APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday June 26, 2007 (MJD 54278) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Dan Oravetz Steph Snedden Suvrath Mahadevan (UF) Justin Crepp (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- ET Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We opened to photometric skies and were able to get one 50-minute exposure on Cartridge 1 before the weather stopped cooperating. Clouds, high winds, high dust counts and nearby radar returns kept us closed the rest of the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Late Afternoon: -------------- Checkout went smoothly. Everything is working normally. No problems to report. Night: ----- 07:56Z - Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans and blowers on. 08:25Z - Enclosure off. Cartridge 1, plate E8026. Needed an fk5 to acquire the field. 03:21Z - 50-minute exposure (Data). Seeing: 1.2" - 1.5". Cartridge 8, plate E8021. Needed an fk5 to acquire the field. 04:25Z - 50-minute exposure (Data). We lost guide stars almost immediately because some patchy clouds moved in from the north and northeast. This exposure was aborted because the wind gusts increased to over 40 mph and the 1.0 um dust count rose to over 5000 counts very suddenly causing us to stow the telescope and close the flat-field petals. 04:35Z - Telescope moved to stow position with flat-field petals closed. We're in a position where we can close quickly if necessary, but we're waiting to see if this outflow boundary from the storm to the east will pass through as quickly and abruptly as it came in. The sky is still mostly clear with no obvious threat of rain. 04:52Z - Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans and blowers off. The wind gusts are still above 40 mph, the 1.0 um dust count is still above 4000 counts and the humidity has been rising steadily to above 70%, so we closed. High winds the rest of the night even though the sky cleared. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6865 01:46Z 01:48Z 100 O 10.58 11.10 17 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y (checked bias) UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 45579, plate -9999 ------- 00:37 45579 0.0 bias 00:50 45580 0.0 bias ----- sequence 45581, plate 8026 ------- 01:26 45581 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:20Z 1 8026 203.34 -0.0029 66.35 0.0056 34.13 -0.0051 1.000300 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:20Z 1 8026 1.00030 -2963 -1539 -225 203 66.3 20.7 2 272 ---- 1.2" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:31Z 78 25 13 267 (W) 817 - Clear 00:03Z 79 26 13 267 (W) 828 - Clear 00:35Z 76 23 8 274 (W) 840 - Clear 01:07Z 76 24 9 257 (WSW) 787 - Clear 01:39Z 73 21 4 268 (W) 806 - Clear 02:09Z 71 19 6 266 (W) 815 - Clear 02:40Z 70 18 3 276 (W) 795 - Clear 03:11Z 69 18 3 268 (W) 753 - Clear 03:41Z 70 18 0 253 (WSW) 807 - Clear 04:11Z 71 19 3 187 (S) 827 - Partly cloudy 04:42Z 56 44 21 68 (ENE) 5851 - Partly cloudy 05:12Z 54 46 26 68 (ENE) 3656 - Partly cloudy 05:42Z 55 47 17 75 (ENE) 3539 - Partly cloudy 06:13Z 56 46 1 116 (ESE) 3651 - Mostly cloudy 06:44Z 63 37 14 68 (ENE) 2197 - Clouds 07:14Z 55 46 34 66 (ENE) 2723 - Clouds 07:46Z 54 42 37 73 (ENE) 1864 - Mostly clear 08:17Z 54 40 41 56 (NE) 1006 - Clear 08:47Z 52 40 35 67 (ENE) 854 - Clear 09:17Z 49 41 36 60 (ENE) 607 - Clear 09:47Z 50 40 27 61 (ENE) 528 - Clear ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 07:56Z - Began ventilation.
