Problems: --------- Ne lamp obove the 2.5m telescope laptop got burned. We replaced it (30 minutes of science time was lost). ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Swing shift: ----------- Assuming temperatures will be closer to 50 F rather than 55F, I adjusted the spectro focus a bit. Details are at the end of the log. The rest of afternoon checkout was without problems. Residents of Hummopolis fed. I (Jurek) bet that Steph want's to convert me here from C to F ;))). Night: ------ 02:42Z Cart 2, plt 2112 on the telescope. There was a star on GTF but the guider couldn't guess the rotator offset (the telescope was pointing near the zenith), so we went to fk5, then back and found more stars in fibers. That let us figure out what should be the rotator offset (we applied twice as big offset as the guider required) and the rest of the stars showed in the fibers. Plate done. 04:49Z cart 3, plt 2196 on the telescope. SOGTF. The seeing behaves badly, varying from 1.3" - 2.3". 3.5m seeing is very bad (2.8") and DIMM seeing plot has some bumps too, but they are not that bad as we see them on 2.5m telescope. Bad seeing made almost imposible proper judgment on the exposure time. We shortened the last exposure integration down to about 25 minutes since we didn't know if will make it with the current exposure time (which was 30 minutes). Then we started another 15 minutes exposure, but when we saw that sos got enough sginal on our 25 minutes exposure to declare it done we aborted the 15 miuntes one and changed the cartridge. Plate done. 06:08Z cart 4, plt 1653 GSOGTF. 06:18Z precalib exposure failed due to the ne lamp failure. We called Wendel to ask him were these lamps are kept, then replaced the one above the laptop (or counterweight 3). 30 minutes science time lost. We went back to the field and done the plate without any problems. 07:44Z cart 8 plt. 1852 SOGTF. Plenty of moths on the plate - we need something to blow them away! Plate done. 08:53Z cart 1 plt. 2210 SOGTF. We've got only one exposure on this plate before it expiried. SOS got trouble reducing the b1 flat (33129). We did postcalib just to be sure that it wasn't the flat file problem, then we swap cartridges. Exsposures were rereduced and all looks fine. 09:31Z cart 9 plt 2184 SOGTF. SEGUE bright.
