APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday August 7, 2007 (MJD 54320) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dayshift: Howard Brewington Observers: Dmitry Bizyaev Shannon Watters Scott Fleming (UF) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Spectro Monthly Checkout ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We began the night waiting for the spectrographs to cool so we could do the spectro monthly checkout but camera 4 never cooled to its operating temperature (see log). We did some work with the MSP image calibrator (see log). Since we were dead in the water we let Scott Fleming (ET) into the enclosure to work on their new equipment. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ----------- I noticed during the checkout that the PT camera is making an atypical noise; it sounds like a bird. I told French, he asked that I check the camera's temp. The results are below and seem fine: mt> cc 0 tcheck CAMERA 0 LN2 TEMP NOMINAL 77 K MEASURED 130 K CCD TEMP DAC SET AT 115 = -0.52 V = -90 C MEASURED -88 C mt> Night: ----------- 03:00Z Telescope handed over to us. We're waiting for sp1 to cool so we can start the spectro monthly checkout. 05:30Z Using the hand paddle we were able to get the MSP moving in the stageX direction under computer control but the lamp is burned out. 06:30Z sp1 camera 4 hasn't cooled down to operating temperature. It's been sitting at -83 to -84C with an ln2 temp of 99K for a few hours even after we forced the ln2 fill (cc stopfillseq; cc startfillseq) 4 times. We suspect a vacuum problem but opted not to wake French because it would take most of the night to warm the camera anyway. 06:40Z Since we can't do anything with the telescope we let Scott Fleming (UF) in the enclosure so the can run some tests on their new equipment. 07:00Z When Scott tried to pull the ET fibers up through the enclosure floor they slid out of their "holder" and fell into the cone so we had to fish them out. endNight finished ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6878 21:24Z 21:49Z 100 O -13.76 -7.54 56 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 45605, plate -9999 ------- 03:01 45605 0.0 bias 03:08 45606 0.0 bias 03:11 45607 0.0 bias 03:13 45608 0.0 bias 03:15 45609 0.0 bias 03:18 45610 0.0 bias 03:20 45611 0.0 bias 03:22 45612 0.0 bias 03:25 45613 0.0 bias 03:27 45614 0.0 bias 03:29 45615 0.0 bias ----- sequence 45616, plate 2623 ------- 03:38 45616 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 21:27Z 66 53 12 209 (SSW) 233 - 22:00Z 65 53 12 232 (SW) 266 - 22:30Z 64 53 13 200 (SSW) 280 - 23:04Z 61 52 10 215 (SW) 292 - 23:36Z 62 52 17 221 (SW) 283 - 00:13Z 61 52 9 208 (SSW) 283 - 00:45Z 61 53 11 192 (SSW) 308 - 01:17Z 59 52 13 244 (WSW) 322 - 01:49Z 59 50 10 254 (WSW) 273 - 02:21Z 58 51 12 207 (SSW) 284 - 02:53Z 58 50 12 211 (SSW) 288 - 03:22Z 57 50 16 215 (SW) 318 - 03:54Z 57 51 7 270 (W) 295 - 04:26Z 57 50 9 270 (W) 395 - 04:58Z 57 50 9 269 (W) 417 - 05:30Z 57 51 7 275 (W) 400 - 06:02Z 56 50 6 285 (WNW) 402 - 06:32Z 55 51 7 285 (WNW) 400 - 07:03Z 56 50 12 301 (WNW) 378 - 07:33Z 55 50 9 304 (NW) 336 - 08:03Z 56 50 7 274 (W) 368 - 08:33Z 56 50 9 279 (W) 317 - 09:03Z 56 50 6 270 (W) 372 - 09:33Z 56 49 7 269 (W) 341 - 10:07Z 56 49 9 246 (WSW) 360 - 10:40Z 56 48 10 250 (WSW) 327 - 11:12Z 56 48 7 253 (WSW) 303 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Telescope stowed at 30 degrees with cart 8 mounted and the spectro auto-fill lines connected. 11:15Z Spectro dewar: 165.3 lbs 11:15Z Imager dewar: 201.5 lbs ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_37_0 Watcher: v2_36_0 MCP: v6_4_0 TPM: tpm_v3_5_0 AstroDa: v15_13_1 TCC: TCC 2.9.1 2007-06-21 sdssProcedures: v2_35 SoS: v5_1_8 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- ---=== PROBLEMS IN DETAIL ===---
