APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Tuesday March 21, 2006 (MJD 53816) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: John Barentine Night: Dan Long Kaike an Visitor: skent@fnal.gov ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Finished five plates: 2057, 2218, 2231, 2219, 1843. Problems: -LogTool: (1) log is owned by observer and not group writeable, had to manually change its property. (2) when focus and offset buttons are pressed we see words "disconnected" (in the focus section) and "imager" (in offset section) instead of cartridge and plate numbers. Kaike check back to earlier logs, and found that these bottons never work since March dark run. But they worked during March ET run. Can somebody (Eric?) check on this and fix it so that we do not need to manually write cartridge and plate numbers. Thanks! ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon --------- DA node ad2 was dead this afternoon when I began checkout. Watcher error: no response (not responding: 2006-03-21 21:58:38Z) and the output from a iccSoundOff: ICC ad2 is not available ( Bad ICC) There were also a bunch of errors in the imager server window on monx-3 to the same effect. I rebooted the astrometrics crate. That brought ad2 back to life. A watcher voltage error of "vt+" occured on CCD15 at about 22:30Z. No further issues or problems. Spectro focus number are right where one would think to look for them -- Problems section. Night: After John released the log, nobody could write on it. John log back in as observer and change the file property to group writeable, then Kaike can write the log. 02:25Z cart 1, plt 2057 (Seque) FK5 is used to find field. seeing got worse and worse, greater than 3.0". Seeing measurements from DIMM is greater than 4.5" while 2.5m says about 2.0. Is some wrong with the DIMM or just because wind (wind speed is about 25 mph at the moment). plate DONE with a total exposure time of 6900s. 03:50Z ccd 55 vs+ glitches occur, and bias frames look normal. The same as last night. it came back at 04:45z, and 11:45Z. 05:15Z ccd 15 vt+ glitche occur. no error message just red bottom on the watcher. 04:45Z cart 5, plt 2218. Chunk. Stars on GTF. Seeing got better, at 1.5". plate is DONE with a total exposure time of 3500s. 07:30Z cart 6, plt 2219 (chunk). Stars on GTF. Thick clouds came in. Move pistons up 2000 because the tempurature are warmer than predicated. The second exposure was aborted. The third exposure was declared bad. The plate is DONE with a total exposure time of 3900s for three valid exposures. 10:02Z cart 9, plt 1843 (chunk). FK5 used for guiding stars. Skies improved, became clear, and seeing got better. So we collected more signals than we expected. By the time we finshed this plate, there was 20 min before twilight, and another late plate would expire within 10 min. So, we decided to acquiring extra photons on this plate in stead of going to another plate. Plate DONE.
