APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday December 4, 2009 (MJD 55170) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Viktor Malanushenko Elena Malanushenko Kaike Pan (afternoon) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Marvels Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- It was mostly clear for the most of last night but blowing wind with snow kept us closed. In addition, were was ice on the top of enclosure and wall. We made several spectro tests for cloudy nights. -- Sparse-plugged test: We observed cart 12 plate 3681 the sparse plugged plate to test the coma issue. -- Spectro darks and biases: When the wind blowing went down we mounted cart 11 plate 3521 and made series of 25 spectro biases and three of 900 sec darks. By the morning, we made several more hartmanns with cold spectrograph and found that to be in foc we need to move r2 motors behind the range. We turned r2 to be in foc once, but could not turn it again. We could not turn b2 also. Is it temperature related? The shed door needs to be checked. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- afternoon: ---------- IOP servers dead sometime this morning. Robert fixed the offensed line in the code, we then was able to restarted the murmur server and IOP servers. Craig, Paul etc are working on actors today. As 5:15Z, they are still working on BOSS, we are asked not to us boss and sop actors. plate 3705 did not show up with "platedb showActive", but it did show up in plate db webpage. so we try to make it active with "makePluggingActive". It actually made the plate show up in "platedb showActive". However, when I refreshed the webpage, the plate disappear from "platedb showActive". We tried a few time, we never get the plate show up in both STUI and webpage. While the plate disappear from STUI: platedb showActive, we can not load the cartridge. So, we leave it in the situation: the plate appear in STUI, but not in web page. It was cold and windy. We had strong wind blowing around site. Delay with ventilations and with opening. We removed snow from telescope west balcony. Cart 12 was mounted 3681. We made hartmann and adjusted the spectro focus. 01:04 Calibration flat and arc were done. 01:53 We made sparse test observations using this cart. We waited until blowing was not so strong and replace cart 12 to cart 11 with plate 3521. 04:50Z We made test with 25 biases 104336-104360 05:30Z started ventilation. 05:42Z Three dark observatiosn has been done 900 sec each, 104361-63 As we know, the software for this reduction is not ready yet for analysis of data from new spectrograph, so we will reduce the data later when it will be possible. We started ventilation The weather is still the same. The blowing wind with snow and layer of ice on roof of enclosure and dooprs kept us closed. 08:51Z. I thought to do dithered flats also but I need to set spectro focus first. sop hartmann, ff=0104366,67 sop hartmann, ff=0104368,69 we found out that to be in foc we need to move r2 motors behind of our range. The temperature of spectro were Tsp1=1.1 and Tsp2=-0.4. We turned r2 by +10 degrees. sop hartmann, ff=70,71 - r2 was in focus. The position of motors were around 1000, which not anough for another possible temperature adjustment. We tried to turn r2 by 20 degrees, but could not turn it anymore. We also could not adjust b2. b1 ring was turned by 11 degree to be in foc. After final b1 11 degrees turn, we made final sop hartmann. Collimate recommended so different adjustment compare what we had before the looks confusing. By the twilight time we found out that Kyle placed on wiki decStragery plan. But we used Stephanie's Dec plan from our wellknown place on sdsshost2. endNight is finished. 11:30Z stopped ventilations. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8168 00:22Z 00:45Z 100 O 148.69 154.46 52 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 22:42Z 16 -13 6 42 (NE) 172 - snow blowing 23:14Z 15 -11 17 18 (NNE) 377 - 23:46Z 17 -15 14 34 (NE) 214 - 00:18Z 18 -13 16 353 (NNW) 254 - 01:01Z 18 -10 3 335 (NNW) 290 - 01:34Z 19 -11 12 357 (NNW) 336 - 02:06Z 21 -11 9 8 (N) 344 - 02:39Z 21 -14 23 19 (NNE) 304 - 03:11Z 21 -14 16 3 (N) 394 - 03:43Z 23 -15 17 14 (NNE) 290 - 04:15Z 23 -16 13 0 (N) 325 - 04:47Z 22 -16 10 31 (NNE) 332 - 05:19Z 22 -13 5 344 (NNW) 282 - 05:51Z 23 -16 14 12 (NNE) 342 - 06:23Z 24 -20 16 17 (NNE) 465 - 06:56Z 25 -24 18 8 (N) 252 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- We did not open last night. 05:30Z started ventillation. 11:30 stopped ventilations.
