We called French, he called Wendell to site, but then it turned out that there are sensors that block cart bay doors if something is blocking it. Sunlight flooded sensors and they prevented opening doors. When we tried to open, the outer doors were just a few inches cracked. So, this time robots won, and mechanical mind overtakes ours. Mechanisms are getting smarter and smarter. Uff, what to expect next: dancing collimators, singing pistons, drunky wookie, or observing coffeemaker? It was clear night. BOSS plates exposed: 3845 (c. 12) DONE 4005 (c. 11) not done yet 3973 (c. 14) DONE 4012 (c. 13) not done yet We closed after the middle of the night because of high and rising wind. Since we had wind gusts up to 30 in the evening and expected more acc. to forecast, we didn't open DIMM. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Scissors lift in the cart. bay does not work. 00:40Z started ventilation "apo" actor does not work Night: ------ Power is on at the scissors lift. French recommended to try manual mode. Manual mode is OK. By the way, it was a red light at the western wall (inside the bay, at the top), it got on and off indicating the level position of the lift. Now it is all time on. Hard to say where the middle position is. French recommended to work in the man mode meanwhile, and he will ask Wendell to drive to the site right now. Cart. 12 is mounted, darks, biases, collimation checked. Dan Long called and suggested that may be the lift problem is due to the IR light sensors: if Sun is up too much, they might be fooled by the sun light. After sunset we tried again, and the lift worked properly. The position LED started working, too. Sorry Wendell! Wendell came to the site, and double checked to be sure that the lift is working. Collimation check suggested blue ring move of -5 deg on sp1. Done. 01:52Z dome opened. Filled dewars. 02:40Z gotoField with cart. 12. Since we still had time till twilight, we did "gotoField" again with hartmanns and flats, but it didn't improve the situation.
