Yet, we captured some signal on plates: 2824 and 2840. We tried four "test" pointing models but had to return to the old model; see log. We had a problem with the malnipulator arm again; see log. We did open the DIMM because of the high winds. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All equipment are checked and work properly. Spectro collimation set for ~4C. Diskspace is 224G on /data and 211G on /file. Ventilation is started at 23:15Z. Night: ----- 23:54Z Sunset 23:55Z Pulled enclosure, topped off spectro dewars, checked top/bottom balance, did a test slew, and checked for fiducial errors. 00:23Z Cart 03, plated 2309 (segBright). During the afternoon, Steph created four new TELMOD.DAT files, vis., TELMODA.DAT, TELMODB.DAT, TELMODC.DAT, and TELMODD.DAT. These "test" pointing models contained various IE and IA values, which were emailed to Steph from Dan Long. Thanks Dan! All of the above files were briefly installed with 'set block telmod /in=tdat:TELMOD' as we searched for guide stars with each file. It turned out that the C-version produced an Fk5 star but needed a small additional offset to center the guide stars (see Offsets Section). Although I copied and pasted the entire content of the TELMOD files above to the problems section, the adjusted values are listed below. We could not find the field nor an Fk5. With spiralPattern, we were able to find a bright star; however, guide stars were not located after a sticky and goToField. We also had lots of clouds during the setup on this field but believe we were pointing between some of these clouds as we tried to find the guide stars. So, we decided to return to the old pointing model with last night's offsets (A=15, D=35). Although we had to do a sprialPattern, we were able to find the Fk5 and then the guide stars. We completed one exposure; unfortunately, it was bad. 03:50Z We closed because of clouds and high wind, but we continued to ventilate. 04:50Z Pulled enclosure as clouds cleared and wind speed decreased. As we mounted cart 05, we had a problem with the malnipulator arm, i.e., it would move downward with out problems but would not move up. Steph turned off the logic control board and the arm worked okay. 04:55Z Cart 05, plate 2878 (chunk 171). This field had a low altitude to the west, and clouds were in our way. So, we decided to switch to cart 07 since cart 05 was about to expire. 05:09Z Cart 07, plate 2840 (Marvels). The field was finally found by using last night's offsets after trying sprialPattern. We did ten 10-second exposures before humidity became a problem and we had to close again.
