It was a pleasure having you visit. ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Supernova Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Supernova: 82 S from lambda 115 to -122 (not including ramps). Data from lambda -168 to -151 are missing ad4 gangs. We had to do the strip in two runs. SEGUE 1356 N imaged from mu 120 to 129 (not including ramps). Problems: - sn01, sn02, sn05 hung at different times - ad4, id4 became unresponsive during drifts, at different times. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Telescope has been checked. All systems work fine. Spectro Collimation has been done and focusing on expected night temp.= +4.0 C. The PT has been checked. It works good; Biases and Dom Flats have been obtained. Time exposure on SpectroCollimation has been equal 2 sec., i.e. standart. Disk space has been checked and cleaned. Now there is: to /files partition ~ 104 Gb and to /data partition ~ 332 Gb. 23:45Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. Night: ------ We set up for Supernova imaging on 82 S. Viktor and Elena noted yesterday that the interlocks display at the telescope laptop was not updating when stop buttons were on. The interlocks displays in the control room are fine. We will restart the laptop session later, but left it for tonight. 00:38Z - Run 6478: on-telescope bias. The low-level ripple in the bias in z and g in all dewars except 1 is perhaps a little more noticeable, but is only at the level of 1 DN. Maybe we just notice it more in the bright new monitor for column 5. 01:36Z - We are on-sky to do 82 S, waiting for the end of twilight. 01:49Z - Run 6479: 82 S, started drift at lambda 110.7. Nu a little off, at -10.7, but acceptable, and it got better as the drift continued, so Skippy was in spec from the beginning. Rick called to tell us that sn02 had stopped responding, and to reboot it. 02:00Z - Start of science at frame 36, lambda 115. The focus loop had not yet settled in (see below), but the Supernova folks should be able to use the data from the beginning of the strip. 02:05Z - The focus loop had a little trouble converging, but after a few focus nudges, appeared to track well by frame 60. Conditions remained photometric, and the seeing was stable and excellent throughout run 6479. 07:07Z - Node ad4 went down (stopped responding) and showed a blue screen on the monitor. All the r9 gangs after frame 548 stopped going to disk. This corrresponds to lambda -168. 08:23Z - ended the drift at frame 676, lambda -149.0 We called Eric to discuss how best to recover and how endNight might be affected by the lack of ad4 gangs. We then called Rick to see if he could process the section of frames with missing ad4 gangs, or if we would have to back up to where the node failed. He thought he could process the data, although he might have to eliminate one column. He asked us to restart where we ended the drift, with the appropriate overlap. 08:53Z - Run 6480: 82 S again. Started at lambda -153. Skippy and focus good from the beginning. Seeing continues good; weather photometric. 90:09Z - sn05 had to be rebooted. 10:47Z - id4 went unresponsive at lambda -124.5, frame 195. The run 6480 drift was stopped and all crates were rebooted. Since we were so close to the end of the strip, we chose to go on to SEGUE rather than back up for the last two degrees of 82 S. 10:48Z - sn01 went down at the same time. Rebooted. makeRunLog failed for run 6480 with the following message. Presumably this is a result of the id4 hang: im> makeRunLog 54030 6480 filling out runlog /astrolog/54030/runlog-6480.txt for run 6480. I cannot find all your requested files ... searching Error: ipVectorGetFromRegion: row/col out of range 10:54Z - We started run 6481: SEGUE strip 1356N at mu 117.5. Skippy and focus good from the beginning. Seeing was called good by seeingRun, but was variable. 11:04Z - Start of science at frame 25, mu 120. 11:44Z - End of science at frame 86, mu 129. 11:55Z - End of ramp at frame 106, mu 132 12:34Z endNight failed (we thought it would). We stopped and tried verifyImagerFilesOnDisk, but since the files it needed were missing a a result of the node hang-ups, it failed. We reran endNight, telling it to skip the missing files, and it finished.
