APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 7, 2009 (MJD 55112) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Alaina Shelden Support: Nathan De Lee (UF) troubleshoot MARVELS problems ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! MARVELS! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Night lost to clouds and humidity. MCP froze during the afternoon checkout, and had to be restarted. Micro randomply rebooted itself again. Did an iack. MARVELS seems to have an ethernet connection problem or a CCD electronics problem. Nathan will be calling Dan and Fritz in the morning. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- 23:50Z Restarted servers. 23:57Z Disk space: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda3 142G 123G 12G 92% / /dev/sda1 99M 30M 64M 33% /boot /dev/sdb1 917G 837G 34G 97% /data sdssfiles1p:/data1/data 1.8T 181G 1.7T 10% /files hub25mp:/home 92G 56G 37G 61% /home_hub25m 00:02Z Cloudy weather, will keep an eye on it so we can open. 00:07Z MCP froze, we had to restart it. 00:13Z Turned on ThAr lamp. 00:29Z Started imager bias. 00:32Z Besids MCP failure, no other problems in checkout. 00:33Z Started ventilation, even though we're not opening soon. Night: ------ 00:48Z Sunset 01:45Z Rain sensor went off, keeping an eye on the radar returns. 02:01Z Evening twilight (18 deg) 02:38Z Moonrise 03:36Z Restarted cloudcam. Still overcast with radar returns. 04:46Z Critical boss.SP1MicroNotTalking Reported by camCheck Tried boss ping twice before we got a "live" response. Looks like it rebooted itself. Seems it went on a short vacation... 04:46:18 .alerts 0 alerts e alert=boss.SP1MicroNotTalking,critical,"Reported by camCheck",enabled,noack,"" 04:49Z boss iack Seems to have worked. 07:56Z Started to get the following error on MARVELS: ALARM: failed connecting socket to SI-CCD server *** We pinged MARVELS, and it's alive. Tried reconnecting to servers and the error did not go away. It says port 42001 is not connected. 09:01Z Talked to Nathan. The windows box does not look like it shut off, and all wires are connected as they should be. We may have to powercycle the CCD electronics, but that may mean resetting the CCD to cool. This requires Nathan to drive to the office and see the instructions, which is most likely not worth it since the weather shows no signs of clearing tonight. This is left as a task to be worked out in the morning. Fritz and Dan, be on alert that Nathan will be calling tomorrow to get MARVELS up and running again. 09:05Z Humidity is getting high, stop ventilating if it gets much higher. 10:46Z endNight finished...and there was much rejoicing. Yay. 10:50Z Stopped ventialtion. 11:41Z Morning twilight (18 deg) 12:54Z Sunrise ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8079 00:31Z 01:07Z 100 O 93.60 102.81 74 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:08Z 57 45 25 228 (SW) 1536 - cloudy 22:40Z 55 40 14 228 (SW) 807 - 23:12Z 58 42 17 234 (SW) 1155 - 23:44Z 56 42 23 217 (SW) 1121 - 00:16Z 54 42 18 227 (SW) 1295 - 00:49Z 54 41 16 232 (SW) 1067 - 01:21Z 54 39 12 216 (SW) 642 - 01:54Z 53 39 18 215 (SW) 590 - 02:26Z 54 38 13 215 (SW) 510 - 02:58Z 54 38 16 208 (SSW) 493 - 03:30Z 54 38 9 237 (WSW) 554 - 04:02Z 53 39 6 227 (SW) 611 - 04:34Z 51 40 10 261 (W) 754 - 05:06Z 51 39 11 238 (WSW) 802 - 05:39Z 51 38 12 269 (W) 682 - 06:11Z 49 38 8 274 (W) 883 - 06:43Z 49 39 9 267 (W) 900 - 07:15Z 49 38 10 267 (W) 890 - 07:47Z 48 38 7 277 (W) 928 - 08:19Z 47 39 9 280 (W) 979 - 08:51Z 47 40 8 269 (W) 1202 - 09:24Z 47 40 11 261 (W) 1143 - 09:56Z 47 40 12 245 (WSW) 1153 - 10:28Z 46 40 13 241 (WSW) 1090 - 11:00Z 46 40 10 264 (W) 1215 - cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:33Z - started ventilation 10:50Z - Ventilation off Telescope stowed at 30 deg alt with cartridge 5 mounted.
