BOSS Imaging ------------ Imaged 82 S (run 7765) from lambda = 130 to 162, including ramps. High humidity prevented us from finishing 82 S. Imaged 78 N (run 7767) from lambda = -174 to -153, including ramps. Run 7766 is the on-telescope imager bias. MARVELS ------- Observed cart. 3, 3040 with 5X20s exposures. This plate still needs the 5X30s exposures before it is finished. In the plate database we gave it 0.5 for S/N to describe it as half done, but note that it's only a single-pointing field. Finished cart. 9, 3045, field A. We noticed a defined scrape/cut in the concrete apron adjacent and parallel to the north rail that looks as if it may have somehow been caused by the enclosure. We were careful to check rails and check under everything we could see and did not see anything that may have caused it. We also didn't hear anything when we moved the enclosure, so it may have been there for some time and we just hadn't noticed it prior to tonight, but we thought it was worth mentioning here. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- We were unable to log into observer@sdsshost2. The humidity climbed about 10% between the time we went outside to open and the time we got back to the control room. The humidity was in the red zone with the dewpoint depression below 3.0C, so we closed. 00:50Z - Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans off. 02:44Z - Humidity looked to be somewhat stabalizing. Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 03:06Z - Opened the DIMM to get an idea of the seeing. Howard discovered the DIMM computer had crashed, so he had to reboot it to get the DIMM running again. 03:25Z - Enclosure off. 03:35Z - Removed cart. 4 and corrector, mounted imager, set counterweights to 730, force-filled the spectrographs, and checked telescope balance. BOSS - 80 S *********** This is to be imaged from lambda = 132 to -140. On Oct. 8th it was imaged from 167 to -138, including ramps. 03:53Z - scanStripe 80 S 127. Altitude = 44 degrees. 03:56Z - goDrift. Run 7765. Focus good from the start. A visual inspection uncovered nothing on the surface. According to other weather sources, we still had clear skies. 04:15Z - Cloud camera artifact disappeared and back to photometric reporting. 04:16Z - Started science at frame 38, lambda = 132. The humidity jumped around during most of this run, but stayed below the red zone. 06:12Z - The humidity had reached the red zone with the dewpoint depression below 3C. We did a manual check at the telescope and found that the DIMM was beginning to get wet, so we immediately decided to close. The 2.5m surfaces still remained dry. 06:14Z - endDrift. Ended at frame 237, lambda = 162. Median seeing for this run was well below 1.5" for the entire drift. 06:23Z - Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans off. When we finished closing the enclosure door was wet. The non-photometric reading reported by the cloud cam between ~05:50Z and the end of this drift was due to a bug flying around the cloud camera. The sky was indeed photometric for the entire imaging drift. Imager Bias *********** 06:27Z - goDrift -bias. Run 7766. On-telescope tbars-unlatched bias. 07:15Z - Humidity has been in the acceptable range for a few minutes. Began ventilation. Doors and louvers opened, fans on. 07:43Z - Enclosure off. BOSS - 78 N *********** 07:52Z - scanStripe 78 N 185. Altitude = 47 degrees. 07:54Z - goDrift -quick. Run 7767. Focus good from the start. This plate was at an altitude of 22 degrees, so we decided to switch to cart. 3 and try to finish as much of it as possible. 09:42Z - The altitude axis aborted at ~23 degrees. We checked the lower enclosure and didn't see a slip indicator. We just reinitialized the axes and it worked fine again.
