8C, fwhm 2.2, efficiency 0.5, fwhm 2.2, focus 200. 4:27 Z. doNextScience 1500. Clouds, sometine we had zero efficiency. The exposure is declared as bad. "CONTINUE" Plate 2211, cart 5, chunk. Found stars on Go To Field. T=1.2C, efficiency 0.1-0.8, fwhm 1.6, focus 150. 05:23:22Z doNextScience Watcher produces warning: "MCP: tpm m1 temp (Excessive Front-Back Difference (Right Half):Excessive Front-Back Difference (Upper Half): 2006-02-20 05:31:59Z)". 05:45:57Z, 06:03:59Z doNextScience S/N is 15.1, total exposure is 3000s. "DONE" The sky is clear now. Plate 2107. Cart 3, chunk. Found Stars on Go To Field. "DONE" During the InstChange command the TCC stopped to respond and gave timeout message. The taking of guider flat return TCC to operation. Plate 2356, Cartridge 9. Found Stars on Go To Field after clear offsets. Xsigma and Wsigma for flat and arc for previous plate show yellow results. We change the position of spectro for -2000 to take into account the dropping of temperature. The result is better but still yellow. T=-0.7C, efficiency 0.8-0.9, fwhm 1.4, focus 200. 09:34:23Z, 09:57:14Z,10:19:47Z doNextScience S/N is b1=14.3, other are more then 17.5. Total exposure is 3750. "DONE" Plate 1850, Cartridge 1, chunk. The display "id1" did not display the bias for goDrift. We checked archive to see if this problem only with display itself or with some other process. Watcher show that archive was not created. We rebooted the Crate-1 and it fixed the problem. 2. One moment the TCC stopped responding during the command "ChangeInst". After timeout, going to the field and doing a guder flat returned tcc to operation. The watcher complained with 4 messages: "Text="Could not queue a write to user:message output dies": (2006-02-20 09:13:38Z) "Facil="SYSTEM":VMSMsg:"DEVOFFLINE" (2006-02-20 09:13:38Z) "Facil="SYSTEM":VMSMsg:"HANGUP" (2006-02-20 09:13:38Z) Text="Write to user failed:output terminates to user12": (2006-02-20 09:13:38Z) 3. PT has several complaines wbout difficulty to find the objects. See error messages in the PT log. 4. Watcher gave some messages: "m1 temp (Excessive Front-Back Difference (Right Half):Excessive Front-Back Difference (Upper Half): 2006-02-20 08:25:10Z )" and "m2 temp (Excessive Front-Back Difference (Upper Half): 2006-02-20 08:28:32Z)"
