APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Friday April 30, 2010 (MJD 55317) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Dan Oravetz ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Flex Engineering & MARVELS ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- The night was lost to clouds. The ThAr lamp burned out which led to lots of MARVELS output errors in an MJCI window. We started - but didn't finish - the guider test for cart. 11. Some test slews were done by the developers. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon ========= 01:07Z - ThAr lamp turned on. 01:21Z - Verified STUI actors were alive and responsive. 01:22Z - Verified servers were alive on MONX3. 01:24Z - Verified gcam and spectro temperatures were in spec. 01:30Z - Checked out telescope and enclosure. Mounted cart. 11. 01:37Z - Checked mirror numbers and fiducial crossings. Clouds prevented opening on time. Night ===== 04:03Z - Opened. The southern enclosure pin was really stuck. Maybe the high winds yesterday pushed the enclosure and jammed the pin? Either way, we needed to temporarily bypass the enclosure interlock and move the building to free it up. We got the following slew error during the slew to field prior to the guider test with cart. 11: 03:52:19 APO.asimmons 16 sop w text="RHL skipping slew" 03:52:19 APO.asimmons 16 sop i text="gotoField=1,1, 0,1, 0,1" 03:52:19 .sop 0 sop w text="Unexpected exception 'int' object is not callable in sop uv thread" 03:52:19 .sop 0 sop w text="Unexpected exception 'int' object is not callable in sop wht thread" 03:52:19 APO.asimmons 16 sop f text="Failed to close screens, warm up lamps, and slew to field" We contacted Craig. We did a sop exitexit and setup the v1_0_4 version of sop from stageManager and then everything was fine. We ran into clouds pretty quickly just after we got on the field and focused, so we were unable to really complete the test. 04:21Z - Slewed to 121,30,00 and the FF petals were closed due to rapidly approaching (but no radar returns) clouds. We waited on the clouds. We started getting MARVELS errors as follows: Fri Apr 30 22:26:57 MDT 2010 Error: ALARM> ch-6 : Bottom = 28.15 > 28.05 C Fri Apr 30 22:26:58 MDT 2010 Error: ALARM> ch-7 : CCD skin = 35.342 > 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:26:58 MDT 2010 OK: nominal> ch-6 : Bottom : 27.93 < 27.977 < 28.05 C Fri Apr 30 22:26:58 MDT 2010 OK: nominal> ch-7 : CCD skin : 34.82 < 35.004 < 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:06 MDT 2010 Error: ALARM> ch-7 : CCD skin = 35.134 > 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:07 MDT 2010 OK: nominal> ch-7 : CCD skin : 34.82 < 35.002 < 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:31 MDT 2010 Error: ALARM> ch-7 : CCD skin = 35.207 > 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:32 MDT 2010 OK: nominal> ch-7 : CCD skin : 34.82 < 34.992 < 35.1 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:53 MDT 2010 Error: ALARM> ch- 9 : Iodine = 61.033 > 61.0 C Fri Apr 30 22:27:54 MDT 2010 OK: nominal> ch- 9 : Iodine : 59.0 < 60.0 < 61.0 C There were certainly many more similar errors, so we contacted Nathan and he suspected the ThAr lamp was burning out and that these errors were likely related to that. We turned off the ThAr lamp and soon thereafter the errors stopped (last one was at 05:06:02Z). Software folks did some test slews while we were open and in clouds. 07:16Z - Closed for thickening clouds. 10:15Z - Called it a night. Shut everything down. 10:17Z - endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:02Z 36 1 35 268 (W) 1176 - mostly cloudy 00:34Z 35 -1 18 264 (W) 1111 - mostly cloudy 01:06Z 32 -2 24 271 (W) 904 - mostly cloudy 01:37Z 32 0 13 266 (W) 1187 - mostly cloudy 02:08Z 30 4 10 285 (WNW) 1615 - mostly cloudy 02:38Z 29 4 7 300 (WNW) 855 - mostly cloudy 03:11Z 29 5 12 292 (WNW) 415 - mostly cloudy 03:43Z 28 5 8 327 (NNW) 336 - mostly cloudy 04:15Z 28 6 3 304 (NW) 323 - partly cloudy 04:47Z 28 8 11 303 (WNW) 305 - mostly cloudy 05:19Z 27 8 4 335 (NNW) 303 - mostly cloudy 05:50Z 27 8 8 342 (NNW) 316 - mostly cloudy 06:23Z 27 8 9 356 (NNW) 345 - mostly cloudy 06:56Z 27 8 11 344 (NNW) 275 - mostly cloudy 07:28Z 27 8 7 349 (NNW) 263 - clouds 08:00Z 27 5 5 1 (N) 272 - clouds 08:32Z 26 6 8 23 (NNE) 238 - clouds 09:04Z 27 5 6 35 (NE) 247 - clouds 09:36Z 27 4 6 56 (NE) 310 - clouds ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 04:03Z - Opened. 07:16Z - Closed.
