APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday June 21, 2006 (MJD 53908) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: Howard Brewington John Barentine ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A dusty, cloudy night. We obtained three science exposures on Plate 2547 through clouds early on, all of which had to be declared bad in SoS for insufficient signal. A dust spike shortly before 06:00Z convinced us to close the telescope, and we never re-opened. Integrated dust for the period we were open was about 7300 dust-hours. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with the afternoon check. Spectro focus was checked but not changed, best focus about 17 C. 21:25Z Rain sensor went off (disabled). 00:00Z Rain sensor re-enabled. 01:35Z Doors Open, Fans On. 02:15Z Enclosure Open. Night: ------ 02:39Z Cart 5 Plate 2547 (tile 8217, seguefaint147). No GSOGTF, nor an fk5InFiber number 10. We had to resport to spiralPattern to find guide stars. We tried three 1500 s exposures here, trying to get some signal through the clouds, but ended up declaring all of them bad in SoS for lack of sufficient (S/N)^2. 05:12Z Sky was solidly overcast. We slewed to stow and closed mirror covers in case of rain. 05:48Z Dust spiked to ~18000. We closed and turned fans off. The dust remained > 5000 for the rest of the night. The clouds thinned a little, but never looked as though they were going to clear. We called it at 09:45Z with 30 minutes to go until the start of twilight. endNight brushed the dust off and rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 39907, plate 2545 ------- 21:38 39907 10.0 flat 21:40 39908 2.0 arc 21:51 39909 2.1 arc 21:53 39910 2.1 arc ----- sequence 39911, plate -9999 ------- 01:01 39911 0.0 bias 01:05 39912 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39913, plate -9999 ------- 02:30 39913 0.0 bias ----- sequence 39913, plate 2547 ------- 03:21 39914 10.0 flat 03:24 39915 2.0 arc 04:05 39916 1500.1 target 04:33 39917 1500.2 target 05:00 39918 1500.2 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:15Z 5 0 192.36 0.0034 63.59 0.0026 19.86 -0.0004 1.000150 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 04:15Z 5 0 1.00015 -1481 -182 -100 192 63.6 18.2 3 165 -- 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:10Z 72 29 7 340 (NNW) 1542 - Mostly Cloudy 21:41Z 67 29 13 348 (NNW) 1725 - Sprinkles 22:11Z 67 30 10 14 (NNE) 1644 - Sprinkles 22:42Z 68 26 7 356 (NNW) 1725 - Cloudy 23:12Z 69 26 13 355 (NNW) 1349 - Mostly Cloudy 23:42Z 75 31 4 277 (W) 1445 - Partly Cloudy 00:12Z 75 31 4 260 (W) 2063 - Partly Cloudy 00:45Z 73 30 14 224 (SW) 1938 - Partly Cloudy 01:17Z 70 30 9 220 (SW) 1885 - Mostly Clear 01:47Z 67 30 10 185 (S) 1580 - Mostly Clear 02:19Z 65 30 14 149 (SSE) 1638 - Mostly Clear 02:31Z 65 31 9 162 (SSE) 1754 - PtlyCldy 03:01Z 64 31 9 142 (SE) 1758 - PtlyCldy 03:31Z 64 30 1 141 (SE) 1678 - PtlyCldy 04:03Z 64 29 4 180 (S) 1879 - Mostly Cloudy 04:34Z 64 30 5 170 (S) 1769 - Mostly Cloudy 05:05Z 65 31 12 178 (S) 2109 - Mostly Cloudy 05:36Z 64 32 8 184 (S) 2017 - Mostly Cloudy 06:07Z 63 33 13 147 (SSE) 23969 - Mostly Cloudy 06:39Z 59 35 13 150 (SSE) 32556 - Mostly Cloudy 07:11Z 60 35 7 170 (S) 19934 - Mostly Cloudy 07:43Z 62 32 8 168 (SSE) 9666 - Mostly Cloudy 08:16Z 61 32 7 166 (SSE) 8706 - Mostly Cloudy 08:48Z 63 31 10 180 (S) 6388 - PtlyCldy 09:20Z 64 30 10 179 (S) 5399 - Mostly Cloudy 09:52Z 64 30 10 196 (SSW) 5505 - Mostly Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:35Z Doors Open, Fans On. 02:15Z Enclosure Open. 05:50Z Enclosure on, fans off, louvers and doors closed Telescope parked at 121,30 with Cart 5 (Plate 2547) mounted Counterweights at 250 No interlocks bypassed Spectro autofill reconnected (but NOT force-filled per French) Dewar weights at 10:00Z Imager: 204lbs 20psi Spectro: 113lbs 20psi ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_24_0b Watcher: v2_34_0 MCP: v6_3_2 TPM: tpm_v3_3_0 AstroDa: v15_12_1 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: v2_18 SoS: v5_1_4 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A -5.8580 -5.8440 Axial B -5.6850 -5.6770 Axial C 0.9420 0.9420 Trans D -9.9990 -9.9940 Lateral E 10.3505 10.3759 Lateral F 11.9380 11.9380 GALILS Commanded: 4700. -2450. 3000. -7800. 3300. 3000.
