APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday April 4, 2008 (MJD 54561) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dan Oravetz (observer) Steph Snedden (observer) Dmitry Bizyaev (dayshift) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science, of course. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- A very productive night. Six plates declared done, and good signal on two others. DanO rocked and Steph rolled (the cart). Plates done: 1833 - Lagacy 2954 - Legacy 2874 - SEGUE faint 2462 - SEGUE faint 2960 - BAOTest 2708 - SEGUE faint Skies varied from clear to partly cloudy. Note that the zenith locking pin was sometimes difficult to disengage, and sometimes easy. It was always easy to engage. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- ntp_check ok iccSoundOff ok imager bias ok Cartridge 5 mounted spectro bias ok idlspec2d> apo_plotbias, 5589 Filename 02% 05% 10% 50% 90% 95% 98% ------------------- ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------ sdR-b1-00051589.fit -5.9 -3.7 -2.6 1.8 7.3 8.4 10.6 sdR-b2-00051589.fit -8.4 -6.2 -4.7 1.2 7.4 8.6 11.0 sdR-r1-00051589.fit -7.6 -5.4 -4.2 1.2 6.8 8.8 9.9 sdR-r2-00051589.fit -8.1 -6.0 -4.9 1.0 6.3 7.7 9.8 Collimation with cartridge 5 should be good for ambient +3C. All calibration lamps, including all 4 Ne lamps worked well. 00:14Z doors and louvers opened, started ventilation Night: ------ 01:30Z Opened to clear skies for spectroscopy 01:45Z - Cartridge 5, plate 2960 - BAOTest ------------------------------------------ Used an FK5 in bright twilight to find the field, then waited for twilight to deepen. 02:34Z - Started a 25 minute science exposure. Although we have not reached a (S/N)^2 of 30 in any channel, this plate has been observed in good conditions for six nights. It should really have enough signal and we will declare it done. If it turns out not to be, it can always be replugged. 03:09Z - Cartridge 3, plate 2874 - SEGUE faint ---------------------------------------------- Needed an FK5 with the previous offsets still in. Declared the plate done with two exposures totaling 2400 s, after adding in previous hard-earned signal. 04:20Z - Cartridge 8, plate 2708 - SEGUE faint ---------------------------------------------- GSOGTF Seeing blew up midway through the sequences, but we were still able to get enough signal to decalre the plate done. We did three exposures totaling 5700 s. 06:32Z - Cartridge 6, plate 2920 - SEGUE faint ---------------------------------------------- GSOGTF Took two exposures totaling 3000 s. This plate is not yet done. 07:50Z - Cartridge 4, plate 2462 - SEGUE faint ---------------------------------------------- Needed an FK5, which was at the edge of fiber 10 Declared this plate done with a two exposures totaling 3000 s (the plate had signal from a previous night). 09:08Z - Cartridge 2, plate 2954 - Legacy chunk 186 --------------------------------------------------- Needed a spiralPattern to find the FK5. This plate was declared done in three exposures totaling 2700 s. 10:24Z - Cartridge 1, plate 1833 - Legacy chunk 94 -------------------------------------------------- GSOGTF This plate was declared done in two exposures totaling 2100s, when added to previously obtained signal. 11:19Z - Cartridge 9, plate 1834 - Legacy chunk 94 -------------------------------------------------- GSOGTF One 900s exposure taken as morning twilight approached. The plate is not yet done. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7422 23:03Z 23:32Z 100 O -111.45 -104.25 62 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 51590, plate 2960 ------- See the SoS 23:41 51590 10.0 flat archive for S/N 23:44 51591 2.0 arc 23:50 51592 3.0 arc 23:53 51593 3.0 arc ----- sequence 51594, plate -9999 ------- 01:00 51594 0.0 bias ----- sequence 51595, plate 2960 ------- 02:08 51595 10.0 flat 02:11 51596 2.0 arc 02:24 51597 10.0 flat 02:27 51598 2.0 arc 03:00 51599 1500.0 target ----- sequence 51600, plate 2874 ------- 03:20 51600 10.0 flat 03:22 51601 2.0 arc 03:52 51602 1501.0 target 04:10 51603 902.0 target 04:13 51604 10.0 flat 04:16 51605 2.0 arc ----- sequence 51606, plate 2708 ------- 04:30 51606 10.0 flat 04:32 51607 2.0 arc 05:01 51608 1500.0 target 05:29 51609 1501.0 target 05:57 51610 1500.0 target 06:20 51611 1201.0 target 06:23 51612 10.0 flat 06:25 51613 2.0 arc ----- sequence 51614, plate 2920 ------- 06:39 51614 10.0 flat 06:41 51615 2.0 arc 07:10 51616 1500.0 target 07:38 51617 1500.0 target 07:41 51618 10.0 flat 07:43 51619 2.0 arc ----- sequence 51620, plate 2462 ------- 07:58 51620 10.0 flat 08:00 51621 2.0 arc 08:29 51622 1500.0 target 08:57 51623 1500.0 target 09:01 51624 10.0 flat 09:03 51625 2.0 arc ----- sequence 51626, plate 2954 ------- 09:21 51626 10.0 flat 09:24 51627 2.0 arc 09:42 51628 900.0 target 10:00 51629 900.0 target 10:18 51630 901.0 target ----- sequence 51631, plate 1833 ------- 10:29 51631 10.0 flat 10:32 51632 2.0 arc 10:51 51633 900.0 target 11:14 51634 1202.0 target ----- sequence 51635, plate 1834 ------- 11:42 51635 900.0 target 11:45 51636 10.0 flat 11:47 51637 2.0 arc 12:07 51638 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:17Z 5 2960 87.65 0.0034 83.01 0.0050 263.23 0.0425 1.000000 03:30Z 3 2874 36.80 0.0014 37.39 0.0019 210.99 0.0437 0.999920 04:32Z 8 2708 14.04 -0.0004 39.85 0.0025 192.26 0.0222 0.999960 06:39Z 6 2920 2.13 0.0003 57.18 0.0032 181.76 0.0131 1.000020 07:56Z 4 2462 169.45 0.0069 65.88 0.0019 -16.15 0.0217 0.999920 09:19Z 2 2954 8.94 -0.0020 58.57 0.0035 187.45 0.0174 0.999990 10:30Z 1 1833 -34.30 -0.0012 58.29 0.0027 151.52 0.0060 0.999990 11:30Z 9 1834 -53.16 -0.0005 50.30 0.0017 137.43 0.0173 0.999990 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:17Z 5 2960 1.00000 0 1316 200 88 83.0 3.4 3 268 -- 1.1" 03:30Z 3 2874 0.99992 790 1940 60 37 37.4 2.1 3 251 -- 1.5 04:32Z 8 2708 0.99996 395 1604 60 14 39.8 2.8 10 204 -- 1.2 06:39Z 6 2920 1.00002 -198 1071 75 2 57.2 2.7 13 192 -- 1.2 07:55Z 4 2462 0.99992 790 1868 75 169 65.9 2.3 13 192 -- 1.2 09:19Z 2 2954 0.99999 99 1288 50 9 58.6 2.3 8 184 -- 1.2 10:30Z 1 1833 0.99999 99 1313 75 -34 58.3 2.4 10 204 -- 1.6 11:30Z 9 1834 0.99999 99 1262 0 -53 50.3 2.3 12 204 -- 1.1 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:26Z 45 12 9 222 (SW) 1896 - clear 23:56Z 41 9 5 275 (W) 1759 - ' 00:26Z 42 7 4 265 (W) 1843 - ' 01:00Z 42 7 1 272 (W) 1795 - ' 01:48Z 38 8 8 304 (NW) 1872 - ' 02:18Z 38 8 5 300 (WNW) 1829 - mostly clear 02:51Z 38 5 4 263 (W) 1840 - partly cloudy 03:23Z 36 9 4 261 (W) 1838 - ' 03:53Z 37 8 6 220 (SW) 1843 - ' 04:24Z 37 8 9 192 (SSW) 1828 - ' 04:56Z 37 11 10 201 (SSW) 1819 - clear 05:27Z 37 11 11 179 (S) 1826 - ' 05:57Z 36 13 11 181 (S) 2102 - partly cloudy 06:28Z 36 13 11 187 (S) 2249 - clear 06:59Z 36 13 13 183 (S) 2213 - ' 07:29Z 36 14 12 187 (S) 2816 - ' 08:01Z 36 15 8 193 (SSW) 3294 - ' 08:34Z 36 13 12 206 (SSW) 2569 - ' 09:04Z 36 12 7 187 (S) 2171 - partly cloudy 09:36Z 36 10 8 180 (S) 1999 - ' 10:08Z 36 10 10 201 (SSW) 1868 - ' 10:39Z 36 10 9 207 (SSW) 1958 - ' 11:09Z 36 10 13 228 (SW) 1934 - ' 11:42Z 35 10 11 219 (SW) 1956 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:14Z - Began ventilation.
