APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY SDSS 2.5M OBSERVING LOG Sunday January 28, 2007 (MJD 54129) ---=== OBSERVING TEAM ===--- Audrey Simmons Steph Snedden Justin Crepp (UF) Scott Fleming (UF) French Leger (phone support) ---=== OBSERVING PLAN ===--- Science! ---=== OBSERVING SUMMARY ===--- Wendell, the outside manipulator arm logic controller has been bypassed (switch moved from run to stop). There appears to be a problem with the controller that you will be assked to look into. Symptoms are in the problems section. ---=== OBSERVING LOG ===--- Afternoon: --------- No problems during afternoon checkout, except that the alt and rot axes aborted midway through a test slew, and we had a high current warning for the rotator. The problem did not recur. Ambient temperatures were not that cold - about 0C. Night: ----- 01:22Z - Cartridge 1, ET plate 8033 One 50 minute exposure in heavy cloud. We could see the guide stars, but barely. 02:26Z - Cartridge 2, ET plate 8018 One 50 minute exposure in cloud. 02:30Z - Manipulator arm problem (see problems section) 03:35Z - Cartridge 6, ET Plate 8016 One 50 minute exposure in cloud. 04:42Z - Cartridge 9, ET Plate 8017 One 50 minute exposure in cloud. 05:41Z - Cartridge 3, ET Plate 8024 50 minute exposures in thick clouds. Data not useful We wait and wait and wait for the weather to improve. ---=== IMAGING RUN SUMMARY ===--- Run Time Stripe Lambda Last Flavor Comments Start End Begin End Frame ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== IMAGING RUN DETAILS ===--- ---=== SKIPPY RESULTS ===--- Run Frame nFrames stars muErr muRms nuErr nuRms rot az el --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---=== LTMATCH RESULTS ===--- Run Field nFields alt az nGood rowMean rowSig colMean colSig rot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---=== SPECTROSCOPY DATA SUMMARY ===--- Summary Checked (y/n): QA Procedures Done (y/n): UT Exp Time flavor comment (S/N)^2 totals ========================================== b1 r1 b2 r2 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE I ===--- Time Instrument Az Alt Rot Scale pos offset pos offset pos offset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:21Z 1 8033 -31.91 -0.0002 68.07 0.0053 152.78 0.0225 0.999940 02:29Z 2 8018 115.98 0.0019 54.72 0.0024 -90.90 -0.0098 1.000120 04:40Z 9 8017 37.78 0.0016 56.96 0.0022 211.14 0.0086 1.000060 05:48Z 3 8024 80.24 0.0006 48.64 0.0021 240.67 -0.0107 1.000210 ---=== TELESCOPE OFFSETS AND SCALE II ===--- ---=== FOCUS LOG ===--- setmir piston Temp Wind Time Inst scale M1 M2 Foc Az Alt (C) MPH Dir filt fwhm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 01:21Z 1 8033 0.99994 593 1825 200 -32 68.1 -1.2 -9999 -9999 - 1.2 02:29Z 2 8018 1.00012 -1185 386 200 116 54.7 -1.2 -9999 -9999 - 1.6 04:40Z 9 8017 1.00006 -593 795 125 38 57.0 -0.2 -9999 -9999 - 1.6 05:46Z 3 8024 1.00016 -1580 4 125 81 48.2 -0.4 -9999 -9999 - 1.5 ---=== WEATHER LOG ===--- Wind Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust DIMM Sky 00:24Z 30 11 -9999 -9999 (N) 385 - mostly cloudy 00:56Z 29 1 -9999 -9999 (N) 444 - ' 01:26Z 29 0 -9999 -9999 (N) 428 - ' 01:58Z 29 1 -9999 -9999 (N) 427 - ' 02:28Z 29 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 438 - ' 02:59Z 27 3 -9999 -9999 (N) 466 - ' 03:29Z 29 -3 -9999 -9999 (N) 512 - ' 03:59Z 29 2 -9999 -9999 (N) 451 - ' 04:30Z 31 -15 -9999 -9999 (N) 370 - ' 05:01Z 31 -7 -9999 -9999 (N) 356 - ' 05:31Z 31 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 357 - ' 06:01Z 31 -5 -9999 -9999 (N) 486 - 06:31Z 30 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 516 - 07:01Z 30 -1 -9999 -9999 (N) 442 - 07:32Z 31 8 -9999 -9999 (N) 534 - 08:02Z 31 -2 -9999 -9999 (N) 830 - 08:32Z 31 -2 -9999 -9999 (N) 727 - 09:02Z 31 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 608 - 09:32Z 31 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 604 - 10:02Z 30 0 -9999 -9999 (N) 502 - 10:32Z 30 -4 -9999 -9999 (N) 388 - 11:02Z 30 -5 -9999 -9999 (N) 348 - 11:33Z 30 -1 -9999 -9999 (N) 368 - ---=== TELESCOPE STATUS ===--- 00:20Z - Started enclosure ventilation 00:34Z - Opened enclosure ---=== SOFTWARE USED ===--- IOP/SOP: v4_29_0 Watcher: v2_35_0 MCP: v6_3_2 TPM: tpm_v3_5_0 AstroDa: v15_13 TCC: TCC 2.7.2.1 August 6 2004 sdssProcedures: SoS: v5_1_8 hoggPT: v1_6_9 plate-mapper: v4_3_1 ---=== MIRROR NUMBERS ===--- PRIMARY: -------- Scale: 1.000000 MIGS TONIGHT NOMINAL Axial A 24.6780 24.6730 Axial B 26.2640 26.2680 Axial C 27.9340 27.9320 Trans D 13.5860 13.5820 Lateral E 9.9314 9.9695 Lateral F 11.5316 11.5443 GALILS Commanded: 4600. -2000. 2650. -9300. -9800. -9800. It stopped at the "three green leds" level. After searching for the bypass switch described on the inside of the door to the arm electronics box, we talked to French, then got a stepladder and found the switch. We definitely needed the stepladder to see it. It is currently in the "stop" position.
