APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday May 23, 2008 (MJD 54610) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Elena Malanushenko Audrey Simmons (swing) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Shake Down. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We obtained a new pointing model last night. Humidity was 60-70% and we accumulated 20K dust hours. Could you please check the morror. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Since the engineering camera was already mounted and working, I decided not to take it off and possibly create more problems. Therefore, I was not able to complete spectro collimation for tonight. 00:05Z - The spectral numbers are: sp1> 1109 1302 1402 sp2> 2839 2193 2375 Did not start ventilating an hour before sunset because of the high dust count (~5500). Night: ------ We have dust 5-6K and humidity up 65-70%. We can be opned only 3 hours. We desided to wait a little to see if the humidity or dust may decrease. 05:10Z started ventilation. Humidity 61%, T=5.6C, Diff=6.9, dust 5K, integrated dust is 63K. 06:00Z - enclosure is off. We observed the pointing model. The first attamption was not good as the seeing was very bad, about 3". FWHM of star was 9-10". Even this seeing was ok, dopterr could not find the stars and we stopped the program. We were waiting a little and started over. Adjusted the foc one more time and observed pointing again. The initial seeing was 4.5-5." and after we finished it was 8.25, 7.20. dopterr did not have any problem to find stars now. During the observations the dust were the same 4.5-4.8 but humidity vary from 60% to 70%. The time when we could exposure the telescope with hight dust and high humidity. We obtained 20K dust-hours by the end of observations and closed the enclosure at 9:30. We calculated the pointing results and found out they are ok, in spec. *** * getdat [tcc.pterr]PTERR_20080524.DAT;2 Read 72 data points * fix * use ie ia pzz1 an aw ca * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE -15.249 -37.73 0.836 2 IA +0.528 -141.79 1.362 3 PZZ1 -0.267 -144.61 1.030 4 AN +0.257 +3.33 0.334 5 AW -1.010 -8.01 0.334 6 CA +18.868 +38.94 0.950 Sky RMS = 2.46 Popn SD = 2.57 * use * fit coeff change value sigma 1 IE -0.011 -37.75 0.836 2 IA -0.008 -141.80 1.362 3 PZZ1 -0.001 -144.61 1.030 4 AN +0.000 +3.33 0.334 5 AW +0.000 -8.01 0.334 6 CA +0.013 +38.95 0.951 Sky RMS = 2.46 Popn SD = 2.57 set block telmod /in=tdat:telmod 0 12 : Cmd="set block telmod /in=tdat:telmod" 0 0 I Modu="exe_BrdTelPos"; Text="114050 packets sent successfully" We could not open telescope to check the pointing with small model, but desided to declare new model as current. endNight is finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 52908, plate -9999 ------- 23:57 52908 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:45Z 47 34 16 273 (W) 5678 - 02:19Z 41 33 3 317 (NW) 4643 - 02:51Z 41 32 5 266 (W) 5325 - 03:23Z 41 31 5 266 (W) 5377 - 03:55Z 42 30 9 267 (W) 5966 - 04:27Z 43 29 8 269 (W) 5366 - 05:00Z 42 29 11 257 (WSW) 4966 - 05:32Z 40 29 8 262 (W) 5062 - 06:04Z 41 29 10 263 (W) 4930 - 06:36Z 43 27 22 246 (WSW) 4109 - 07:08Z 40 29 15 257 (WSW) 4618 - 07:40Z 41 28 21 267 (W) 4238 - 08:12Z 40 29 10 261 (W) 4622 - 08:45Z 39 30 9 259 (W) 4760 - 09:17Z 39 30 11 266 (W) 4738 - 09:49Z 39 30 14 271 (W) 4580 - 10:21Z 38 31 16 270 (W) 4794 - 10:53Z 39 31 16 264 (W) 4712 - 11:25Z 38 32 15 263 (W) 4652 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 5:10Z Began ventilation.
