APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday May 30, 2006 (MJD 53886) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Howard Brewington Steph Snedden Shannon Watters Mike Harvanek (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A good night for spectroscopy. Four plates declared done (1804, 2168, 1823, 2164). Plate 1813 may also be done, but we are awaiting feedback on it. Good signal on plate 2193 as well. Integrated dust: approximately 18000 dust-hours. Cleaning at the engineering staff's discretion. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Spectrograph collimation was checked but not adjusted. The collimation is currently set for a temperature of approximately 10 - 11 degrees C. No problems to report. Night: ------ Opened at sunset to mostly clear skies. There were just a few clouds low on the horizon. Because of moon, we started with spectroscopy. 03:00Z - Cartridge 7, plate 2164 - Legacy Needed an FK5 and an educated offset guess to find the field (offset of -10asec in RA). Plate was declared done with a total exposure time of 2500 s. 04:27Z - Cartridge 1, plate 1804 - Legacy Seeing is subarcsec. GSOGTF. Finished the plate in a total exposure time of 2450 s. 05:31Z - Cartridge 2, plate 1813 - Legacy Needed an FK5 to find the field. We got (S/N)**2 high enough to finish the plate in a total exposure time of 2250 s, HOWEVER the last exposure only went for 450s, so technically the plate isn't done. We'll leave it plugged, but request that Brian or someone else have a look to see if the sky lines are bright enough to make the last exposure useful. 06:42Z - Cartridge 6, plate 1823 - Legacy Needed an FK5 to find the field. We got a warning about bad sky residuals from 5871 to 5957 A on exposure 39564 r1. apoplotsky did show more scatter there than on previous exposures. Finished this plate with a total exposure time of 2400 s. 07:36Z - Cartridge 3, plate 2168 - Legacy GSOGTF. We planned to take one exposure on this plate, then switch to imaging, but of course the seeing blew up on us during the first exposure. Looks like we will stick with spectroscopy. We had more warnings of high sky residuals at 5892 A for r1. Declared this plate done with a total exposure time of 3450 s. 09:03Z - Cartridge 5, plate 2193 - SEGUE faint One GSOGTF. Whopping fiber warning for r1 fiber 229. We acquired good signal in a total exposure time of 4200 s, but not enough signal to finish the plate. 11:09Z - endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6184 00:43Z 00:58Z 100 O -31.71 -27.88 40 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39541, plate -9999 ------- 18:49 39541 0.0 bias 00:13 39542 0.0 bias 00:44 39543 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39543, plate 2164 ------- 00:54 39544 10.0 flat 00:57 39545 2.0 arc 01:07 39546 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39546, plate 2164 ------- 03:24 39547 10.0 flat 03:26 39548 2.0 arc 03:45 39549 900.1 target 04:02 39550 900.1 target 04:17 39551 700.1 target ----- sequence 39552, plate 1804 ------- 04:29 39552 10.0 flat 04:31 39553 2.0 arc 04:50 39554 900.1 target 05:08 39555 900.1 target 05:22 39556 650.1 target ----- sequence 39557, plate 1813 ------- 05:37 39557 10.0 flat 05:39 39558 2.0 arc 05:58 39559 900.1 target 06:16 39560 900.1 target 06:26 39561 450.1 target ----- sequence 39562, plate 1823 ------- 06:39 39562 10.0 flat 06:41 39563 2.0 arc 07:00 39564 900.1 target 07:13 39565 600.1 target 07:30 39566 900.1 target ----- sequence 39567, plate 2168 ------- 07:44 39567 10.0 flat 07:46 39568 2.0 arc 08:04 39569 900.1 target 08:25 39570 1100.1 target 08:52 39571 1450.1 target 08:55 39572 10.0 flat 08:57 39573 2.0 arc ----- sequence 39574, plate 2193 ------- 09:11 39574 10.0 flat 09:13 39575 2.0 arc 09:38 39576 1200.1 target 10:01 39577 1200.1 target 10:19 39578 900.1 target 10:36 39579 900.1 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:36Z 7 2164 76.37 -0.0008 54.92 0.0039 239.77 -0.0190 1.000140 04:37Z 1 1804 -14.36 -0.0027 65.87 0.0036 167.69 0.0066 1.000110 05:46Z 2 1813 -20.88 -0.0074 64.07 0.0035 162.26 0.0074 1.000110 06:52Z 6 1823 -6.48 -0.0033 61.81 0.0041 174.42 0.0094 1.000070 07:51Z 3 2168 294.02 -0.0033 65.01 0.0022 124.94 0.0020 1.000040 10:05Z 5 2193 272.66 -0.0058 60.92 0.0010 109.33 -0.0108 1.000090 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:36Z 7 2164 1.00014 -1383 -228 -250 76 54.9 14.7 8 264 - 1.0" 04:37Z 1 1804 1.00011 -1086 15 -225 -14 65.9 14.6 7 254 - <1" 05:46Z 2 1813 1.00011 -1086 94 -150 -21 64.1 14.6 9 290 - 1.0" 06:52Z 6 1823 1.00007 -691 451 -125 -6 61.8 14.5 6 268 - 1.2" 07:51Z 3 2168 1.00004 -395 664 -150 294 65.0 13.9 3 132 - 1.3" 10:05Z 5 2193 1.00009 -889 289 -125 273 60.9 14.0 2 126 - 1.2" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:16Z 67 24 11 268 (W) 2269 - clear 23:48Z 68 25 19 227 (SW) 2215 - ' 00:20Z 66 22 10 266 (W) 2020 - ' 00:50Z 65 21 8 286 (WNW) 2104 - ' 01:12Z 65 21 16 232 (SW) 2134 - ' 01:44Z 63 20 13 267 (W) 2428 - ' 02:16Z 60 18 10 259 (W) 2379 - ' 02:49Z 59 16 11 244 (WSW) 2010 - ' 03:19Z 59 15 7 267 (W) 1921 - ' 03:49Z 58 14 5 255 (WSW) 2100 - ' 04:20Z 58 14 8 236 (SW) 1908 - ' 04:51Z 58 14 5 264 (W) 1916 - ' 05:22Z 58 15 7 268 (W) 2055 - ' 05:52Z 58 15 10 304 (NW) 2046 - ' 06:23Z 58 14 8 285 (WNW) 1755 - ' 06:54Z 58 15 7 267 (W) 1744 - ' 07:24Z 58 14 7 289 (WNW) 1799 - ' 07:55Z 55 12 5 113 (ESE) 1703 - ' 08:25Z 56 15 4 128 (SE) 1629 - ' 08:56Z 57 14 0 190 (S) 1578 - ' 09:27Z 55 11 3 264 (W) 1536 - ' 09:59Z 57 12 0 172 (S) 1470 - ' 10:31Z 57 14 0 228 (SW) 1447 - ' 11:04Z 57 13 2 180 (S) 1417 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:35Z - Doors opened.
