APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday May 20, 2007 (MJD 54241) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Viktor Malanushenko Observers: Kaike Pan, Audrey Simmons Support: French Leger (by phone) (sorry for waking you up at 2 AM,French :( ). ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The 4th monitor for photometric (the second from the right in the bottom row) needs to be replaced. The usual inital password does not work for Audrey's account on landrue. Jon, cloud you please check on this? we had a dust spike at about 2.2K for about 5 mintues, dust count kept at 1.5K for about one hour. The building stopped at about 1/2 feet away from its destination when we re-opened at 07:40Z due to a interlock problem (see Log). When we closing, we was able to put the enclosure back on without bypass. We finished two legacy plates: 2749 and 2516; collected photons on segue plate 2176. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Monitor 'Photometric #4' work incorrectly. No other problems. Spectro has been adusted to night Temp=+8C.5 with Cartridge 7 mounted. Heavy clouds & close thunderstorms at 00:25Z Nights: ------- 03:00Z cart 3, plate 2600, chunk. FK5 used for stars. 03:20Z Cloudy, efficiency is low, 25%. started a 25-min exposure anyway. The first exposure was declared bad due to low S/N. 04:10Z finished the 2nd exposure. Efficiency was too low for another exposure. We attemped to abort the third exposure due to the low efficency but did endStare without checking abort bottom. All exposures on this plates was declared bad although in a good fraction of integration time of 2nd exposure efficiency was 50%. So we think we will not got any useful data on this plate.Then we decide to move to cartridge 5 because 1) East part of sky seems better; 2) the field is further away from moon; 3)Audrey got one more chance to practice in setting up. 04:30Z cart 5, plate 2749, chunk. SOGTF. at 4:40Z dust count spiked at 2.2K, then back about 1.5K. 04:45Z started the first 20-min exposure. The plate was DONE with four exposures of a total integration time 90 min. 06:20Z close for radar returns and threathening clouds from southweest. 07:40Z reopen. During the opening process, the building stopped at about 1/2 feet away from it's destination. The weather was not too bad, Audrey worked on resuming observations while Kaike called French.Per French's instruction, Kaike moved buiding to its destination by connecting building bypass. It was not clear what interlock failure stoped the buiding. Was the 6 degree interlock? Kaike did moved the telescope up when the building passed the green sensor on the track. But the telescope move just fine? We will try to move the enclosure back without bypass when we closeup. 08:00Z cart 7, plate 2516, chunk. FK5 used for stars. 08:30Z started the first 20-min exposure. The plate was DONE with three exposures (a total integration time of 55 min), and combined with signal got on mjd 54240. MJD b1 r1 b2 r2 54240 9.8 5.9 9.6 9.2 54241 16.4 10.3 15.3 13.5 -------------------------- total 26.2 16.2 24.9 22.7 09:30Z cart 6, plate 2176 (segue). SOGTF. 1 20-min, 1 25-min exposure on this plate. Sos thraw out warning messages about scatted light and bad sky residuals on r1 and r2. But apoplotsky plots looks okay. 11:03Z endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6832 22:59Z 23:18Z 100 O -67.88 -62.95 47 bias ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 44977, plate -9999 ------- 22:49 44977 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44978, plate 2516 ------- 23:04 44978 10.0 flat 23:07 44979 2.0 arc 23:25 44980 3.0 arc 23:27 44981 3.0 arc ----- sequence 44982, plate -9999 ------- 00:58 44982 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44983, plate -9999 ------- 01:37 44983 0.0 bias ----- sequence 44984, plate 2600 ------- 03:18 44984 10.0 flat 03:21 44985 2.0 arc 03:50 44986 1500.0 target 04:13 44987 1202.0 target 04:16 44988 15.0 target ----- sequence 44989, plate 2749 ------- 21.5 15.1 24.7 20.6 04:40 44989 10.0 flat 04:43 44990 2.0 arc 05:06 44991 1200.0 target 05:29 44992 1201.0 target 05:57 44993 1502.0 target 06:25 44994 1501.0 target ----- sequence 44995, plate 2516 ------- 16.4 10.3 15.3 13.5 08:25 44995 10.0 flat 08:27 44996 2.0 arc 08:51 44997 1201.0 target 09:14 44998 1200.0 target 09:32 44999 902.0 target ----- sequence 45000, plate 2176 ------- 6.2 5.0 7.6 6.0 09:45 45000 10.0 flat 09:47 45001 2.0 arc 10:11 45002 1201.0 target 10:38 45003 1501.0 target 10:41 45004 10.0 flat 10:44 45005 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:34Z 3 2600 14.90 -0.0003 73.90 0.0047 193.03 0.0270 1.000250 05:02Z 5 2749 35.64 -0.0007 67.95 0.0042 210.27 -0.0087 1.000080 08:52Z 7 2516 -59.42 -0.0019 54.98 0.0016 132.30 -0.0291 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:39Z 7 0 1.00000 0 1257 0 121 30.0 13.1 10 201 03:34Z 3 2600 1.00025 -2469 -888 30 15 73.9 9.6 7 182 -- 1.1 05:02Z 5 2749 1.00008 -790 511 30 36 67.9 9.5 8 183 -- 1.1 08:52Z 7 2516 1.00000 0 1250 85 -59 55.0 7.5 14 150 --- 1.7 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:00Z 62 31 11 205 (SSW) 494 - cloudy 22:33Z 64 36 13 256 (WSW) 601 - 23:04Z 57 29 18 268 (W) 507 - 23:35Z 51 35 8 8 (N) 1001 - 00:05Z 52 35 2 87 (E) 905 - 00:37Z 59 31 11 271 (W) 737 - 01:25Z 56 32 14 212 (SSW) 680 - 01:57Z 53 31 10 237 (WSW) 719 - 02:29Z 50 35 9 233 (SW) 1013 - 03:01Z 50 35 5 203 (SSW) 1137 - 03:33Z 49 36 6 185 (S) 1273 - cloudy 04:06Z 49 35 5 175 (S) 1458 - partly cloudy 04:38Z 49 35 7 187 (S) 1869 - 05:10Z 47 36 4 179 (S) 1600 - 05:41Z 49 34 6 204 (SSW) 925 - partly cloudy 06:14Z 49 33 9 182 (S) 821 - cloudy 06:46Z 49 33 13 206 (SSW) 670 - cloudy 07:18Z 48 33 8 206 (SSW) 548 - cloudy 07:50Z 45 34 8 176 (S) 617 - partly cloudy 08:23Z 46 33 12 175 (S) 532 - partly cloudy 08:55Z 45 33 10 173 (S) 543 - 09:26Z 46 33 11 158 (SSE) 534 - partly cloudy 09:59Z 46 33 9 177 (S) 501 - partly cloudy 10:31Z 47 35 11 169 (S) 633 - 11:04Z 46 34 9 179 (S) 668 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 1:30Z - Began ventilation.
