APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday February 8, 2007 (MJD 54140) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Dan Long Night: Shannon Watters Elena Malanushenko Steph Snedden by telephone ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We observed 6 plate: three of them are DONE (2698,2558,2591), segcluster160 plate (2675) is observed and wait David's feedback, two of them obtained useful signal (2707, 1845). During observations of segueclaster plate we had the problem with guider. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Kurt's cloud camera was swapped for the new one. There was a crude attempt at matching level and gain to what we saw on Kurt's camera, but no guarantees that they are the same. Tilt of camera was also adjusted to place the camera at the center of the bulls-eye. This should hopefully get us by for the next couple of days until Howard fine tunes it. ad1 was down, rebooted astro crate. See problems section for watcher messages regarding ad1. Spectro focus tweaked to keep it between 6 and 7 C. Details in problems section. LIke the last few days, only the 60 and 75 degree altitude fiducials read on the way up and 45, 60, and 75 on the way down (15 deg not checked). 00:15Z Doors Open, Louvers Open, Fans On 00:45Z Enclosure Open Night: ------ 01:12:11Z Cart 1, plate 2698, 23:31-04:27, seguefaint162 GSOGTF, T=4.1C, relfoc=250, seeing ~1.4", cirrus clouds. 01:43Z Precals 01:51Z Science (1500) 02:19Z Science (1500) 02:46Z Science (1500) 03:14Z Science (1500) 03:30 - weather became to be photometric 03:41Z Science (1500) 04:09Z Science (900) 04:28Z Postcals - recommended PLATE DONE with s/n=52.98 04:41Z Cart 2, plate 2675 04:24-08:48 segcluster160 T=3.7C, relfoc=125, seeing ~1.5" It is clear and photometric. We could not find guider stars on GoToField and using FK5 on fiber 10. Found FK5 on fiber 11. Guider worked good until we disabled some fibers. After that guider stopped to work after each exposure. To fix the problem we stop and start Guider and Monitor, have to gotofiels and -gflad again. We lost around 30 min to solve both problems. 05:18Z Precals All guider stars are in the centers of the fibers but only fiber 7 is disabled itself.
