APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Thursday August 24, 2006 (MJD 53972) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Swing: Kaike Pan Night: Dan Long Mike Harvanek ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Finish the collimation then science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Weather kept us closed most of the night. Collimation was checked with the imager and found to be good. The new collimated primary mirror position is that of mechanical collimation (all setmir values = 0). The nominal mirror positions were reset. Both spectro and imager instrument blocks were adjusted to zero out the new rotator offset (0.05 degrees). Skippy does not work on stripe 294 because the known object catalog does not exist. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: ---------- Dismounted the engcam (Dan put it back to it usually stoage place) and mounted cartridge 5 to check the focus. Sp1 was moved by -3600 to get in focus. Spectro frames were not transferred but watcher did not caught this and murmur said gangs and frames were transferring while nothing really happen. the first "teamster 60 spectro -force" did not work out, the second one started the file transfer. Night: ------ Threatening clouds, rain and high humidity delayed opening until 07:50Z. We immediately proceeded to check the collimation with the imager. Donuts taken at +/- 300 units from focus looked evenly illuminated and so we declared the collimation good (i.e., we did not change the mirror position from the mechanically collimated position that was established last night as the preliminary engcam collimation position). Donut info is as follows: Run 6271 frame 33 in focus (-290) frame 45 -300 (-590) frame 54 +300 (+10) After the collimation check, it was photometric with no moon and good seeing so we tried to do some SEGUE imaging of 1188 S. The first run (6272) was aborted because the rotator offset that was applied for the collimation run was not "sticky" - apparently "offsetRotator" in iop is not sticky and has to be reissued after each slew. The 2nd run was aborted due to clouds. With the appearance of clouds we decided to switch to supernova imaging. However, this SN run (6274) was quickly aborted as well due to increasing clouds. With time running short we decided to devote the remainder of the night to engineering. The nominal mirror values were reset and then another engineering run was performed to adjust the instrument blocks to zero out the new rotator offset (0.05 degrees). Both the spectro and imager instrument blocks were changed. There was an alt abort (09:34:00Z) at the beginning of this engineering run (6275). Another engineering run (6276) was performed to check the correctness of the edited instrument blocks. Note that skippy does not work on stripe 294 because the known object catalog does not exist. We couldn't get ltmatch to work either so, for the moment, the correctness of the new instrument blocks has not yet been verified. endNight rejoiced. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6270 23:34Z 23:52Z 100 O 35.85 40.39 43 ignore doghouse 6271 08:05Z 08:41Z 82 N 160.41 169.21 73 engineering collim. donuts 6272 08:44Z 08:49Z 1188 S 167.24 168.46 22 ignore rotator position off 6273 08:50Z 08:59Z 1188 S 168.63 170.91 29 ignore clouds 6274 09:01Z 09:08Z 82 N -152.79 -151.11 25 ignore clouds 6275 09:31Z 10:15Z 82 N -142.61 -140.79 89 engineering inst block 6276 10:16Z 10:33Z 294 N -140.64 -136.38 43 engineering inst block ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6271 8 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6271 14 4 55 -0.400 0.114 -0.500 0.111 0.05174 187 57 6271 59 4 37 -1.000 0.150 -0.900 0.131 0.00395 187 57 6272 7 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6272 10 2 24 -2.200 0.152 -0.800 0.153 0.05904 186 63 6473 10 2 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6473 10 2 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6273 10 2 28 -2.100 0.188 -0.700 0.140 0.00687 188 61 6273 17 4 67 -2.100 0.456 -1.000 0.292 0.00626 189 60 6274 13 4 41 -2.400 0.126 -0.500 0.180 0.00286 134 47 6274 13 3 34 -2.400 0.122 -0.600 0.157 0.00269 134 47 6275 15 2 16 -2.600 0.119 -0.700 0.134 0.05441 132 46 6275 21 4 21 -3.200 0.620 -1.300 1.117 0.04629 132 46 6275 25 2 21 -2.600 0.097 -1.100 0.116 0.00325 132 46 6275 56 2 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6275 58 3 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6276 11 1 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 6276 14 4 0 0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 -0.00000 0 0 ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6275 30 1 46 48 18 0.226 0.114 0.514 0.195 -0.00173 6275 30 1 46 48 22 -0.057 0.101 0.761 0.153 -0.00256 6275 30 1 46 48 19 0.059 0.138 0.583 0.221 -0.00196 6275 30 1 46 48 14 -0.456 0.136 0.564 0.261 -0.00190 6275 30 1 46 48 14 -0.852 0.229 0.759 0.263 -0.00255 ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): YES QA Procedures Done (y/n): N/A UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ----- sequence 40470, plate -9999 ------- 00:23 40470 0.0 bias 00:43 40471 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40472, plate 2172 ------- 00:48 40472 10.0 flat 00:51 40473 2.0 arc 00:53 40474 2.1 arc 00:56 40475 2.1 arc ----- sequence 40476, plate -9999 ------- 01:14 40476 0.0 bias 01:22 40477 0.0 bias ----- sequence 40478, plate 2172 ------- 01:34 40478 2.1 arc 01:36 40479 2.1 arc ----- sequence 40480, plate -9999 ------- 02:27 40480 0.0 bias ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 08:23Z imager -6.70 -0.0003 57.18 0.0011 84.19 0.0000 1.000000 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== DATA TAPE SUMMARY ===--- Goes: JL Stays: JL ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 08:23Z imager 1.00000 0 -395 -290 -7 57.2 14.4 6 275 i'23 0.84" ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 23:32Z 68 47 8 265 (W) 439 - 00:03Z 65 45 11 252 (WSW) 485 - 00:34Z 65 48 10 264 (W) 524 - 01:05Z 62 49 8 269 (W) 556 - 01:35Z 59 49 7 267 (W) 538 - 02:06Z 60 49 8 266 (W) 586 - mostly cloudy 02:52Z 59 49 6 263 (W) 603 - mostly cloudy 03:24Z 59 49 8 228 (SW) 649 - partly cloudy 03:56Z 59 47 11 220 (SW) 623 - mostly cloudy 04:28Z 59 47 15 220 (SW) 610 - mostly cloudy 05:00Z 59 48 7 233 (SW) 638 - mostly cloudy 05:32Z 58 49 5 265 (W) 583 - mostly cloudy 06:05Z 57 50 9 262 (W) 624 - partly cloudy 06:37Z 57 52 3 254 (WSW) 650 - partly cloudy 07:09Z 57 51 6 278 (W) 606 - clear 07:41Z 58 51 7 268 (W) 551 - clear 08:13Z 58 50 6 269 (W) 553 - clear 08:43Z 58 50 8 276 (W) 552 - clear 09:13Z 57 49 8 291 (WNW) 540 - mostly cloudy 09:46Z 57 49 10 272 (W) 537 - partly cloudy 10:18Z 57 49 7 274 (W) 506 - mostly cloudy 10:50Z 56 48 8 268 (W) 471 - partly cloudy ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 01:10Z Enclosure doors opened, fans and blowers on, louvers opened. 07:50Z Enclosure off. 10:40Z Enclosure on, doors closed, fans and blowers off, louvers closed.
