APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday March 30, 2010 (MJD 55286) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Steph Snedden Dan Oravetz ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Flex Engineering/MARVELS Science ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Please check the mirrors and cartridges since we were in some dust. Observed 7 MARVELS post-selection plates. Details and potentially dropped/broken fibers in Log body. We observed some strange behavior with SOP where it was getting intermittently hung or something. Details in the Log body. The enclosure failed to close all the way, but French was working on it. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ========= There wasn't much of a formal afternoon checkout. We supported Craig's requests as needed during his MCP tests and since the wind and dust levels were high we left the telescope alone except for turning the amplifiers on as part of Craig's tests. Following Craig's tests, we still delayed opening due to the wind and the dust. Night ===== 03:05Z - Conditions had improved, so we mounted cart. 4 and opened. We grabbed mirror numbers and forced a fill from the 180L dewar. 03:15Z - Cals. 03:51Z - SP2 took on the order of 15-20 min. longer to fill than SP1. Cart. 4, 3708B, GL273 ********************* 03:58Z - GSOGTF. 04:04Z - Science. 04:56Z - Cals. 67,68 and 31,32 appear dropped or broken. Cart. 5, 3711A, HD80606 *********************** 05:05Z - GSOGTF. 05:14Z - While we were guiding Steph's scale changes weren't being accepted and then the calibration lamps turned on and the telescope entered a slewing state. This happened twice, the second instance was after we had started fresh with reloading the cartridge and slewing back to the field. The only messages we saw in the STUI log were: 05:18:18 APO.snedden 60 sop f text="Failed to close screens, warm up lamps, and slew to field" 05:23:14 .tcc 0 tcc I AxisCmdState="Slewing","Slewing","Slewing" 05:23:16 APO.snedden.guider 245 tcc F Text="move rejected; telescope is slewing" 05:23:16 .hub 0 cmds d CmdDone=578629 05:23:16 APO.snedden 86 guider w text="Failed to issue offset" 05:23:16 .hub 0 cmds d CmdIn="APO.snedden.guider","tcc","offset guide 0.000000, 0.000000, -5.66717e-05" 05:23:16 .hub 0 cmds d CmdQueued=578630,1270012996.39,"APO.snedden.guider",246,"tcc",124873,"offset guide 0.000000, 0.000000, -5.66717e-05" 05:23:16 APO.snedden.guider 246 tcc > Started; Cmd="offset guide 0.000000, 0.000000, -5.66717e-05" 05:23:16 APO.snedden.guider 246 tcc F Text="move rejected; telescope is slewing" Switched to 3711B since we lost the time due to SOP misbehavior. 05:27Z - Cals. It sounded like there was poor contact between the rail and the shoes. There was no danger to the telescope and French was on site, so he took it off our hands. Thanks, French. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): y QA Procedures Done (y/n): y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T03:14:29.570.fits TIO 11.000000 43684.363281 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T03:16:37.080.fits THAR 160.000000 316.712494 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T03:21:12.720.fits TIO 11.000000 43269.816406 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T04:04:36.010.fits STAR 3000.000000 28.604000 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T04:56:21.470.fits TIO 11.000000 46426.183594 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T04:58:27.990.fits THAR 160.000000 309.637512 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T05:03:03.470.fits TIO 11.000000 46482.000000 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T05:27:17.540.fits TIO 11.000000 46817.546875 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T05:29:25.100.fits THAR 160.000000 319.987488 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T05:33:59.650.fits TIO 11.000000 46324.273438 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T05:46:13.760.fits STAR 3000.000000 25.700001 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T06:38:05.200.fits TIO 11.000000 45488.183594 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T06:40:10.560.fits THAR 160.000000 311.918762 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T06:44:47.260.fits TIO 11.000000 45305.000000 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T06:55:45.510.fits STAR 3000.000000 30.513666 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T07:47:39.480.fits TIO 11.000000 45559.546875 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T07:49:46.140.fits THAR 160.000000 308.693756 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T07:54:21.830.fits TIO 11.000000 44309.273438 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T07:59:52.580.fits STAR 3000.000000 22.561001 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T08:51:46.250.fits TIO 11.000000 41925.910156 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T08:53:52.850.fits THAR 160.000000 263.725006 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T08:58:28.420.fits TIO 11.000000 41467.816406 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T09:05:23.800.fits STAR 3000.000000 32.293999 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T09:57:07.670.fits TIO 11.000000 40973.726562 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T09:59:15.320.fits THAR 160.000000 263.312500 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T10:03:50.830.fits TIO 11.000000 40469.453125 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T10:07:47.290.fits STAR 3000.000000 39.037334 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T10:59:33.750.fits TIO 11.000000 44762.726562 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T11:01:39.330.fits THAR 160.000000 273.612488 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T11:06:13.820.fits TIO 11.000000 44495.453125 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T11:11:37.580.fits STAR 3000.000000 44.408333 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T12:03:53.290.fits TIO 11.000000 43168.453125 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T12:05:59.770.fits THAR 160.000000 272.162506 MARVELS1.2010-03-31T12:10:34.240.fits TIO 11.000000 43629.726562 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ObjArcOff = 0.000620, 0.000000, 4776733916.25000, 0.003130, 0.000000, 4776733916.25000 ObjArcOff = 0.000202, 0.000000, 4776735807.22000, 0.000712, 0.000000, 4776735807.22000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 06:31Z 5 0 1.00023 -2270 -413 350 -36 82.5 8.8 17 264 gdr. 1.5" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:00Z 52 10 22 260 (W) 2215 - 01:32Z 49 8 24 254 (WSW) 2046 - 02:04Z 50 8 23 257 (WSW) 1844 - 02:36Z 50 9 18 275 (W) 1944 - 03:08Z 49 10 30 273 (W) 2025 - 03:41Z 50 10 12 273 (W) 2570 - 04:13Z 50 10 22 271 (W) 4311 - 04:45Z 49 11 23 269 (W) 3359 - 05:17Z 49 9 17 265 (W) 2683 - 05:49Z 49 9 17 261 (W) 2332 - 06:21Z 48 9 17 265 (W) 2257 - 06:54Z 48 8 17 269 (W) 2349 - 07:26Z 47 9 19 267 (W) 2158 - 07:58Z 47 10 14 277 (W) 2154 - 08:30Z 46 10 24 295 (WNW) 2162 - 09:02Z 45 10 15 288 (WNW) 1974 - 09:34Z 45 11 22 266 (W) 1979 - 10:06Z 44 11 24 273 (W) 1971 - 10:39Z 43 12 13 261 (W) 2023 - 11:11Z 43 13 20 272 (W) 2047 - 11:43Z 43 13 23 285 (WNW) 2056 - 12:15Z 42 13 17 264 (W) 2053 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 03:05Z - Opened.
