APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday July 3, 2006 (MJD 53920) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Days: Dan Long Night: Viktor Malanushenko Jurek Krzesinski Shannon Watters ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Skience! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was cloudy all night with occasional light showers; we never opened. We took arcs purposely out of focus for Connie and Jim to study. We also finished the sparse-plugged plate test on cart 7; we already have 8 carts plugged and only 1/2 night to use them before shutdown so we don't see a need to replug cart 7. The outside dust counters haven't been working since ~0300Z last night (Sunday). Happy 4th of July! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- No problems with the afternoon check. Note that the imager is warm and in the doghouse prepped for the move to the clean room tomorrow morning. The spectro autofill hoses still have the extenders on them for reaching when the telescope is at zenith. Care needs to be taken when stowing them prior to operation, so they don't get caught on anything. At the end of the night please put the telescope at zenith, with no cartridge or corrector and leave it pinned. Hook up the spectro hoses as usual. Spectro focus was checked and changed, best focus about 13 C. See problems section for details. No early ventilation due to inclement weather. Night: ------ 03:18Z We are running a test for Connie & Jim. They want arcs with the spectrographs out of collimation. 03:19Z Exposure 40131. The first arc is with the collimation set for best focus at 13 C (the way Dan set it up for us this afternoon).
