APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday September 16, 2008 (MJD 54726) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Elena Malanushenko (observer) Viktor Malanushenko (observer) Scott Fleming - marvels Connie Rockosi ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! MARVELS ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Clear sky up to midnight, and mostly cloudy after midnight by the morning. Marvels observations. Obtained useful signal on plates: 3019, 3032, 3017, 3030, 3031 SOS could not reduce marvels calibration data for both double and single plates as map file is not availble to SOS. Double marvels-pre plates had a few guider stars only. Home and relax are done. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- All telescope systems are checked. We did not do spectro collimation as marvel plate has been mounted and prepared for observations. We did not do imager bias as Connie was working with it. Made Home and Relax of Mirrors as part of shakeDown. Night: ------ 00:30 Ventillation is started 01:15 Enclosure is off We run command "sp1>gGuider off" to use the previous version of guider centroid program. Cart 2, plate 3019, marvels_pre201, double plate Field 0(A) Used FK5 to find the guider stars for A-field. Guider could measure only stars in fibers #3,#9, and $10 from total 6 availble. preCalibs, f=54578, 54579 The calibration exposures of this marvel plate were not reduced by SOS because of plate's map was not availble. Just to try, we loaded single plate 3032 number (cart 8) instead of double virtually and took another calibrations, f=54580, 54581. It has not been reduced also. So, we proceed with observations without SOS feedback. During our calibration Guider lost two from tree guider stars and we need to start over from gotoField. Found all tree stars and continue. 03:13 preCalibs, f=54584, 54585 03:23, 03:26, 03:29, 03:33, 03:35 5 science with 7 sec exposures 03:38, 03:42, 03:45, 03:48, 03:52 5 science with 12 sec exposures 05:55 postCalib We finish observations of A-field, but wait for Scott's evaluation to declare it done. Still need to observe field B. 04:09 Cart 8 plate 3032, jun08b marvels commi, FSonGTF. T~ 9C, seeing is ~1.3-1.5" Marvel software for observations of Marvels-post plate did not work and we need to wait while Scott could fix the problem. By this time the plate is expired. Cart 7, plate 3017 , Marvels-Pre plate. Used FK5 There was wrong cart number in the plate map which produced the error to go to field. We found out that it should be cart 3, loaded cart 3 plate 3017 and field "0", and it worked for us. Similar to Cart. 2 observations, we could use only three fibers for guiding. 05:59Z preCalibs 06:11Z 5 exp by 7 sec. 06:28Z 5 exp by 12 sec. postCalibs Field A of this plate is done but we wait for Scott's verification. We still need to observe Field B. 06:58 Cart 5, plate 3030 , jun08b Marvels commi , GSonGTF Marvel's team observations. 07:02 - 08:42 : two exposures by 40 min. 08:49 Cart 3, plate 3031 , GSonGTF 08:51 - one exp. by 40 min, then the clouds became more strong, we start to observe and stopped several times. Marvel's team observations. During very low signal guider stopped several times with error message about "too long integer". Finally guider could not operate and I passed the operation to Viktor. The error message is in problem session. endNight is finished. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 54576, plate -9999 ------- 23:14 54576 0.0 bias 00:07 54577 0.0 bias ----- sequence 54578, plate 3019 ------- 02:23 54578 10.0 flat 02:25 54579 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54580, plate 3032 ------- 02:32 54580 10.0 flat 02:34 54581 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54582, plate 3019 ------- 02:41 54582 8.0 target 02:44 54583 8.0 target 03:15 54584 10.0 flat 03:18 54585 2.0 arc 03:25 54586 7.0 target 03:29 54587 7.0 target 03:32 54588 7.0 target 03:35 54589 8.0 target 03:38 54590 8.0 target 03:41 54591 12.0 target 03:44 54592 13.0 target 03:48 54593 13.0 target 03:51 54594 13.0 target 03:54 54595 12.0 target 03:58 54596 10.0 flat 04:00 54597 2.0 arc ----- sequence 54598, plate 3017 ------- 06:01 54598 10.0 flat 06:04 54599 2.0 arc 06:13 54600 8.0 target 06:16 54601 8.0 target 06:19 54602 7.0 target 06:22 54603 8.0 target 06:25 54604 8.0 target 06:32 54605 13.0 target 06:38 54606 13.0 target 06:41 54607 13.0 target 06:45 54608 13.0 target 06:50 54609 10.0 flat 06:52 54610 2.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11:33Z 3 3031 1.00012 -1184 199 -10 200 47.4 8.8 14 144 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:50Z 56 37 12 206 (SSW) 492 - 23:21Z 59 40 17 209 (SSW) 516 - 23:54Z 55 37 10 205 (SSW) 521 - 00:24Z 51 35 10 133 (SE) 545 - 00:54Z 49 37 14 126 (SE) 535 - 01:24Z 47 37 11 120 (ESE) 605 - 01:54Z 47 36 10 108 (ESE) 702 - 02:24Z 47 35 8 105 (ESE) 751 - 02:57Z 47 36 9 103 (ESE) 799 - 03:28Z 47 36 12 118 (ESE) 782 - 03:59Z 48 33 15 123 (ESE) 742 - 04:29Z 48 33 14 122 (ESE) 715 - 05:01Z 48 33 16 128 (SE) 761 - 05:33Z 47 31 15 128 (SE) 822 - 06:05Z 47 30 15 138 (SE) 819 - 06:35Z 47 30 12 150 (SSE) 785 - 07:06Z 46 29 9 176 (S) 762 - 07:38Z 46 31 7 178 (S) 708 - 08:10Z 46 32 3 188 (S) 785 - 08:42Z 46 30 6 160 (SSE) 776 - 09:13Z 46 30 8 155 (SSE) 745 - 09:44Z 48 25 13 144 (SE) 822 - 10:15Z 48 25 13 140 (SE) 784 - 10:46Z 48 26 12 144 (SE) 848 - 11:17Z 48 26 13 132 (SE) 818 - 11:49Z 47 27 14 136 (SE) 782 - 12:22Z 47 28 18 128 (SE) 828 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:20Z - Began ventilation.
