APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday August 17, 2006 (MJD 53965) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Kaike Pan Night: Howard Brewington Dan Long Support: French Leger ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shakedown ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Despite some blue sky in the late afternoon raising hopes, we lost another night to clouds, humidity, rain, etc, etc. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: PT is back. Things work fine. Got watcher error of exec_boot on both sp1 and sp2. iacked both. photo2 is rebooted since id5 was not avaiable. The pressure of telescope coolant pump circulation is zero after it was switched on. French fixed it. Space on data partition was running low. data for MJD 53829-30, and 53841-43 were removed. Engineering camera mounted. Night: ------ Guider fibers mislabeled at least for the engcam. Didn't see which way they were connected to the guider before disconnecting, so not sure if it is the fibers on the rotator or the fibers on the engcam that are actually mislabeled. Howard's Landru session discourteously vaporized to the login prompt while he was using Firefox. A message window came up saying something about a session being killed and a couple seconds later all windows went away. Fortunately we were not observing at the time. Starting around 07:00Z the 3.5m dewpoint sensor deviated noticeably from the PT dewpoint sensor. The difference was mostly in temperature. Both indicated a dewpoint around 8.5 C, but the 3.5m was showing an air temperature of about 14 C, while the PT air temp was around 11 C. A handheld thermometer indicated the temperature at the 2.5m and PT of between 10.5 and 11.5 C. Since it was mostly cloudy at the time it seems that this cannot be explained by a radiative cooling temperature gradient. When thick clouds rolled back in at 09:00Z obscuring the few stars we had started seeing after about 07:00Z and the satellite showed only more to come, we called it a night. Endnight rejoiced once again easily pleased. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6254 23:58Z 00:17Z 100 O 34.87 39.59 46 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40432, plate 2172 ------- 04:14 40432 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:07Z 58 45 9 330 (NNW) 476 - Mostly Clear 00:37Z 58 47 7 335 (NNW) 420 - Mostly Clear 01:09Z 57 47 7 357 (NNW) 468 - Mostly Clear 01:41Z 55 50 11 348 (NNW) 432 - Mostly Cloudy 02:13Z 55 54 13 358 (NNW) 784 - Mostly Cloudy 03:01Z 55 52 9 313 (NW) 803 - Cloudy 03:34Z 56 53 7 358 (NNW) 786 - Cloudy 04:06Z 55 53 6 337 (NNW) 803 - Light Rain 04:38Z 55 53 7 358 (NNW) 951 - Light Rain 05:10Z 53 49 16 71 (ENE) 392 - Light Rain 05:42Z 52 48 24 71 (ENE) 199 - Cloudy 06:14Z 52 48 17 70 (ENE) 183 - Light Rain 06:47Z 52 47 16 66 (ENE) 246 - Cloudy 07:19Z 56 46 6 356 (NNW) 303 - Cloudy 07:51Z 56 46 5 0 (N) 401 - Mostly Cloudy 08:23Z 56 48 4 12 (NNE) 463 - Mostly Cloudy 08:55Z 56 49 7 33 (NNE) 516 - Cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Enclosure never opened.
