APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Monday January 29, 2007 (MJD 54130) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Viktor Malanushenko Justin Crepp (UF) Scott Fleming (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clear skies for the first part of the night, then high clouds moved in and humidity rose. Good data run for ET - All 8 cartridges used; obtained data for 10 fields. We got off to a late start (~50 minutes) because all of the axes on the telescope aborted after the gotoField commandwas issued. Also, we had trouble finding the guiding stars for the first ET field (please refer to problem section for more detail). We put into problem section watcher messages about errors. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems during afternoon checkout, except that the rot axe aborted midway through a test slew. Night: ----- Clear skies 01:30Z - ET cartridge 1, plate 8033 was mounted. It took about 50 minutes to find the guide stars using the fk5 star technique. The offset was around 15" in altitude. 02:20z - 50 minute exposure was taken. 03:19Z - ET cart 2, plate 8018. Used fk5 star to find field. 50 minute exposure taken. 04:33Z - ET cart 6, plate 8016. Guide stars were found first try. 50 minute exposure. 05:39Z - ET cart 9, plate 8017. Guide stars found. 50 minute exposure. 06:47Z - ET cart 3, plate 8024. Guide stars found. 50 minute exposure. 07:53Z - ET cart 2, plate 8018. Used fk5 stars to find field. 50 minute exposure. High clouds started rolling in. 08:57Z - ET cart 5, plate 8025. Guide stars found. 50 minute exposure. Some small cloud cover. 10:01Z - ET cart 8, plate 8021. Guide stars found. 50 minute exposure. Small cloud cover. 11:23Z - ET cart 7, plate 8022. Guide stars found. 2 * 50 minute exposure. Clear skies. endNight finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):No QA Procedures Done (y/n):No UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 42636, plate -9999 ------- 23:27 42636 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:35Z 1 8033 -63.45 -0.0016 55.75 0.0060 129.28 0.0158 0.999920 03:24Z 2 8018 117.80 -0.0010 65.68 0.0031 -79.73 0.0158 1.000000 04:34Z 6 8016 16.69 0.0036 55.88 0.0036 193.95 -0.0013 1.000100 05:41Z 9 8017 7.14 0.0011 62.30 0.0037 186.02 0.0078 1.000050 06:50Z 3 8024 65.13 0.0037 62.01 0.0042 233.38 0.0030 1.000100 07:56Z 2 8018 243.93 -0.0009 57.65 0.0031 88.31 -0.0070 1.000050 08:59Z 5 8025 33.46 0.0004 55.52 0.0035 207.59 -0.0136 0.999980 10:24Z 8 8021 101.28 0.0012 38.48 0.0035 248.58 -0.0115 1.000130 11:24Z 7 8022 113.05 0.0008 47.05 0.0041 -99.50 -0.0187 1.000080 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:35Z 1 8033 0.99992 790 1967 150 -63 55.8 -0.7 -9999 -9999 - 1.4 03:24Z 2 8018 1.00000 0 1265 125 118 65.7 -0.5 -9999 -9999 - 1.6 04:34Z 6 8016 1.00010 -988 521 175 17 55.9 -0.2 -9999 -9999 - 1.6 05:41Z 9 8017 1.00005 -494 913 175 7 62.3 -0.2 -9999 -9999 - 1.4 06:50Z 3 8024 1.00010 -988 505 175 65 62.0 -0.4 -9999 -9999 - 1.3 07:56Z 2 8018 1.00005 -494 924 175 244 57.7 -0.4 -9999 -9999 - 1.4 08:59Z 5 8025 0.99998 198 1503 175 33 55.5 -1.0 -9999 -9999 - 1.3 10:24Z 8 8021 1.00013 -1284 361 200 101 38.5 -1.6 -9999 -9999 - 1.4 11:24Z 7 8022 1.00008 -790 737 200 113 47.0 -1.6 -9999 -9999 - 1.3 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Clear skies for the first part of the night, then some high clouds moved in and the humidity rose. Viktor went down to the telescope and entered several axis init and axis stop commands before the problem was fixed. There was also a problem when we positioned an fk5 star in the field, but found no guide stars. The guide stars were found off by 15" in altitude. 10:28Z We had a very strange problem with the gotoField command after we mounted cart 8 (plate 8021). When Audrey and Justin left the telescope, it was pointed southeast (alt ~38) but when Viktor initiated another gotoField command with a -gflat in the control room, the telescope moved in all axes to a more southeast direction. We fixed it by pointing the telescope back to zenith, issued the gotoField command a few more times, as well as typed in the cart and plates again. The telescope was then back in its correct position.
