APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday February 17, 2008 (MJD 54514) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Elena Malanushenko swatters (afternoon) Jon Brinkman (call) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was clear and the seeing was good 1.2-1.5" at the beginning but seeing was variable and large up to 3.0" after midnight. The Moon has illumination ~90% and it was up for all night. We observed two segue bright plates 2939 and 2394. The sos results were not useful and gave us not acceptable (s/n)^2 values. We observed those plates 10 times by 15 min exposure. We think they might be done and ask BY to check them. Also obtained good signal on plate 2758 (chunk). There was a watcher warning that ad2 was dead. Rebooted the astro crate and got persistent watcher error: VME Nodes: ad2: "dsc W monInternal Monitor task internal problem: Monitor log not initialized: 2008-02-18 04:54:28Z" (see problems). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- All systems checked and *were* working. At the end of the imager bias there was a watcher warning that ad2 was dead (see problems). Spectro focus set for ~0.3C Night: ----- 01:00Z Opened Clear, Moon is 90%. Cart 4 is mounted. Used FK5 to find guider stars. Each exposure has (s/n)^2<2 in b2 camera and should be declared as bad. Total (s/n)^2 for all observed exposures is 9.4. We expect this plate is done but ask BY's evaluation. Jon continued to work with ad imager problem. We hard rebooted astro crate after his request and he reported that everything is ok. But we still have watcher complain related with imager: VME Nodes: ad2: dsc W monInternal Monitor task internal problem: Monitor log not initialized (dsc_W_monInternal Monitor task internal problem: Monitor log not initialized : 2008-02-18 04:54:28Z) Cart 6, plate 2394 segueBright. We ask BY to check this observations to see if the plate is done. 07-08Z, right after midnight the seeing was highly variable in range 1.5-2.5", sometime up to 3.0" and the efficiency was dropped to 40-50%.
