APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday November 27, 2009 (MJD 55163) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Elena Malanushenko Alaina Shelden Steph Snedden (afternoon) Viktor Malanushenko (ARCSAT and occasional help) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- MARVELS and BOSS Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- FYI Focus is ~400, for initial guesses in the following nights. Cloudy towards the end of the night. Last MARVELS exposure was aborted, and then attempted to observe with BOSS. Closed at 11:10Z due to weather. The gang connector handle had trouble turning. At one point it did not turn at all. Cart 8 was in the bay backwards. Please check that the alignment holes are facing outwards when a cart is replaced in the bay. Thanks! Clouds starting to roll in. 08:55Z The cartridge was in the bay backwards, with alignment holes facing inward instead of outward. This is the second time this has happened while I am on. It's not a big deal, it just takes some time to get the cart turned around twice. 08:57Z The gang connector is having troubles again. It pushes in easily, but does not twist easily. This last time I couldn't twist it at all for a few minutes (eventially got it working). I suspect that the low PMT values for the TIOs and ThAr exposures are due to the connector not being fully connected. It's not consistently low, so the sole problem is probably not dirt on the fibers. 09:00Z Due to some clouds, we can't see guide stars consistently. Waiting to start science exposure. 09:11Z Started 50 min exposure, efficiency is low with variable seeing. 09:47Z Aborted the exposure, clouds looked thick and dense. However, when we aborted the CCD did not read out. It was left that way, since we couldn't take a bias to clear it. 09:48Z Stowed telescope and closed petals.
