APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday August 15, 2009 (MJD 55059) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Dan Oravetz (on PD) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Pre-shake tests ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We completed several small tasks (see log). The biggest accomplishment was successfully taking an imager bias. It complained of an old teamster and amplifier voltages not being at their nominal values. We let it run 122 frames. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- 01:15Z - Arrived on site. ------ Checked disk space: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 123G 13G 91% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 807G 64G 93% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.5T 678G 715G 49% /files Deleted MJD's 55009-55025. Spectro and MT servers are not operational yet, but imager server is running. Watcher program cannot be run. ------ Obtained a test mirror numbers (telescope is pinned at zenith). TCC working. ------ Attempting imager bias (since imager is cold): Amplifier voltages were not at their nominal operating values, but continued the drift anyway. Photo and astro crates were reset. All nodes available. All monitors in the control room work. ------ We tried connecting to STUI, but we did not know the correct ProgramID name. We also did not know the usernames and passwords Jon assigned. We reviewed some documentation with the software. ------ Spectrographs not assembled and working yet. We were not able to load any cartridge, take guider frames, or take biases/flats/arcs. ------ TCC is alive and we are able to communicate with it. ------ Sorted through the plates in the storage room and narrowed down Kaike's list to the best plates to use for the collimation (with well-dispersed guide stars). They are as follows: Plate# Location Guide Star Distribution SEGUE2: 3129 Dewer shed, top shelf OK 3139 " OK 3146 " Not very good 3147 " Good 3140 " Not very good MARVELS-Pre: 3034 Dewer shed, top shelf Good 3036 " Good 3190 " Not very good 3191 " Good; Stars on outer edge 3504 Dewer shed stack " 3505 " " 3506 " Not very good 3507 " Good; Stars on outer edge ------ Cloud camera is alive. The first part of the night was photometric. ------ 04:45Z - Tested endNight. It rejoiced. No problems. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7996 03:20Z 03:23Z 100 O 83.90 84.69 18 ignore Test 7997 03:24Z 03:27Z 100 O 84.92 85.50 8 ignore Test 7998 03:32Z 04:37Z 100 O 86.77 103.14 122 ignore 7999 04:38Z 04:48Z 100 O 103.35 105.89 8 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:22Z 65 41 6 285 (WNW) 1221 - 01:54Z 63 38 9 299 (WNW) 1047 - 02:26Z 63 34 9 301 (WNW) 885 - 02:59Z 64 34 9 266 (W) 918 - 03:31Z 64 35 7 270 (W) 918 - 04:03Z 61 35 7 255 (WSW) 963 - 04:35Z 61 37 12 231 (SW) 1042 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Pinned at zenith for spectrograph work.
