APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday July 3, 2010 (MJD 55381) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Alaina Shelden Steph Snedden Support: Jon Brinkmann Craig Loomis (PU) Adrian Price-Whelan (NYU) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- BOSS until 06:16 (2.3 h), then MARVELS (4.1 h) ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Observed two MARVELS plates after the clouds cleared out: 3514B - FIELD 1068 4104A - HD4203 gotoField from SOPGUI does not take a guider flat on the MARVELS cartridges. There is a two minute delay in the gotoField sequence until the guider flat attempt times out. There is an existing PR on this. Craig is aware of the problem. The quick collimate from SOP also failed (see the log body for details) and Craig is also aware of this. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- sdsshost2 needs to have more old mcptpm data gzipped. No problems noted during afternoon checkout. Collimation did not converge with the full readout Hartmanns. After making the requested piston moves, the errors stayed large. We then tried the subarray Hartmann as a comparison. Sop failed on the reduction; not able to find the images even though they were on disk. Running collimate manually on the subarray readout worked and agreed with the full image collimate results. The actual 2d spectra displayed normally and didn't show anything obviously wrong. Craig is looking into this, but did not tell us if he has a diagnosis yet. Night: ----- 02:22Z - Cloudy with sprinkles at sunset. High humidity. 02:28Z - On a calibration exposure, frame 117611 b1 and r1 did not read out. It turns out it was a non-problem. Craig was playing with the code and temporarily broke it. 04:50Z - IRSC images stopped showing up on the web page, and the IR satellite images on the weather page were only partial. Gave Jon a cal. He checked the web server, found out the disk was full and started compressing old files. 04:50Z - ThAr lamp on. 05:05Z - Ventilation started 08:20Z - Opened enclosure 08:40Z - Cartridge 9, plate 3514B - FIELD 1068 - MARVELS -------------------------------------------------------- GSOGTF N File Type 0 T08:26:29.070.fits TIO 44663.184 5042.4912 1 T08:28:34.540.fits THAR 294.97501 714.80139 2 T08:33:09.100.fits TIO 44821.273 5028.2959 3 T08:43:18.840.fits STAR 27.358999 873.62323 No missing spectra (besides the two known broken long fibers) 09:45Z - Cartridge 1, plate 4104A - HD4203 - MARVELS ----------------------------------------------------- Needed offset arc -.004,.002 to find the guide stars.
