APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday September 6, 2008 (MJD 54716) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Dmitry Bizyaev Steph Snedden Visitors: Jean McKeever (UW) Connie Rockosi (UCO Lick) Jim Gunn (PU) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Flat field petal motor continues to run on. The 6:00 petal failed to open on one exposure. This needs repair on a Sunday, I'm afraid. We took several exposures on two SEGUE plates, but neither are done yet. Humidity got us toward the end of the night. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Afternoon checkout had a few glitches. We lost cloud camera communications at the end of last night, and when we tried to restart today, we got no images transferred. We guess the problem started with the Apache server. Today, the weather status was down for a while as well, but apparently came back on its own. However, the cloud camera was still down. Here is the process info: IRSC is running. Or should be. started at Sun Sep 7 02:38:48 2008 Last few images were: Processes are: PID PPID USER S %CPU %MEM TIME CMD 7701 7698 irsc Z 0.0 0.0 00:00:00 [python] 17682 1 apache S 0.0 0.0 00:00:00 irscrun /home/irsc /data/home/irsc/data /home/irsc/var/IRSC_RUNNING There were processes, but no images. We got hold of Jon on the road, and after he reached his destination, he fixed a permissions problem related to installation of new drivers. This got the cloud camera going again. The flat field petal is continuing to run on after the petal is opened. It is the one in the 6:00 position when facing the telescope. Night: ----- 02:51Z Clouds cleared enough to start collecting data on Cartridge 4, plate 3137 - SEGUE ------------------------------- Guide stars on goToField. Took four exposures totaling 6900s, fighting clouds the whole time. We made progress, but the plate is still not done. After Connie looked at the first night's data on this plate, we concluded that we should continue to use the SEGUE faint stopping criterion of (S/N)^2 >= 50 in both red and blue cameras. 05:37Z - Cartridge 1, plate 3131 - SEGUE ---------------------------------------- Needed an FK5, but it was just off the edge of the fiber. 08:19Z - Flat field petal refused to open, ruining one exposure before we noticed the Watcher error message. Sure enough, the motor was running on. We took the downtime opportunity to fill the spectrographs. We took four exposures totaling 6000s, but the plate is not yet done. 09:01Z - The skies became photometric. We mounted the imager. The humidity went over the closure limit. We unmounted the imager. We closed. 10:45Z endNight rejoiced ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 02:30 54507 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54508, plate 3137 ------- 02:53 54508 10.0 flat 02:56 54509 2.0 arc 03:28 54510 1500.0 target 04:01 54511 1803.0 target 04:35 54512 1800.0 target 04:38 54513 10.0 flat 04:40 54514 2.0 arc 05:20 54515 1804.0 target 05:24 54516 10.0 flat 05:26 54517 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54518, plate 3131 ------- 05:52 54518 10.0 flat 05:54 54519 2.0 arc 06:24 54520 1500.0 target 06:53 54521 1500.0 target 07:21 54522 1500.0 target 07:24 54523 10.0 flat 07:27 54524 2.0 arc 07:58 54525 1500.0 target 08:40 54526 10.0 flat 08:42 54527 2.0 arc 09:12 54528 1501.0 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:50Z 4 3137 28.32 -0.0005 39.72 0.0004 204.10 0.0223 1.000000 05:58Z 1 3131 60.91 0.0054 59.41 0.0026 229.46 0.0068 1.000210 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 02:50Z 4 3137 1.00000 1 1218 0 28 39.7 15.4 1 232 -- 1.3" 05:58Z 1 3131 1.00021 -2073 -652 -90 61 59.4 14.6 14 177 -- 1.2 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:15Z 64 47 4 226 (SW) 815 - mostly clear 00:45Z 62 46 7 261 (W) 775 - ' 01:15Z 59 48 2 246 (WSW) 768 - ' 01:45Z 58 46 2 216 (SW) 849 - ' 02:15Z 59 45 1 234 (SW) 859 - ' 02:46Z 59 45 1 222 (SW) 831 - ' 03:18Z 59 43 1 210 (SSW) 843 - ' 03:50Z 58 42 10 162 (SSE) 957 - ' 04:21Z 58 38 14 149 (SSE) 762 - ' 04:52Z 57 37 12 151 (SSE) 742 - ' 05:22Z 57 36 11 169 (S) 778 - ' 05:55Z 57 36 14 169 (S) 817 - ' 06:25Z 57 37 9 177 (S) 905 - ' 06:57Z 56 37 14 150 (SSE) 865 - ' 07:27Z 55 40 13 151 (SSE) 1022 - ' 07:59Z 54 43 12 164 (SSE) 1114 - ' 08:30Z 54 44 14 157 (SSE) 1266 - ' 09:00Z 54 46 14 141 (SE) 1371 - ' 09:30Z 53 47 9 166 (SSE) 1401 - ' 10:00Z 52 48 6 169 (S) 1339 - clear 10:32Z 52 48 6 173 (S) 1325 - ' ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:45Z - started ventilation 01:15Z - opened enclosure 10:01Z - Stopped ventilation and closed enclosure Stowed at 30 deg. alt with cartridge 6 mounted.
