APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Wednesday August 16, 2006 (MJD 53964) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Kaike Pan Night: Dan Long Howard Brewington Support: Steph Snedden French Leger Craig Loomis ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- More tests with the sparse-plugged plate. ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Rain, clouds and high humidity kept us closed all night, but we completed more sparse-plugged plate tests. See log. For most of the night, Watcher reported sp1 as ln2_empty, yet the cc tcheck command indicated no problem; see log. The bellows pressure was a little high tonight at 45-psi. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- PT is not in function. Red camera of SP1 is been taken off and swapped red camera of SP2 to there and more tests with the sparse-plugged plate will be done tonight. New Fiducial table is been checked in. Night: ------ We completed more sparse-plugged plate tests tonight with cartridge 4 mounted. And, a sequence of flats and arcs were taken and mailed to Craig as detailed below by Dan. Another night, another configuration. Tonight r2 was taken off sp2 and put on sp1 in place of r1. r2 frames are blank because r1 was not put on sp2. Note that the saddlebags were not swapped, so r1's saddlebag was reading r2 and r2's saddlebag was reading the ether. The images taken with r2 on sp1 look almost identical to those taken last night with r2 on sp2. This would seem to be pretty solid evidence that the weird scattering is indeed in r1. Here are tonight's frames. 40421 bias 40422 10s flat 40423 50s flat 40424 200s flat 40425 bias 40426 bias 40427 40s arc 40428 180s arc Several fits files were then inspected and compared. Frame 40427, from tonight, was with r2 in r1's spot on sp1. Frame 40411, from last night's tests, was with r2 in its normal location. Frame 40411, also from last night, was with an inverted r1 in its normal location on sp1. There was a small difference in bias levels between left and right amplifiers on the two r2 frames presumably because it was being run with its own saddlebag last night and r1's tonight. Otherwise the stretch is the same in all frames. 03:30Z We got a Watcher Critical Error that stated sp1's ln2 was empty; however, a tcheck was okay. See below: sp1> cc 1 tcheck CAMERA 1 LN2 TEMP NOMINAL 77 K MEASURED 92 K CCD TEMP DAC SET AT 115 = -0.52 V = -90 C MEASURED -92 C sp1> cc 4 tcheck CAMERA 4 LN2 TEMP NOMINAL 77 K MEASURED 98 K CCD TEMP DAC SET AT 115 = -0.52 V = -90 C MEASURED -91 C endNight finished and was happy. Cart 05 was left on the cart just inside the 2.5-meter enclosure. Mish Watcher messages are in the Problems section. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40419, plate -9999 ------- 01:40 40419 0.0 bias 01:43 40421 0.0 bias 01:50 40422 10.0 flat 01:54 40423 50.0 flat 02:00 40424 200.0 flat 02:06 40425 0.0 bias 02:08 40426 0.0 bias 02:13 40427 40.0 arc 02:19 40428 180.0 arc ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:36Z 54 54 2 282 (WNW) 20638 - 01:08Z 53 53 6 13 (NNE) 371 - 01:40Z 50 49 16 59 (ENE) 366 - 02:12Z 51 50 17 57 (ENE) 293 - 02:16Z 52 49 18 64 (ENE) 236 - 02:45Z 52 48 13 64 (ENE) 150 - 03:17Z 51 50 16 52 (NE) 182 - 03:49Z 50 50 0 314 (NW) 1093 - 04:21Z 49 49 0 26 (NNE) 225 - 04:53Z 51 48 13 13 (NNE) 233 - 05:26Z 52 47 24 36 (NE) 134 - 05:58Z 52 47 19 30 (NNE) 151 - 06:30Z 54 46 13 33 (NNE) 173 - 07:06Z 53 46 23 60 (ENE) 180 - 07:38Z 53 46 20 54 (NE) 159 - 08:10Z 53 47 24 51 (NE) 146 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- Enclosure on, doors and louvers closed, fans off.
