APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday October 16, 2002 (MJD 52564) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Stephanie Snedden Jurek Krzesinski Pete Newman (swing) Connie Rockosi (by phone) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- shakeup ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- PT: We did Douglas's tests of mtstds v3_5 - it failed, PR 4010 reopened. Connie's request to check new tools for watching biases, LED frames, and mosaic biases done. Still some work needs to be done, but the tools seems to be useful :). PR 4310, 4311, 4313 were filed. PR 4312 was a result of our misunderstanding of the help string. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Pete setuped new mtsds version v3_5 on sdssmth and started GUI to see if autopickup mode will skip obsolete primaries from Douglas's old primary list, during the night. It failed (stopped picking up stars at all after a while) - PR 4010 reopened. Connie's tests... IOP: biasCheck: --------------- We ran biasCheck on a doghouse bias, first in verbose mode without the -doghouse option. biasCheck appeared to complain about bad bias values, as it should in this case. However, it looked for a biasnom directory & couldn't find it. This directory needs to be automatically created by the proc. The details: im> checkBias 3395 25 /data/photo/cmr/checkBias o0 o1 o2 o3 o4 o5 {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } l1 l2 l3 l4 l5 l6 r1 Error: your IOP_DIR/params/biasnom directory does not exist! Meanwhile we created that directory manualy and run checkBias again... this time we've got Error: no files found in your IOP_DIR/params/biasnom directory We guesssed that those must be *.par files, but they were created in IOP_DIR/params directory. So, the code needs some corrections either to get rid off biasnom directory or to look for parameter files in the biasnom. But we didn't find idQABiasnom file - at that stage we called Connie. And it looks like its cvs installation script problem (make file missing)- Steph taged the new version of iop on her host directory -(she actually had to run sdssmake to get the new iop - she done everything up to setenv IOP_DIR /p/iop ... variable setting). PR 4310 filed. After that we run checkBias again and that worked. Results from a doghouse bias without the -doghouse option: im> checkBias 3395 25 /data/photo/cmr/checkBias o0 o1 o2 o3 o4 o5 {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } l1 l2 l3 l4 l5 l6 r1 {11 WARN: } {11 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } r2 r3 r4 r5 [...] u1 u2 u3 u4 {34 WARN: } {34 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } u5 u6 z1 z2 z3 z4 z5 z6 g1 {51 WARN: } {51 FAIL: leftBiasVector rightBiasVector } g2 g3 g4 [...] s3 s4 s5 h1 Using the -doghouse option suppressed some error messages: im> checkBias 3395 25 /data/photo/cmr/checkBias -doghouse o0 o1 o2 o3 o4 o5 {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } l1 l2 l3 [...] s3 s4 s5 h3 Using the -quiet option we got only the following error: o5 {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } l1 We then ran a bias with the Tbars in "operate" position. The only errors were for chip 65: im> checkBias 3396 25 /data/photo/cmr/checkBias -astro o0 o1 o2 o3 o4 o5 {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } {65 WARN: oddEvenAmp } {65 FAIL: } IOP plotBiasvec: ---------------- Initially we had a problem (bug, PR 4311 filed) with PGPLOT not launching when plotBiasvec was run (see the problem section). After some work around, we looked at some bias vectors for different CCDs. Looks like a useful tool, Connie. CCDs from a doghouse bias that are out of spec are easy to distinguish using plotBiasvec. The bias levels are checked against a bias run with all nominal values, and deviations from the nominal values are obvious. IOP/labelPhotoMosaic: --------------------- The command labelPhotoMosaic -fsao should default to an fsao display value of 1, however when you try the command with the default, you get: im> labelPhotoMosaic -fsao Error: Syntax Error: "-fsao" option requires an additional argument ftclParseArg: Error parsing the command USAGE: labelPhotoMosaic -fsao -help However, when you explicitly say "labelPhotoMosaic -fsao 1", the CCD numbers are properly overlaid on the display. A PR 4312 was filed - but it happened to be our missunderstanding of the help string and the "1" SHOULD BE PRESENT at the and of labelPhtoMosaic command. IOP/checkLED: ------------- We took a drift with the LED illuminator on the imager so we could test the checkLED proc. Right away, it failed with the following message: im> checkLED 3399 25 /data/photo/cmr/checkBias/ Error: ipVectorAddToRegionRows: unsupported REGION type 128 PR 4313 filed. We tried running checkBias on these same images, and aside from bias level complaints, it worked fine, so this is probably just a small bug in the checkLED proc. We also checked bias with lights on in the enclosure and imager mounted on the telescope, to see if there are any light leaks, using new checkBias and plotBiasvec tools. After we switched both sets of ligths on, we've got checkBias warnings on ONE CCD nmbr: 25. We also ploted the results and find out that there is only little bit more scatter in bias level and the one with the warning had a white line (bias with lights on) little bit off the red bias (nominal bias level). However there was also CCD 45, which looked worse that 25 and got no warning - see for yourself and tell us what you think Connie, please :) (3401 run had all enclosure lights on, 3400 run had the direct lights only half way on.). All vector files, *gifs files with captured bias mosaic screens, and fits images from different runs are stored in: sdsshost, /data/photo/cmr/checkBias/ directory. endNight run properly. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3396 03:14Z 03:29Z 100 O 143.29 146.94 38 ignore 3397 04:07Z 04:23Z 100 O 156.64 160.46 39 bias 3398 06:20Z 06:21Z 100 O -170.04 -169.78 16 ignore 3399 06:26Z 06:42Z 100 O -168.71 -164.66 41 calibration 3401 09:17Z 09:26Z 100 O -125.70 -123.63 28 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 16602, plate -9999 ------- 23:59 16602 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:56Z 50 37 6 256 (WSW) 418 - 01:22Z 47 37 8 265 (W) 359 - 01:54Z 47 37 7 255 (WSW) 423 - 02:34Z 46 37 4 263 (W) 432 - 03:07Z 47 34 6 304 (NW) 647 - 03:39Z 48 28 5 284 (WNW) 220 - 04:11Z 48 25 2 277 (W) 243 - 04:44Z 48 26 2 275 (W) 163 - 05:16Z 48 27 4 239 (WSW) 175 - 05:48Z 48 27 1 214 (SW) 194 - 06:20Z 49 29 2 313 (NW) 266 - 06:53Z 49 29 3 264 (W) 325 - 07:25Z 46 29 1 104 (ESE) 277 - 07:57Z 48 31 3 193 (SSW) 315 - 08:29Z 48 32 4 180 (S) 413 - 09:25Z 47 33 6 194 (SSW) 441 - 09:58Z 46 32 6 183 (S) 408 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v3_85_0 Watcher: v2_19_0 MCP: v5_13_5 TPM: tpm_v2_17_0 AstroDa: v14_47 TCC: sdssProcedures: SoS: v4_9_10 hoggPT: v1_5_8 plate-mapper: v4_1_0 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 0.0800 0.0790 Axial B 0.7980 0.7970 Axial C 0.8190 0.8240 Trans D -9.1130 -9.1130 Lateral E 1.8740 1.8870 Lateral F 1.4170 1.4300 GALILS Commanded: 5400. -3700. 900. -200. 31550. 30650.
