APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday April 13, 2005 (MJD 53474) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Atsuko Nitta Scot Kleinman Mike Harvanek (swing) Steph Snedden (helping us with DIMM) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- We finifhsed 4 plates. One plate, plate 1977, has S/N^2 of 17.3, 12.8, 20.2, 17.1. Could this plate be declared done? Jen -- a quick feedback will be great. Ops kitchen coffee grinder is not working well, making it difficult to make a good cup of espresso. Email sent out to the people to notify the situation. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- ID4-2 was uncooperative. The recovery procedure for a single failed drive worked and the drive was re-enabled. The spectro collimation was adjusted for the warmer temperatures forecast for tonight. Details are in the Problems section. Nothing else to report. Night: ------ xxx <--- Mike insisted on my taking the log here. During twilight, Mama Dimm (aka Steph) realigned DIMM for us. Cart 1 Plate 2007 -------------------- Start with FK5 in twilight. The first exposure is taken in twilight. The seeing is ok (1.6") but not as good as last night. We finished with 3 exposures. postCalib taken upon SoS recommendation. Cart 2 Plate 2095 ------------------- We saw stars with gotoField. When preFlat was reading out, the sp1 monitor froze with 1/3 of it turning blue. Scot, the driver, could no longer talk to the spectros, so we rebooted spectro DA crate and then drop and grabInst. We managed to take one bias but then Scot's sop window was scrolling with error messages when trying preFlat. Atsuko tried to take a bias, but the instrument was grabbed by Scot. Scot issued many control-C, logged out of sop and restarted. His next bias was good. Meanwhile Mike noticed the server died and restarted it. The error messages Scot saw in his sop window is in the problem section. This cost us about 30 min. We finished with 3 exposures. Cart 5 plate 2017 --------------------a Fk5ed. We had to use the magic RA offset of -20" to find the Fk5. We finished with three exposures and move on. Cart 6 Plate 1628 --------------------- One guide star on the edge of fiber 10. We are seeing more clouds. It took 4 exposures to finish this plate. But during the last exposure, the weather improved. Cart 7 Plate 1977 -------------------- Fk5ed. We had to offset 7" in DEC to find it. It was photometric from the 4th exposure of the last plate and the 2nd exposure of this plate. We estimated the integration a bit short. We got 17.3, 12.8 20.2 17.1 for S/N^2 from SoS. Could this plate be declared done? Three of the CCDs got more than enough S/N. Cart 8 plate 1690 --------------------- No guide stars. No FK5. We have clouds. We wait. We managed to see the guide stars, but disappeared again due to clouds. We recorded the offsets for this plate so that we can easily find the field next time we observe (the stars were a bit off). We logged the time from the start of this plate as clouds. 10:55Z It is less than 20min to twilight and we gave up and decided to close. endNight ran successfully. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5247 23:50Z 00:06Z 100 O -90.99 -86.90 41 ignore 5248 00:19Z 00:34Z 100 O -83.63 -79.93 38 ignore ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n):y QA Procedures Done (y/n):y UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 32027, plate -9999 ------- 23:49 32027 0.0 bias ----- sequence 32028, plate 1690 ------- 00:01 32028 10.0 flat collimation 00:03 32029 2.0 arc collimation 00:07 32030 2.1 arc collimation 00:09 32031 2.1 arc collimation 00:34 32032 10.0 flat collimation check 00:37 32033 2.0 arc collimation check 00:40 32034 2.1 arc collimation check 00:42 32035 2.1 arc collimation check ----- sequence 32036, plate -9999 ------- 01:26 32036 0.0 bias 02:14 32037 0.0 bias ----- sequence 32038, plate 2007 ------- 02:36 32038 10.0 flat 02:40 32039 2.0 arc ----- sequence 32038, plate 2007 ------- DONE 03:00 32040 900.1 target 03:18 32041 900.1 target 03:46 32042 1500.1 target 03:49 32043 10.0 flat 03:52 32044 2.0 arc ----- sequence 32047, plate 2095 ------- 04:15 32047 0.0 bias bad ----- sequence 32049, plate -9999 ------- 04:25 32049 0.0 bias bad ----- sequence 32050, plate 2095 ------- DONE 04:30 32050 0.0 bias 04:33 32051 10.0 flat 04:36 32052 2.0 arc 04:55 32053 900.1 target 05:11 32054 800.1 target 05:27 32055 800.1 target ----- sequence 32056, plate 2017 ------- DONE 05:44 32056 10.0 flat 05:47 32057 2.0 arc 06:05 32058 900.1 target 06:23 32059 900.1 target 06:41 32060 900.1 target ----- sequence 32061, plate 1628 ------- DONE 06:54 32061 10.0 flat 06:58 32062 2.0 arc 07:17 32063 900.1 target 07:45 32064 1500.1 target 08:13 32065 1500.1 target 08:44 32066 1680.2 target ----- sequence 32067, plate 1977 ------- 17.3 12.8 20.3 17.1 08:57 32067 10.0 flat 09:00 32068 2.0 arc 09:21 32069 1000.1 target 09:40 32070 1000.1 target 10:05 32071 1300.2 target ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:18Z 1 2007 115.21 0.0012 75.15 0.0067 -74.82 0.0040 1.000270 04:57Z 2 2095 89.41 0.0022 81.68 0.0073 264.04 0.0717 1.000210 05:54Z 5 2017 81.31 -0.0020 71.83 0.0064 250.69 0.0029 1.000210 09:06Z 7 1977 246.78 0.0042 62.89 0.0039 86.29 -0.0128 1.000160 10:53Z 8 1690 -57.69 0.0057 81.37 0.0040 126.31 0.0000 1.000160 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL8464 Stays: JL8465 ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 03:18Z 1 2007 1.00027 -2665 -1058 25 115 75.2 8.2 17 140 gdr 1.6 04:57Z 2 2095 1.00021 -2073 -574 25 89 81.7 8.6 16 154 gdr 1.3 05:54Z 5 2017 1.00021 -2073 -613 -25 81 71.8 8.4 15 144 gdr 1.6 09:06Z 7 1977 1.00016 -1579 -188 -25 247 62.9 7.6 14 169 gdr 1.6 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:31Z 57 18 14 182 (S) 1242 - 00:03Z 55 18 13 207 (SSW) 1257 - 00:35Z 52 19 17 189 (S) 1407 - 01:06Z 50 19 7 143 (SE) 1365 - 01:38Z 47 20 12 134 (SE) 1467 - partly cloudy 02:10Z 46 19 16 140 (SE) 1418 - 02:44Z 46 18 14 142 (SE) 1371 - 03:14Z 46 18 15 135 (SE) 1382 - 03:45Z 47 17 15 168 (SSE) 1309 - 04:15Z 47 17 16 147 (SSE) 1285 - 04:46Z 47 17 16 160 (SSE) 1203 - 05:17Z 47 18 16 155 (SSE) 1416 - 05:48Z 47 19 18 141 (SE) 1414 - 06:19Z 46 18 16 148 (SSE) 1446 - 06:51Z 46 21 16 153 (SSE) 1568 - 07:23Z 46 21 13 151 (SSE) 1674 - 07:53Z 45 21 15 152 (SSE) 1552 - 08:24Z 45 21 18 152 (SSE) 1724 - 08:54Z 45 21 15 157 (SSE) 1813 - 09:24Z 45 21 13 151 (SSE) 1670 - 09:54Z 45 21 13 162 (SSE) 1696 - 10:24Z 45 21 10 152 (SSE) 1798 - 10:55Z 44 21 11 159 (SSE) 1879 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:15Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 01:40Z Enclosure off. 11:00Z Enclosure on.
