APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Saturday March 15, 2003 (MJD 52714) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Mike Harvanek (APO) Steph Snedden (APO) Connie Rockosi (UW) Robert Lupton (PU) Gajus Miknaitis (UW) Sean Raymond (UW) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Night 2 of the bright time ecliptic binned scan tests. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Some 2X2 binned imaging for the time-domain tests, but most of the night was lost to heavy cloud. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Night 2 of the bright time tests It was mostly cloudy at sunset, but we opened in hopes of punching through the clouds. We set up for binned drifting (with no unbinned drift to set the monitor scale first). This was to test changes made in IOP that try to be smarter about setting the background scale levels during binned drifting. The first binned drift command resuted in a PTVME error on ad4: dsc W trcWarn daq already idle (dsc_W_trcWarn daq already idle : 2003-03-16 01:49:01Z) 02:17Z After two PTVME resets, we started a drift and went to: track 43.797095656395008,16.702657294484347 FK5 /rotty=obj /rota=0 /rotwrap=MID /tel1wrap=MID /ScanVelocity=(0.011707570051874186,0.003509270055219278) /Keep=(Boresight) The above command took us to strip A in the time domain imaging plan. We scanned in 2X2 binned mode at 3X sidereal rate through variably cloudy conditions. Connie worked on code to set the sky background levels properly on the displays, which was not easy given the changing levels due to the clouds. 04:05Z We closed for threatening clouds. We waited. 07:05Z Still waiting... 10:51Z And waiting... 11:30Z We give up for the night. Connie worked on some endNight bugs that arise from binned scanning. With astroline turned off, the gangs directories do not get created (no gang files are generated), and endNight will fail when it looks for the gangs. Have we seen this problem before when we have done Apache Wheel binned scans? The other failure mode occurred during the summary file generation. After 'couldn't open "/tmp/summary542102.ps": No such file or directory couldn't open "/tmp/fwhm542102.ps": No such file or directory' endNight would stop. Connie altered the code so endNight would continue if it does not find the sumary files. endNight did run successfully on tonight's data after fixing the above problems. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3738 01:20Z 01:36Z 100 O -97.41 -93.39 34 ignore 3740 01:55Z 01:56Z 100 O -88.74 -88.42 16 ignore 3743 02:04Z 02:06Z 100 O -86.40 -85.89 17 ignore 3744 02:08Z 04:05Z 100 O -85.40 -56.23 156 science binned 2X2 3745 04:45Z 04:46Z 100 O -46.09 -45.79 16 ignore 3746 04:47Z 05:08Z 100 O -45.51 -40.33 36 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL6113-6119 Stays: JL6120-6126 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 01:22Z 43 12 11 278 (W) 651 - mcl 01:54Z 44 10 10 262 (W) 632 - mcl 02:27Z 43 10 11 265 (W) 580 - mcl 03:00Z 42 13 11 266 (W) 615 - mcl 03:32Z 43 12 11 282 (WNW) 601 - mcl 04:04Z 43 10 15 294 (WNW) 591 - cloudy 04:40Z 43 10 12 273 (W) 504 - cloudy 05:13Z 43 10 16 280 (W) 427 - cloudy 05:45Z 43 10 14 287 (WNW) 425 - cloudy 06:17Z 42 10 13 295 (WNW) 381 - cloudy 06:49Z 42 11 17 285 (WNW) 413 - cloudy 07:21Z 41 12 13 281 (W) 413 - cloudy 07:54Z 41 13 20 301 (WNW) 416 - mcl 08:26Z 41 14 23 301 (WNW) 392 - mcl 08:58Z 41 16 15 301 (WNW) 390 - mcl 09:30Z 42 16 14 284 (WNW) 346 - mcl 10:02Z 41 17 14 267 (W) 358 - mcl 10:35Z 41 18 14 269 (W) 419 - cloudy 11:07Z 41 18 13 267 (W) 435 - cloudy 11:39Z 41 19 13 250 (WSW) 377 - cloudy 12:11Z 40 19 13 245 (WSW) 375 - cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 0045Z Opened enclosure.
